Very good
The dinner and breakfast of this hotel were excellent! And the hotel is near the station. The staff is nice and warmheart. But if you want to walk to the hotel from the station with heavy laggage, it's exhausted for you to walk stair by stair.

Nice hotel with good service
Line Hakone @Tonosawa Station within 10mins walking along the hill path. The front door is behind a screen which is not easy to find... We near-missed it twice until a staff showed up and led us to the reception. The hotel is a house with 4 or 5 floors. We stayed at first floor, 2 Japanese style rooms, served with Japanese snacks and tea. Good dinner and breakfast, nice staff and comfy room as well as the great onsen.

cheap place with OK food
Place looks outdated. The Hot bath is not very hot and they save on energy so they do not circulate the water. It is so CHEAP that you have to BUY your own coffee in the morning. NOT WORTH IT.

Great traditional Japanese experience
We stayed for one night in a traditional Japanese room with tatami mats and private onsen. The room was simple and lovely and very big for Japan. It also included yukata to wear which were great. The big draw here though is the private onsen which was excellent and it was really nice to not have to share with other people, particularly as a couple. We were a bit worried about sleeping on tatami mats but they were really thick and comfortable and we had an excellent night's sleep. The food was traditional Japanese in large portions - it was ok, but to be honest we were expecting better from what we'd heard from other reviews. We upgraded to the gourmet package which was basically the standard package plus a large amount of sashimi, so if you're into that then you'll love it. We didn't think the fish was as fresh as other places we'd been to elsewhere in Japan though. All the drinks were free though! The staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. Basically this is all about having a traditional Japanese experience and this ryokan fulfilled that well. It was totally worth it for the private onsen alone so I'd totally recommend this place if that's what you're after.

Spacious room, friendly location and value for money
The room was big and nicer than expected. Though it required a bit of climbing, the location was very easy to locate as it was just a station away from Hakone- Yumoto station. (Tounosawa station) I did the Hakone round trip loop, then arrived and relaxed at the hotel. Food was delicious, both breakfast and dinner was splendid. Total value for money in my opinion, as my room included a private bath too!

great experience
was our first time trying this type of accomadation, was worth the extra for the private bath as this was very nice, the set meal was worth the experience. Is walking distance to the train station but is a mission with suitcases

Nice hotel but location is very average
Room size, meals, onsen
Location is a big problem - we are in our early 30s and relatively fit but the 15min trek up is painful, the street has no light at night as well. There is no shuttle bus and public bus stops at bottom of mountain. We were drenched getting back to hakone yumoto. The hotel itself is very clean with very good room size and nice breakfast. Onsen is good as well.

only way to this hotel is by other way
scenery, room and the onsen
i am 58 yrs old. i would have collapsed if i attempted to drag my big bag up the 8% slope from the train station. DO NOT TAKE THE TRAIN!! get off at Hakone-Yumoto station and take the taxi. its only 800 yen (2016). i am shocked that the hotel did not list this in the conditions. be warned!!

Interesting but not accommodating
Onsen, food, japanese room
This hotel is actually a nice Ryokan which gave us a very nice insight into the Japanese culture of dining and bathing. However it could be more accommodating to the international traveler: - English knowledge of staff is rather poor, it is extremely difficult to get proper information (e.g. on dining, day tours). - Dinner is only available upon preorder (not on the same day but day before). - Hotel is located uphill. Hotel page recommends taxi, but there is a free shuttle bus available, which is not even mentioned.
