Rooms Very Tired & Smelly

Food was really good, Conference Suite Facilties
On arrival, all rooms weren't ready so had to wait for one of them. We were given rooms on top floor which smelled musty and damp. The windows were covered in mould. Also, the wooden block floor in the bathroom was extremely mouldy. These rooms should NOT be rented out at all. We complained about both rooms and we're moved immediately to rooms with only slightly better in decor but fortunately no mould or musty smells. However, it did back onto the railway line so was often work up by the sound and vibrations of trains that were just a stones throw away. The hotel seem to throw all of their income at the reception area and conference facilities yet neglect those who decide to stay with them after the event. Only other plus side was that the food was good. Would I stay there again? Definitely not. I would rather stay at a Travel Lodge. At least they're clean!

Nice old building, clean, but very loud

interesting architecture
I got in late and had to leave the next morning, so I didn't get to sample the breakfast or look around further than the lobby and my room. Bu room was huge and clean, but in a very odd place next to their conference room and the bug arched windows were only single pane, so I could hear every shout, every car and every single train pass outside. Needless to say I didn't sleep very much.

Blackwell review at palacehotel

location , comfort, staff
good stay good room , staff very attentive to all our needs , we were in the New area which unfortunetly is still being refurbished so lifts were out of order to our side of the building - also Monday morning site work began early , have stayed 8 times previously at the palace and have always enjoyed stay this time we took our children who were equally over joyed with the hotel . hopefully pricing will decrease for our next stay as 1 sunday night was quite expensive at £179 pound whereas previously myself and wife have stayed for £80 incl of breakfast . will be visiting again .

Solo short stay.

Large rooms, convenient location, good cleanliness
Pleasant, not far from the city centre and transport links. Plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants near by. Large rooms with all the amenities you need and a very comfortable bed.

Old hotel with lots of feature

central location, reasonable room rate, helpful receptionist
We first checked into the hotel at 6pm and was given room 158. We were a bit surprise to find that the room was located directly next to the tram/rail line. We spent a short 15 minutes in the room and we have heard 3 trains passing us. It wasn't hard to guess that this will continue probably till late at night and possibly with overnight train every so often during the night. The rest of the feature in this particular room was nothing remarkable but it wasn't bad in anyway. We requested for a room change since we didn't feel that the room is appropriate for housing guest and we were given an upgrade to the Excalibur suite. This room has everything to rave about it. It's huge spacious, comfortable and beautiful. The time flow during our stay seemed prolonged and we had the most comfortable sleep we ever had during our 2 weeks travel in the UK. The shower/bath decor is simple yet elegant and functional at the same. I couldn't have been more please. I probably would Go straight for the Excalibur suite for my next trip rather than going for a standard double.
