Location, location, location
The hotel is undergoing refurbishment. The rooms have been reclassified, and what was a standard room is now classed as superior, so you pay more money for less room. Our room was small, noisy, very dusty, poorly ventilated, had no storage for our clothes beyond a few hangers, and the TV was located on a wall which made it impossible to view from the bed. It felt cramped, and with our belongings scattered all over the floor, it hardly felt "superior". We had stayed there the previous year, and the room we were allocated was excellent, but this felt like a huge disappointment in comparison. The only positives were the location of the hotel and the bathroom had been refurbished, however, this was not sufficient to counterbalance the poor bedroom quality and disappointment we felt, considering the cost of the room per night

Long Weekend

Best things were location, staff and amenities
Lovely weekend and hotel ideal location as travelled up by train. Staff really pleasant and helpful. Amenities great. Only small thing which didn't spoil weekend as rest made up for this, was that our room was in a hotel wing very close to railway station so a lot of noise throughout night. But still stress this is a great place to stay and very friendly. Will def revisit.

Much better than expected

Location, Friendly Staff, Great Room
Our stay in the garden wing was much better than anticipated. The staff were friendly and helpful. Location to The Shambles and The Minster was an easy walk away and the swimming pool at the Hotel was another reason for booking this hotel which didn't disappoint. The breakfast was excellent.

not ready for us

when we arrived for check in our room was not ready so we were allocated another room, after unpacking decided to have a shower only to find there was no hot water after informing reception we had to be moved to another room.then our key would not open the door on one occaision so thet was another trip to reception.staff were brilliant and apologetic that all these things were happening to us and offered us £25 refund which we spent in the bar.we would book this hotel again if only for the location, everything else was ok,all the problems we had could have been avoided

wouldn't stay there again

restaurant, parking and cant think of another.
room was very basic, not luxurious at all. I had to ask for the iron in the room to be replaced as the one that was in the room was in a very dangerous condition with bare wires showing in the flex! Our room overlooked a very busy and noisy main road next to the railway station so not a lot of sleep was had. Will not without a shadow of a doubt stay here again.

Royal York Hotel

location,external appearance ,dining.
Our room was on the forth floor, where no hot water can rise not good. windows old and windy and next to train station. The spa was old and grotty and unclean...not a good standard.

In the heart of the city

Location convenience experience
Altogether it was pretty good. The large gardens are good for relaxation. Bar service was pretty poor though even with 3 people in attendance. Breakfast was more than ample with a very good choice. Would return again. Slight problems with the lifts on arrival but that was soon put right.
