Overrated, budget hotel would be more worth

The bed, early check in
First i booked the hotel, when i reached, staff told me they upgraded my room to the attic (which i didnt want because it had no windows, otherwise i would have booked it.) When we entered the room, the aircon was making loud sounds which we tried to get over it but its really that loud. So we tried calling the reception, only to realise the phone is spoilt. When we managed to call, the receptionist told us the aircon is abot noisy if we dont mind (im still not sure how to react to that except laughing it off because its apparent that the aircon was way too noisy) So when we requested for a change of room, i had to top up additional amount for a sultan suite which makes no sense because when i booked the standard room on agoda since it was available. Now i have to top up for something which i did not intend to have in the first place. And when we reached the suite, it was just like a budget hotelroom on the ground floor. except the budget hotel probably had a better toilet? Never thought i would say this, but its really not that worth it for the price we are paying. For someone who is willing to look past the flaws of every other hotels, this was pretty much a bad experience for me.

Boutique hotel, nice ambiance, very noisy

architecture, friendly reception staff
I booked a standard double after carefully reading the reviews on here and looking at pictures. I noted in the comments when booking that I needed step-free access to the bed. The room we are first shown met these criteria, but required one of us to climb over the other to get into bed as the bed was pushed against the wall with access only from one side. No way with my broken ankle could I do that climbing and I was terrified of my husband hurting me if he did so. So they found us a room with the bed in the centre of the room. I think it might have been a better room than the standard double, as it was a nice room and I liked it. Bigger bed, decent bathroom and amenities. No real window (it looked onto an internal courtyard); wifi worked in the room (not in the restaurant). Very powerful aircon. All was going well until about 9pm when the music started. It turned out there is some bar on the 2nd floor of the adjacent building which plays loud (incredibly loud, like, unable to have a conversation without shouting loud) music for hours. So my husband did not sleep until the early hours when it finally ended. Thus I would avoid this hotel if you go to bed at a sensible time and/or are light sleepers. Breakfast was odd - pretty short of Western options. But restaurant was again in a nice room and I found enough to eat to keep me going, but it was not that easy. Probably would not return because of the noise - without that I would have recommended it, but they need to install sound-proofing I think.

Kind and accomodating front desk staff

Staff, bathroom, pillows
My small toddler daughter and I checked in and the front desk staff asked if we would like to be transferred to a room with a bath. This room was easy to push a pram with a sleeping baby in and out of after a long day. Great cafe accommodating kids just behind and easily accessible via taxi, public transport or on foot.

Perfect location near malay heritage area

Location, cheap local foods nearby and worth money spend
Location wise is good, near to mrt station, cheap local foods, bugis junction, hipster area and malay heritage area. The room a little bit small than expected but conformable. Perhaps the selection of buffet breakfast should be varied to include some local foods expecially the name of the hotel itself is " the sultan".For the price that I paid, it's worth it.

The sultan

The hotel design, the cleanliness, the staff
The noise of the bar in the hotel was too much. I don't advise anyone to take rooms close to the bar.

Sleeping at the Sulton

Clean room, nice shower, good bed
We liked the Sulton but the room smelled of cigarette smoke which was the only draw back. Liked, the breakfast with eggs cooked to order.
