terrible "party" guest house

location to the beach,
Rooms really basic with no top sheets on the bed no toilet roll in bathroom and horrendously old smelly stained towels. The bar attached to the guesthouse is one of the busiest on the beach and plays woeful music until 6am making it impossible to sleep if you are not joining in. The staff could not care less about the complaints, and are lazy and spend their time smoking on the beach, understandably as they work from 8am when breakfast starts until the party stops. This place Ruins the otherwise chilled out vibes of mirissa beach. hopefully no where else opens up like this and turns mirissa into every other beach side teenagers dream

Could be much better

nice beach, seafood
Beach is quite nice, however there were several serious issues which spoiled our stay. There is loud music in the beach at nights (some days it gets really loud). Very poor wifi, basic breakfast, basic room decoration. Some of the staff are very nice, but some are just trying to sell you something. But the worst was that we were cheated by the management - we wanted to extend our stay, they agreed, but when there wasn't enough time to look for another place to stay, they suddenly downgraded us to much worse room.

Beautiful guest house on a great location

Beach location, rooms, fish for dinner
We had two rooms at Wadiya Guest House. Both of them were lovely an clean. The location on the beach with the attached beach restaurant was perfect. We could choose the freshly fished fish directly at a display at the beach. We enjoyed our stay and regretted that we moved forward to Hikkaduwa. We'd rather stayed in Mirissa at Wadiya Beach Guest House!

Disappointed with this guest house

Ideal for backpackers wanting to party
We were booked in to the guest house for 3-nights for 2-rooms. . However we could only cope with staying there for 1-night before moving on. The upside of the guest house are: (a) The guest house is on a good location beside the beach. The downsides are: (a) Price - we overpaid for the guest house. The house is only worth 30% of the price we paid (b) Rooms are bleak - the rooms are stark concrete and are lit by a single electric bulb. You do not want to spend any time other than sleeping in the rooms. This was hard as our youngest child was 3-years and you did want to spend your down time with him in the room. (c) Noise - this isn't the fault of the owners, just a reflection of the location. There was a beach disco nearby that went on to 3.30am. We couldn't sleep until it finished (d) Fan - there are ceiling fans in the rooms. However in one of the rooms the fan didn't work except on the highest setting. The noise of the fan competed with the beach disco. After one night we were shattered from staying at the guest house and had to move on to get a rest elsewhere. This guest house isn't suitable for families. Instead it is ideal for younger backpackers wanting to party on the beach to the early hours.

Beach front hotel

On the beach, large rooms, and breakfast overlooking the sea
The Wadiya Guest House is an excellent value for the money paid. We were given the room on the top floor (room 111) which has an adjoining kitchen and living room. We weren't given access to the extra room since we didn't pay for it, which is understandable (although I did ask!!) this room doesn't have a balcony, but it has huge windows that open up and you can see and hear the ocean from the room. I loved the noise of the waves crashing all night long. The room was clean and comfortable. As others have mentioned, the restaurant/bar staff are very "cool" and often seem disinterested. However, each afternoon, they would get a game of beach volleyball going and invite all of the guests to hit the ball around which was quite cool. The woman at the front desk was very nice and had a large smile. Wadiya is located on a very clean beach area. No trash, no rocks, no shells or other sea debris. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of Mirissa beach. The waves were large, but still manageable for swimming. There were a few small details that Wadiya has overlooked; one is that the key is required to unlock the door from inside the room. The issue is that when you pull the key out of the master power slot, the lights all go off. At night, you can see to insert the key to open the door. This is a huge issue if there is a fire or some other emergency where seconds matter during evacuation. Secondly, the window lock was broken so we couldn't lock the windows. As others have mentioned, the hotel is still under construction so there are a lot of loose ends. The TVs in the rooms don't work yet (no satellite connection). Also, there is no daily cleaning service, no toiletries provided, and towels are not changed unless you ask. All of these issues can be easily overlooked because the value for the price paid is very high and the location is outstanding. I highly recommend this hotel and would go back anytime I have the chance to travel to Sri Lanka.

Great place basic place to stay right on the beach

Location, friendly staff, easy access to activities
Definitely a guesthouse in that there's no room cleaning, etc. during the time you're there--however, if you need something, just ask. Staff was very helpful--we lost our key and they changed out the lock in a couple hours and didn't charge us. Food quality at all the restaurants along Mirissa is just OK, so Wadiya's was the same as everyone else's. They provided easy transport to and from the hotel (3 hours) and it was a perfect place to hang on the beach for 5 days. One clarification--we had rented the 2 bedroom family apartment, which ended up being a room with a double bed and and an adjoining living/kitchen space. The second bedroom (2 twin beds and a bathroom) was actually a separate room and not connected, making it a no-go as we didn't want our kids sleeping away from us and we all wanted to be together. We just moved the mattresses from the bedroom over to living room area and we were fine, but be advised the rooms are not all connected. Other than that, it was great.

Great location but needs finishing touches

Location on beach, excellent fresh fish, friendly staff
We enjoyed our stay, but if we returned to Mirissa, we would probably stay somewhere else but eat here. The room was clean (when we arrived, but not touched during our 3 night stay), bed was good, bathroom fine, and balcony with chairs. Room descriptions on Agoda or somewhat optimistic. The first room we were allocated (sea view) was south facing with no a/c, and we felt it would be too hot: fortunately they were able to switch us to room on the other side of the building with a/c which we were happy with. We never had any problem with late noise from the bar. Breakfast was good (always the same but choice on eggs) and the other food in the attached restaurant excellent: it was obviously the most popular place along the beach strip. Staff were mainly untrained, I would guess, but friendly and well organised by manager(?) Desman who always looked after us very well. As for the Guest House, it seems something of an afterthought: entrance from the road needs cleaning up, staff eating their meals in the garden area, rooms with dark unpainted concrete walls, unsightly pipes and wiring not boxed in, reception often unstaffed. There are signs that they are tackling some of the issues mentioned in previous reviews, and it would be a great place with a little more TLC!

Cool place by the beach

great view of the ocean, nice apartment, friendly staff
Great location, just by the beach. Awesome view. Nice fish dining, cool people, very chilled. They gave us one big apartment with an annexed extra double bedroom. A little noise from at sleeping time from the outside music, but bearable.
