Lovely place
There is not that much going on at Koh Yao Yai, but at least you can rent kayaks and motorcycle at the hotel. The make pic ups from the ferry and are in general very friendly and helpful. We had a bungalow with fan (including breakfast) and that was quite cheap. It was all clean and no animals at all in our bungalow even though there isn't a roof above the shower (there were only some lonely mosquitos). The breakfast wasn't that special but ok. There were some other fine restaurants nearby.

Satisfactorily Good
This island has very little going on. In saying that my travel partner and I were happy with this as we were looking for quiet and relaxation. Rooms are clean consisting of a bed and bedside table, bathroom and outdoor shower. Make sure you turn the hot water system to high if you want a hot shower. No mini bar etc in room so I would suggest taking some provisions for snacks, drinks etc. Scooter hire at the resort for 350 baht per day. Transfer to and from the arrival pier (approximately 7 kms away) very pricey a 300 baht per person each way). Little option for the restaurants close by so limited to resort. Menu is quite small and we were looking for other options after a couple of days. Found a nice little place 350 metres up the road for dinner on the last night. Food at Thiwson was pretty good. Breakfast okay. You get to choose your eggs and they are cooked fresh. Good coffee with real milk. Service definitely not as attentive as mainland. If ordering a second drink would have to go and find someone. Many cocktails not available, missed my frosty beer glass. Couldn't get the TV working and asked about it but noone came to the room to sort. Some staff friendly, some not so much. Appears to be a family run business. Only activity was some canoes sitting on the beach. Beachfront is more like an embankment with a retaining wall. You can dive straight into the ocean from it when it's high tide. Overall I enjoyed my stay as I was looking for peace and quiet. If you are looking for an activity filled stay it will not happen here. I wouldn't not recommend for families with children. They will be crying bored after a day,

Average
We specified a room with a double bed but was given one with two singles.... quite disappointed, as there were "fully booked" we were not able to get a room change. Aircon was not working very well, took a long time to cool the room and even when at it's optimal, it wasn't very conducive.

very good swimming pool and view!
This was the best hotel we stayed during our holidays and this was the one we paid less (although our room did not have A/C). The view from the pool is magnificent, the ambiance in the restaurant is awesome, the open air bathroom is absolutely romantic, everything was pretty good! What we did not like so much was that the few beaches Koh Yao Yai has, are slightly polluted/dirty already. The island is still very calm, pristine, far from civilization and has nothing much to do. We rented a motorbike and 1 day was enough to go to every 'corner' of this super quiet island.

An extremely relaxing place to stay
A great place to stay if you want to relax for a bit, and recharge yourself for a few days! The island is very quiet, but hire a moped and go out and explore. There are some great little beaches to stop at. Tip: Find 'The White House' restaurant on the other side of the island, amazing food and a great view.

Lovely resort on a lovely, traditional island
Location, tradition and restuarant
It was a good stay all in all. Very friendly staff, and a very good restaurant. Both pools had great views, the rooms were really nice and considering where you were, had good facilities. None of the TV channels worked on the Cable TV, though, and the WiFi was poor - but you're on an isolated island near enough in a jungle, so this is understandable. Food and drink was reasonably priced - and the view looking out from the restaurant in the day was stunning. Air con in rooms not great as doesn't circulate enough. Not ideal for those not a fan of creepy crawlies and critters as Deluxe Hilltop Bungalows are surrounded and sometimes filled with them. Finally not sure on the price we were charged to get to Krabi, but an efficient service nonetheless. Ideal place to go and switch off for a couple of days, as location very isolated.
