Better than other reviews suggest

Good design And well maintained. Beautiful wooden bathtub. Quiet but interesting neighborhood.
Good. First room I was shown didn't have a bath tub which I had requested. Hiowever changed with no problems. Hotel is very close to subway station (lama temple exit A). Rooms on second floor were airy and spacious. Bed and seating a little firm but you get used to it.

Not Impressed and Will not be Back

Near to MRT, Near a nice hutong area, plenty of nice restaurants/bar around.
This hotel is overpriced and very mediocre. The room I stayed in faced the main road and it was noisy all day and all night long. The staff were a bunch of young people who were more interested in their computers than attending to you. You have to carry your heavy luggage up and down the stairs. Wifi in the room did not work, and nobody cared although they kept telling you they would look into it. The breakfast was lousy, consisting of only some bread and very 'plastic' looking sausages and hams. I did not take them at all. Do not take the water provided in the room they would charge you for it. I did not take their water bottles and they did not replace them, yet they charged me based on the number of nights I was there, it was ridiculous.

Historical Hutong style hotel,

style, price, location
This hotel was a bargain being located in the hutong area 100m from metro station and on airport bus route- ideal for travelers. However organisation and staff service was dreadful. On arrival, despite an online booking and payment I was first told there were no rooms free and I'd have to leave- without refunding me. However I had no other hotel to go to as all booked, so I waited until a room was cancelled and thankfully I could stay as the hotel was veru picturesque in traditional hutong style,. Next problem was that their english was poor and they told me the wrong room number so having unpacked and gone out, I returned to find my room occupied bu others and all my belongings left unguarded and accessible to anybody. I moved to another room, assured they would be tighter on security but I was uncomfortable. The deal includes a 'breakfast buffet' which they serve 8-10am. However I stayed two nights and both days before 9am they had run out of everything- only a banana left! The other guests complained but the staff said they didn't have enough for everybody but this clearly happens regularly and if you don't eat at 8am you will be eating very little breakfast afterwards. Great hotel with beautiful interior design but dreadful service and customer care.

Having previously stayed at this hotel I had high expectations but 18 months have had there impact on the maintenance of this hotel. Our bathroom was extremely smelly due to the drainage system and was unbearable until we used all the towels to block the drain after showering.( This was an outside room). However the other room was much nicer although the toilet became blocked towards the end of our stay - all of 2 nights.

Amazing location. Near the Hutongs

Cleanliness, Friendly Staff and has the best location
The stay was really great since the staff was very accommodating. The location of the hotel was really an advantage since it was just around 100meters away from the subway station line 2. This made going around Beijing very easy.

Helpful staff if you speak Mandarin

Location, helpful staff. Lines 2 and 5 stations are about 250m walk away. Great restaurants within 300m radius. Walkable to Ghost Street for fantastic dining options.
Be sure that Hotel assigns you the room type that you paid for. I made two bookings for different dates for a Twin Deluxe Room. For my first check-in, they assigned to me a much cheaper room type - no wonder, the room was tacky. There was no credenza near an electrical point and so I had to boil water by putting the kettle on the floor. Likewise when I needed to charge my camera battery, etc. The stools' cushions were tied with raffia strings to the stools - I suggested to the hotel owner that he should use Velcro to minimize tackiness. One of the female staff at Reception was most kind. She even lent me her public transport card which I topped-up for use on public bus in order to enjoy the 60% discount for longer bus journeys to Beijing countryside.

Twin Deluxe Room is much nicer

Location - Subway Lines 2 and 5 exits are within walking distance. Near to great dining outlets. Quaint to explore hutong although those hutongs in other parts of Hou Hai are in much better state.
For my 2nd check-in, the hotel assigned the Room Type (Deluxe Twin) that I had paid for. This was a much nicer room - even had a Jacuzzi in bathroom. Hotel décor is in dramatic red and gold. I reckon that for the price of a Deluxe Twin, the hotel could have provided coffee sticks and Chinese tea bags as a courtesy. That would have added a nice touch to the stay. Pretty churlish of the owner NOT to add such touches. Also, I didn't like the step down from bathroom - quite dangerous with wet feet and the high step in glossy black tiles. Hotel guests should take care.
