Nice garden, indigenous look and feel, and staff support
I think this place attracts Westerners and backpackers more, compared to those who prefer a typical hotel stay. It's like a typical homestay, situated in what is normally called a "new village" setting. There were a couple of unrepaired broken floor tiles; and the window curtain is like for a smaller window and doesn't cover it completely. The road from the main road to the hotel is also not paved. The door is like for a normal home, with a turn-knob, so I'm not too sure how secure it can be. Best to bring an additional lock - though no break-ins or anything to this effect during my 2 nights' stay. Also, tuk-tuks from the bus station to the hotel - or for matter, anyway in Vientiane is pretty expensive (including food), even when compared to Bangkok standard. However, staff service is friendly and helpful, on the plus point. For the price I paid, I guess it's acceptable. I wouldn't rate the place too positively or too negatively. It all depends on what one is looking for.

Solo traveller - 2 nits in vientiane

Tradiotial building, lovely gardens, helpful staff
Staying 2 nights at Villa Lao I found the staff helpful and friendly, especially in arranging onward travel to the south of Laos. The room was clean and tidy, and very quiet. Location was good in general, though perhaps a little further to walk than some of the other hotels. If returning to Vientiane I would choose to stay at villa Laos.

Overall a pleasant experience

The location was peaceful, the staff were friendly and the rooms were nicely done
The hotel was very nice, very nice atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and helpful. However there was a lizard in my room. Which was annoying but what can you do?

Friendly guesthouse atmosphere

greenery, setup of garden/recreation area, location.
My stay was okay, a different 'hotel' experience. It is like a old timber barn fitted out with rooms. I was lucky not to many noisy guest because you will hear every single thing, including what is happening in rooms above(simple timber floors) and next to you. It was nice experience, I would not really call this a hotel. Very friendly .
