Cheap, excellent location
Couldn't have asked for a better location. Was smack in the middle of Manhattan Island, and just a stone's throw away from Columbus Circle (59th St) subway station, sort of a minor hub for trains uptown and downtown. Bed linens, towels changed daily and shared bathroom (door can be locked for privacy) was very clean. However, room carpet was not the cleanest and staff were matter-of-fact but not the friendliest. Overall, you get what you pay for and ideal for budget travellers.

Small rooms good location
The rooms are very small, some of the air conditioning units are very loud we swapped rooms and it was quieter than the original room we were given. Good location you can walk to time square from hostel. And subway lines very close as well as resteraunts. The staff weren't the friendliest it felt like they were doing a huge favour when serving sometimes - it depends who u got. The Beds were changed and new towels were given each day and the toilets and showers were clean.

Like being in college again!
The West Side YMCA was exactly what I needed during my NYC visit! My single room was small but pleasant. It included a desk and chair, wifi, a comfortable bed, a window, a closet, an air conditioner/fan unit, and a small flatscreen TV. Housekeeping changed the sheets daily and provided a fresh towel every day or every other day. The bathrooms down the hall were generally quite clean, with three toilet stalls, three working faucets (and one that didn't work), and three shower stalls. Guests are invited to attend group exercise classes and use the swimming pool during open swim times (swim cap required), though I didn't have a chance to take advantage of these offerings. The location is stellar--within a short walk of Lincoln Center, the Upper West Side, Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, a variety of restaurants, Midtown, and the various subways stopping at 59th Street-Columbus Circle. My only complaint is that only one shower stall had a decent shower head; the other two were like taking a shower using a fire hose: lots of pressure, but stinging!

Amazing location
Amazing location in Central Park...!!! In the other hand is a hostel so you have to share restroom and shower, and probably your bed will be a bunker one. If this doesn't mind to you, you'll enjoy breakfast in Central Park every morning and 10-15 min walking to Times Square. Nearest metro stations are 59 (Columbus Circle) and 66. The hostel also have swimming pool and gym.

Good location but bad service
The location of the hostel is awesome and there are private rooms which not that expensive. However, the staff was not really friendly, and the worst part is they always clean the public bathroom at 10 am, which i think it is the busiest time of the day and people are lining up to take shower or use the bathroom.

EXPECT BETTER FROM YMCA!
The young woman who checked me in was great. Also at the front desk was Leroy who was shaky at best and who seemed unprofessional and incompetent. This was mostly due to the so called "Voucher" via Agoda mess that needs to be handled much better. Will not purchase with that again. No one seemed to be clear about how to reconcile. It was horrible. Came back downstairs and Leroy said room key was not activated and actually confiscated it. Uh? Although payment was confirmed. Then a supervisor had to be called. When I was escorted back to the assigned room. THE AC WAS ON. UH , huh?! Why was that if the room key was not working. Looking into why persons were engaging in some very shady goings on during the night like banging on my door shit was all-round SHADY..
