Great personal service

Value for money, attentive staff, free coffee
The place is a little far from Malioboro Street but near Tirtodipuran, Prawirotaman and Parangtritis Streets where you can find lots of great restaurants. You can use their bikes to go around the city free of charge. You can also book a Borobudur and Prambanan tour with them upon check-in. We were attended by Jek during the duration of our stay who was great and was very accommodating. Stayed first week of January, 2016.

Nice, friedly homestay

the location is perfect and with the bicycles (for free) it is easy to explore the city; the breakfast (local food, cooked fresh) was very good; tea/coffee/water for free the whole day
Our stay was very nice, we stayed 3 nights at the homestay. The staff is very friendly and show a great effort to make the stay pleasant, but the lack of english made it a bit difficult sometimes. The breakfast was always fresh cooked local food and very delicious. A minus was that there was no cleaning of the room while the stay. We would stay there again!

Basic, comfortable place away from home

Cheap rates, delicious breakfast and helpful staff
First we received a room upstairs with broken tv remote, they moved us to ground floor. The room was small for extra bed but we didn't mind, bathroom was clean, breakfast and staff help were outstanding. It's distance from tourist attraction but it feels like home away from home as it's located in housing area.

Room next to the lobby sucks

Nice staff, decent location, nice neighbourhood
The room next to the front check in is terrible, make sure you request not to have this room. I was a bit disappointed with the stay overall, you could hear people cooking and talking in the check-in/kitchen area and you didnt really have privacy because you had to walk through the check-in area to get to the room. I think the other rooms would be fine, but that room really sucks. I would make sure to request a room with a separate entrance from the check-in area.

Staff Food Room
Very friendly and helpful staff. Made us feel right at home. Our room was a nice size, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was different everyday and because I am vegetarian, they put themselves out and made me a meal with no meat. Tea and coffee where there for the taking for free as was nice cold water from a cooler.

Nice place!

Friendly staff, nice breakfast, other travelers
The Wayang is a nice place and great for travelers on a budget. It's well located, nearby Jalan Tirtodipuran (sp), which is a street with several nice restaurants and bars, and it's tucked away from any main road, so noise is not an issue. The rooms are ok, but not superb -- the water pressure for the shower comes and goes and water is not hot, and the staff are a little bit difficult to communicate with, as English is not their first language. Breakfast in the morning is great, the staff rents out scooters on behalf of a nearby business (and at a good rate!), and they're willing to arrange laundry service, and taxi cabs as well, which was great! All in all, I recommend the Wayang as a good budget option.

Best experience in Yogyakarta

Clean, Quiet, and Friendly Staff
Wayang Homestay is the best option to stay in when in Yogyakarta. It is located in a quiet village, 10-minute ride from the busy streets of Malioboro. The rooms are comfortable and the staff are friendly and approachable. Truly value for money.

great homestay, very friendly staff

The room was simple but great and very clean. They have bycicles guests can take for free. The staff is really friendly and helpful, they made us feel like home!
We really enjoyed our stay at Wayang Homestay. The location is quiet but not far from the restaurants and sights, and it was always possible to take a bycicle and expore the city. Most importantly, the staff was really great! We would definitely come back to stay at Wayang when we're in Yogya!
