Good value hotel in Monywa

price, service, rooms
Probably the best hotel in Monywa, the Win Unity is a little walk out of town, but opposite is a nice restaurant on the lake, and the rooms are well furnished, quiet surroundings, and staff are friendly. A mix of new and old.

OK Stay Except for the Restaurant

Room, Grounds, Facilities
The room was fine, the grounds were nice, the reception staff were friendly and helpful. But the restaurant was bad news. We arrived for lunch and ordered a club sandwich (boring I know)and saw the staff cook the toast - but 40 minutes later a cold soggy sandwich turned up - then the staff wanted to split the bill between $US and kyat. That evening we went for drinks, ordered, and 20 minutes later were told that those drinks weren't available and we had another bill debate. Next morning because their driver wanted to take us early we had early breakfast - stone cold eggs from the servery only to watch the staff light the food warmers 15 minutes later. The hotel is OK, maybe a 20 minutes walk from town - just give the restaurant a miss. PS, my wife was really sick the next day!!

Overpriced hotel

The best hotel in town anyway
It looks nice from outside but the rooms are simple and the bathroom was not very clean. In addition, the internet signal in the room was too week so I couldn't use it. The reception was chaotic. Many big group tours arrive and the english of the people is not good.

Terrible service

Looks nice from the outside. Good landscaping, if that matters. Quiet.
Charged outrageously high prices for everything, including laundry and transportation. They quoted $10 for a 5 minute car ride to the bus station (which we subsequently found on our own by walking the highway for a bit for about $2). Front desk staff did not speak very basic English despite catering to foreign tourists. The low point was when one night we decided to stay in for dinner. There were about 6 parties there (for a large room that seats probably 30 tables) and the staff was completely overwhelmed. We waited about a 45 minutes before we could actually order anything; then we watched as dishes came out of the kitchen over the course of the next hour and were piled up on an empty table, apparently a sort of staging area so that they could next be delivered to actual customers. Many never were and sat and sat and got cold. Eventually we got three out of four dishes we ordered, and gave up on the last. The whole thing was quite funny to watch, though we were starving at the time!

Good value for money.

Cleanliness, Comfort and Staff performance.
I really enjoyed my stay at Win Unity Resort. Everything was great. It's an excellent place for relaxing after sightseeing around. Monywa is a very hot place. Spending even half an hour in the swimming pool or going to the Spa are very effective ways to get relaxed and escape the heat. I would definitely recommend this resort to all travellers.

Nice resort stop before the temples of Bagan

The gym was good, I was the first ever to usr the treadmill! The hotel is good for a short stop anf rest before hitting Bagan
The hotel restaurant is quite expensive, we went for the island restaurant across the road for some change (take mosquito repellent). You need taxi to visit any place, we simply didn't go anywhere because we were exhausted.

Friendly staff but average hotel

Variety of breakfast was good, staff were helpful and attentive
The resort is conveniently located in the temple area so it's practical to visit them. You can rent a car, a bike or a motorbike. The room was clean but looked very dated. Having said that it was comfortable and we enjoyed quiet nights. Wifi is only available in reception or restaurant and I can't explain why it hasn't been rolled out to cover the bungalows too. Food in the restaurant is good but it takes a long time to arrive (expect 30 mins after you order). Food is also RIDICULOUSLY overpriced! This is a common problem with isolated resorts: you either need to take a taxi to go to town to a restaurant or you eat in and you pay the price. We enjoyed our stay but next time we would choose a hotel which is located next to shops / restaurants so that we can go out when we want.
