Beautiful hotel ... but

location, rooms, spaciousness of public areas
It was very pleasant: our room had a verandah with table and chairs in the sun and lots of room inside. But the internet wouldn't work. We asked for the three days we were there and were assured someone was coming to fix it but nothing happened. Not quite good enough for a 4 star hotel.

Pleasant & relaxing

Good food, nice area,
We were not happy when we had to walk from the entrance nearest to our room round to the main entrance - over 100 metres - in rain because the side door was locked at 8.30pm. Why aren't guests given keys to that door? Also the bathroom is large but very poorly fitted out - no cupboards, drawers or shelves for storing toiletries so they had to sit on the floor as there is not enough room for them on the sink area.

Appalling hotel - calls itself a resort is not

The hotel looks OK and is reasonably well apointed but the appearance is only a veneer. The room we stayed in was not airconditioned and had a reasonably sized bathroom but a tiny corner shower. To small to have a proper shower. The restaurant has had bad reviews but there was little else on offer in St Helens on New Year's Day. It looked good and had a nice view out onto the bay, but the meals were attrocious. My partner ordered a prawn salad which came with no finger bowl and no bowl bowl to put the shells when she had shelled and de-veined the prawns. The salad was light on and featured the end (stalk) of the iceberg lettuce. When we mentioned the deficiencies to the wait staff they did not respond and when my partner asked to see the head waiter or waitress, neither were forthcoming. My linguini seafood was tasteless and the sauce appeared to have been made from a jar of pasata sauce from the supermarket with no herbs. They charged us full price of course. The checkout clerk was not very interested when I told him of my disappointment with the meal and the overall stay. I filled out an evaluation feedback form but was not confident that it would have got past the front desk rubbish bin. So all in all, don't stay here. We couldn't believe it was as bad as the reviews indicated - but it was!

Reception staff were great!

Close to town
We were somewhat disappointed with this hotel. It felt a bit like a cavernous old peoples home and the room was freezing when we arrived. We went to the bar(hours 10am to late according to the in-room info) to get a drink late in the afternoon and there were no staff to be found! We stood around for a while then gave up. We were planning on having dinner there but went elsewhere instead. The bathroom was huge with a tiny corner shower that was hard to move around in.
