Comfortable old fashioned service

Food, heritage, bed
Our stay was very comfortable, no fuss just one night for business, it was quiet (even though we were warned that it could be noisy) warm, a nice bath, cozy and friendly.

pleasant stay

scenery, food and cleanliness
Staffs were friendly. Surroundings very quiet and peaceful. Gardens and flowers around the hotel just fills up the vibrancy of the whole hotel. Food was good.

well located for wineries

location, near beach and room comfort
we enjoyed our stay as it was a revamped older hotel with style. There were markets wednesday night and the beach near however weather too chilly. we did go to a dinner theatre style but were expecting degustation so when we paid for drinks we were disappointed and food pretty ordinary.

Old Hotel that just got Revamped

Near to the beach, Good food at lobby, Fresh air
Hotel was newly renovated but kept all the 1930's fittings due to a fire. Eerie feeling at night when it's cold and heater is not working. Bathroom was the coldest and eeriest....

Dark, cold and depressing

The mature surfing waiter in the restaurant/ food
The 'welcome' factor wasn't there. We were handed the room keys perfunctionarily, a letter with rules, and given directions to our room. The car park was full, so we had to park far away (it was raining). The Spa room was dark, and depressing - although reasonably furnished. The restaurant was cold, and also a bit dark and dreary - and they hadn't bothered to light the fire, which would have cheered the place up. (It was lit in the public bar). The fish (From the 'Specials' board) we had for dinner was FAB, including the Creme Brûlée dessert - and the waiter ( a mature, surfer guy) was very welcoming. Breakfast was great too and well presented, but we had prepaid and were 'allowed' only one coffee on the paper voucher. I could NOT recommend the hotel to stay in - there was zero welcome and zero service. Given this place has got rave reviews it was disappointing - if you're in hospitality business - don't forget the HOSPITALITY! I would go to BASILDENE MANOR, which is not too far away, and similarly historic - but they've got it right!
