comfort stay, clean room, helpful staff

clean room, air condition, hot shower, quiet place in the old town, very close to Wat Xieng Thong. not too far away for everything, in walking distance.
it was raining during my stay. The gh owner was so kind to borrow me a raincoat. It was a heavy duty type of raincoat, so can imagine how much water they have during raining season. :-)

Nice room, shame about the service.

Big room, well furnished and comfortable bed
We arrived at the hotel at 9pm to find a guy at the desk who spoke just enough English to check us in. It was dark and we needed to get our bearings but unfortunately they didn't have a map. "Not to worry", I thought, and presented him with the area map in the Lonely Planet and asked him where we were. He just looked at me and told me to wait an hour until the next guy on shift arrived. On getting into the room we were quite impressed - very spacious, well furnished , clean and a nice big, comfy bed. The glass doors to the toilet and shower were a bit odd, and given that we were both suffering from the runs we got to know each a little more intimately than we would have cared for! The next morning we were woken with a chorus of high pitch jabbering from the cleaning staff at 0600 who decided to have a mothers' meeting outside our room - this seemed to be a daily occurrence. Basically, this is a nicely located, decent hotel, but the staff were useless and genuinely had no idea. After asking them for a bar of soap the guy at the desk just went into melt down. He ran around the place before looking at the phone in a manner suggesting he'd never seen such a device before and appeared to repeatedly stab in a few random numbers, presumably trying to get through to house keeping, before staring at me in an intensely apologetic manner and shrugging. Breakfast is included, but the whole thing just looked so shambolic we opted to visit the outstanding French bakery just round the corner. Who knows - it might have been awesome?!
