Fantastic house with heartwarming staff

This is not a hotel; it's much, much better. The house is gorgeous and Nimal (owner) plus staff make you feel at home, literally. It's 10 min walk from beach (2 min in 3-wheeler) and nice breakfast.
The best stay we had in Sri Lanka by far. Looking forward to come back to this friendly, heart-warming and homey place. If you want to meet great Sri Lankan residents and something different than the hotels, then let Villa 201 be your home away from home while you enjoy the beautiful beaches of Bentota.

Best place of my trip in Sri Lanka only to relax.

good location, friendly staff, nice environment of the villa
I spent in Villa 201 four nights and was more than happy to find this place. For me this accommodation was worth the money. Nilan (the owner) and his nephew were friendly and helpful. The villa is only 15 minutes’ walk to Bentota beaches and 5 minutes’ walk to the centre of Aluthgama. The train and bus connections are very convenient. I did not have any problem with the padlock I felt always safe at the place, the villa has its own charm with beautiful garden and front and back terrace. It is the right place to calm down and just to relax and breathe in a very nice environment. The breakfast was delicious and sufficient, the room was clean and spacious. I welcomed the possibility to use the kitchen. If I would return to Sri Lanka I would definitely stay here one more time. At this moment I cannot find anything which could be considered as inconvenient.

For antique lovers, and not commercialised.

atmosphere, sincere staff, antique house itself
This 250 years old antique house have minimum necessities. No too much facilities and annoying services. What they have is “un-commercialised” good old warm atmosphere, I could feel they just want to maintain this simple and beautiful antique house as it is, not for using as a way of producing money. The owner, Nilan, speaks some Japanese, was very nice person and at that time his nephew who is studying hotel management looked after us. Of course he wasn’t perfect, but he gave good advices from tuk tuk price to the recommended. It’s not “service” but kindness and sincere people. Its location is not by the beach, along the nearest street of the bentota river, but it was very carm and peaceful place. So I highly recommend for the people who don’t want too much service for asking tips, who love antiques, and who want to stay calmly and quietly. 4 double-bedrooms, we booked 2 rooms and they kept it only for us. Like a private house. 300m walking to the supermarket and reasonable restaurant. Good access to the beach and Aluthgama bus terminal.

Bad value for money

clean, friendly, spacious
We liked: the nice personel, their advice about the city, the cleanliness, the hot water, the bed, the space in the room We didnt like: the location (and the city), the mosquitos, the mostquito net, no glass on the windows (only shutters), no shower product, the breakfast (no choice, 1 egg and cold toasts), no garden, padlock at the door (and not a regular lock), no fridge, no tv

a private villa with a very warm host

warm and friendly owner, large rooms, quiet
Villa 201 is in fact a huge, well maintained house located off the town center. It may be hard to find in the night as the streets are dark. Though it is not along the bentota beach, the beach is just a walk or short tuk tuk ride away. The owner is very warm and friendly and he would do his best to meet your needs. He also brought some sri lankan new year sweets for us to try as we were there over the new year. The room and bathroom is big and clean and the bed is comfortable. We had a good rest for the night we were there.

Beautiful grounds and a spacious porch

Large, attractive room and open concept living spaces
The hotel name is an address so it takes tuktuk drivers awhile to figure this out. Itis near the train station (100rp) and not by the water as we expected. However our host was able to arrange all the activities we suggested and encouraged us to spend time at the beach by the Fresh Cafe., which we enjoyed. He was able to arrange a mango swamp boat trip in minutes and was very vigilant about keeping the front gate locked and the place secure. a good breakfast served on the open air side porch. One problem- you could not lock your room when you left the villa. A concern when we were leaving passports behind.

Lovely room in strange location

Large clean quality room
lovely room in out of town location. great reataurant within walking distance and easy to get tuk tuks anywhere. not a hotel to book if you need privacy as bedroom doors open onto public area. make sure you ask for a key to the outside gate in case it gets locked.
