In the heart of Kathmandu Durbar Square

Location, Service, Food
I booked the budget room, which is at the back of the hotel. There is an entrance to access Durbar Square downstairs. The stay was semi comfortable specifically because of the thin walls and the shared bathroom with no hot water. Despite the slight discomfort, I am very happy with their service. Glitches happened and forgiven. The location itself is a plus because if you enjoy observing how the locals live, this can be a place to start. My heart hurts as I write this from my home country, like many others, I survived the earthquake and pray that the owners and staff I met here are safe, especially the ancient Newari architecture that this family had preserved for centuries. My prayers are with the strong survivors of Nepal. Please take care guys ...

i didn't like the area, lots of tourists but nice hotel
great staff, spectacular rooms. Like staying on hand rocks in Sydney. Really nice exposed beam ceilings. Massive rooms that look like palaces with massive carved entry doors. Very cool.

Excellent room, shower at nights for hot water

Location, very comfortable bed
Very comfortable bed - cannot say enough good things about the bed. Hot showers only at night and very noisy from about 5:30am on - you will be woken by trumpets etc. Allow an hour for the arrival of any food you may order - but the food is of excellent quality.

Beautiful rooms

Room full of character, comfortable bed
This is a noisy place to stay if you like to sleep in - but if you are planning to be up early you can get to Durbar Square through the back courtyard. Food is slow - but of excellent quality. We recommend flagging a taxi outside the front gates as opposed to ordering one through the hotel which takes a long time - there are heaps taxis having just dropped off passengers at the Square.

Budget rooms are very budget - upgrade!

Location and the quality of the food
This was originally a budget room - but quickly upgraded as the walls were extremely thin.

Beautiful design - terrible customer service

location, decor, hot water shower (when the water is working)
Design and location were great, however staff were unhelpful and even a bit sneaky in trying to overcharge us for taxis. The front desk woman wanted us to pay 1600 Rupees for a roundtrip taxi to Fire & Ice Pizzeria in Thamel. I protested and said I would pay maximum 400 Rupees for one way. She said she would book it, but a taxi never showed up. We found our own taxi and paid only 300 Rupees for a single trip. When the water went out (not just hot water, we had no running water) she said they would bring a bucket of water to flush the toilet, but no one came with water. She also tried to overcharge my friend for her room - she was quoted 50 USD and the front desk woman tried to ask her for 75 USD. It's really a shame that this hotel has such poor customer service. Next time, I will go back to Dream Nepal Hotel in Thamel. The service there was incredible.

Never expect it would be really good.

Location, rooms, staff
We stayed at the hotel just for a night, but it was memorable. My cousin and I love the attic room we had. It was very big that could fit even 7 persons. Hanuman-dhoka square is also justin the neighborhood so it was reallly a great experience. Staff was very nice and accomodating also.

Did not live up to expectations for price paid

Location, heritage building
Paid for a deluxe double room- the highest tariff but room given was way below expectation, unlike any photos shown on the website. Totally understand that this is a heritage boutique hotel that all rooms are different, as according to the owner. But during check-in, entrance to room was messy with workers working in front. No housekeeping was done before we checked in. Windows left wide open, floor dusty with footprints clearly seen when walked over. And glass given was left with water half drank. Bathroom was located outside the room, via private key supposedly; BUT before we could use it, toilet has apparently been used and NOT flushed. Toilet seat was faulty and flush not working and whole toilet was very dusty as well. Requested to change room as I asked repeatedly if this is the deluxe double room that was booked. Feedback was all rooms were fully booked and this is the only room available except for another room downstairs which was much smaller and darker. To be fair, our complaints above were attended to by the owner's daughter (presumably) after I asked to speak to the manager. Room was cleaned and towels changed, toilet seat and flush fixed. But damage is already done with first impression tarnished; as we had truly anticipated this stay as our last leg of our Nepal trip.
