Small and Dark but I'll Stay Again
The hotel's location is convenient, and the girls who work there are very kind and helpful. However, this is also a family's home. I stayed for about a week, and sometimes I felt like an unwelcome intruder. As for the room, I personally think that the $14 room is overpriced. The room is small and dark. There are two single beds in the room, and it's impossible to move around. There is some mold in both the room and bathroom. Will I stay here again? Probably. It's central, and for a short time, it's OK.

We absolutely loved this place. Not to be missed.
Staff, staff, location, cost, room
We absolutely loved this place and whenever we are back in Hanoi we'll be booking here. There are so many great things about his hotel and the beautiful people that run it. The first night we booked the 'Basic room' which was very small and sufficient. The second night we upgraded to the next level (not balcony) but this one was perfect for us. Very spacious, clean, super comfortable bed, nice shower, great pressure, and quiet. The hotel is down small alleys and right across from a beautiful wooden temple, so it's very quite and nice. The location is super close to everything in the old Quarter. Great restaurants, shops, lake, post office, roof top bars, you name it. The cute grandma and young lady working made us a delicious breakfast. We had laundry done, they helped us organize mailing things back to the States, and by some miracle the young lady washed my day backpack and had it dry by the evening. They have a number of tours they recommend and can help with transportation and airport transfers. We didn't feel at all like they were trying to sell tours, but they would have been honest and helpful if we were interested in them. The family is beautiful and absolutely went out of their way to help us. The husband was very patient and helpful while we were checking in at 11:30pm, the wife is beautiful and such a hard worker for being due in about 2 weeks ( don't know how she's doing it), the young lady ( wish I knew her name) was so awesome and helped us with so many questions and stuff we had to do, and the cute Grandma was ever present and patient, very hard worker. We will defiantly be booking with them again.

A hidden gem in a quiet alley
View from balcony, peaceful location, friendly staff
After 5 years and 10 trips to Viet Nam it's taken me all this time to find this hotel!!! I paid a few bucks extra for the balcony room and was not disappointed. A mere 5 mins walk from the beer drenched streets to Hang Bong Street (Bong refers to cotton merchants rather than a smokers requisite). A tiny lane-way next to 38 Hang Bong walking past a multitude of coffee and spring roll shops, and just beyond the bend in the alley is a leafy, shady oasis. Hotel is opposite a small temple/pagoda. I was welcomed warmly with host having excellent mastery of english. There is no lift but thankfully I was only two floors. Hotel is older style but beautifully maintained and presented. Admittedly, bathroom was tiny but perfectly adequate as an all in one basin/shower/WC unit. Being a petite 105kg male, it was a side-way squeeze between door and basin (minor detail, but worth a mention). Bedroom was not too small but sufficiently spacious. Lockable double-doors to balcony open out to the most beautiful space, and windows with shutters on either side allow for beauty and fresh air. Whilst the view is of nothing more than the building opposite and the adjacent pagoda, it is the wood, wrought iron and greenery that frames the view that makes it special. With no windows facing from buildings opposite or either side, privacy is absolute. Yes, you can prance around in your small clothing without fear. Breakfast is not included however available at such a tiny cost as are a variety of snacks and refreshments. Hotel directory is in room (french & english). I will never stay anywhere else in when next in down-town Ha Noi

charming family-run guesthouse
staff, location, value
We stayed in a deluxe balcony room, well worth the upgrade from some of the other rooms we saw. We were on the 5th flour, with lovely views of the surrounding neighborhood. All the staff here were wonderfully friendly and helpful. They stored our extra luggage for us while we traveled to SaPa and then to Halong Bay. The location of the hotel was great, just across from a lovely temple, and nestled in a small alley filled with vendors selling street food and groceries. The old quarter, French quarter, and Hoan Kiem lake were all easily explored by foot from this hotel. As other reviewers noted, there is no elevator, so if you can't tolerate stairs, this probably isn't the right hotel for you.

Great location!
location, staff, view
Spring for the deluxe balcony room. This hotel is in a charming alley, across from a temple, in the middle of the old quarter. Room was comfortable, though the bathroom was the smallest we've encountered in southeast Asia. Water pressure was fine. Staff were helpful and friendly. Felt more like a family guesthouse than a hotel. As other reviewers noted, there is no elevator, so if you can't do stairs, ask for a room on a lower floor.
