Okay hotel on Shaiman island
Furtniture style, late night cafe, location
Our stay at Weston hotel was a bit unsatisfactory. Our first room was filthy, but they had no alternative available that night - the next night they moved us into an identical room that was clean and they said had recently been refurbished, and I believed them as all the decorating equipment was still on the balcony. The staff were all friendly and helpful, though communication was sometimes very difficult as we know very little Chinese and only a few staff knew some English. The doorman when we arrived did speak English and helped us with a very difficult taxi driver who had tried to con us. The cafe was nice, but very "western", I would have preferred a Chinese twist to the offerings. The cafe staff did accept a very late order from us one night, so thank you to them for not turning us away. Free wifi was provided by a plug-mounted adapter in the room, and it worked okay. The hot water took a VERY long time to run through, at least ten minutes, which made the morning shower quite a drawn-out experience. The electric sockets the room were a bit dodgy, at least two made the bedside lights flash!

Unique hotel in a unique place
Friendly staff, Comfortable room
The room was quite big. We went during winter and we waited quite a while for the hot water. But other than that, it was a nice stay. Big room with old European style and friendly staffs.

Somewhat seedy but secluded and seductive
Lovely location on Shamian Island. Wonderful period building. Huge, characterful room with delightful balcony
Pleasant and fun. Great building and loads of space. The staff were likeable but not really competent and I guess it depends how particular about your plumbing ..... Shamian Island is an amazing oasis in the middle of a crowded, unlovely Chinese city.

Situated in one of the best scenic area in GZ
nice architecture. spacious room. convenient location.
Within walking distance from two metro stations. Given that no wifi service and breakfast is included, this hotel is a bit over-priced.

Unique, centrally located + comfortable
location, uniqueness, cleanliness
We stayed 2 nights + this hotel is unique - old colonial villa set in an urban island (Shamian Island) which is is the Liwan District. It was a very good choice. Not easy for taxi to find as it's located in an alley. On the park map, it goes by Al Travos Hotel. I think this hotel has changed names a couple of times. The hotel is set in a beautiful park setting + this area is so green + secluded. Expect large old trees, people doing Tai Chi in the morning, etc. Starbucks is near by (5mins). Walk to Shangxiajiu Road where there are tons of shopping (10mins). The Pearl River is also close by )5 mins walk) Definitely stay here again. The Wi-Fi in the rooms are still LAN lines but other than that, all's well!

Pleasant stay in a Guangzhou Hotel
Friendly staff, comfortable room & quiet surrounding
Hotel staffs are very friendly and eager to assist the guest. Room service is perfect and clean. Hotel Location is very quiet in surrounding and superb. 5-10 mins taxi drive to crowed shopping area like Beijing Lu. Nearly 40 mins drive from Airport. One poor point to say is no breakfast and restaurant in Weston Hotel. But, there are many restaurant and Starbucks coffee is within 5 mins walk.

Small Hotel in a Historical Building
Nice surroundings; Clean and spacious room; Friendly staff
We had to spend a few days in Guangzhou and had to stay in a city centre hotel for business meetings. So we decided to book in a hotel in Saimian to break away from the high rise jungle in Guangzhou. Weston is the newest hotel in Saimian. It has been restored from a historical building originally built by the French colony. It locates beside the French catholic chapel, Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel. Actually, the whole Saimian island comprises historical architecture of different colonial styles. The hotel itself is clean, the room is spacious. It is just a small hotel of less than 20 rooms and not serving food, yet there are a few good restaurants nearby and Starbucks is only 5 minutes walk away. Free internet connection is available in the room. WiFi is available in the lobby but not the rooms. Perhaps this is one simple issue the hotel management can improve.
