An amazing weekend stay!

The staff, the food, the onsen.
I remember staying in Yudanaka a couple of years ago. We had a fantastic night in a ryokan there but couldn't remember its name as a friend had booked it for us. This time, we booked by ourselves and went with the Seifuso hotel; the review scores were superb. As we got to the hotel, after an easy 2-minute walk from the station, we realized to our pleasant surprise that the Seifuso hotel was the same we had stayed in two years before! As before, the welcome from the owners and staff and their service throughout our stay were superb. They accommodated our requests for meals without seafood, offered to drive us to the monkey park, and gave us delicious locally grown apples as a gift. The hotel itself is obviously a little old but clean and very comfortable. The floors can be creaky and make some noise when people are moving around, but that shouldn't matter when sleeping after a relaxing bath in the outdoor onsen. Overall, an amazing stay in a pretty mountain area. We will be coming back a third time!

Great location, services and food

Location, services & food are excellent.
I had my stay at this hotel for a night. This is a small onsen hotel operated my a family. Location is good, it's just 3 minutes walk from the train station. Breakfast and dinner were great with reasonable price. Excellent service, although English of the staff is not good. But, we can still communicate with some body languages. If I go to Yudanaka again in the future, I will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Fantastic service; fantastic value for money

Service, value for money, cleanliness
Fantastic, authentic Japanese experience! Despite not being able to converse in english, our hosts made us feel extremely welcome and even offered us complimentary transfers from the train station and to the monkey park. Japanese hospitality at its best! Although we never specified our arrival timing as it was an extremely last minute booking, we found our host standing at the station with a sign for us at 10.30pm at night. We have no idea how many times he had come down to wait for us (we guess this was at least his 2nd or 3rd time at least) which we really appreciated even though the accommodation was barely 5min away. Even though both the elderly lady and gentlemen who helped us with our check in was able to converse in english, we (through hand gestures) managed to understand that they were welcoming us to use their hot baths as we liked. There were 3 hot baths - 1 outdoor, 1 indoor and 1 private (for shyer ladies like myself :p) which we were enthusiastically encouraged to try out (they even had apples which was in season bobbing around one of the hot springs!). The establishment itself felt like a relic from the 90s, but an extremely well maintained and cleaned one at that with wifi avail if rooms. Super conveniently located - Great dinner spot open till midnight 1 minute away if like us, you didn't book dinner with them. Lawsons and train station within 6min walk. Wish we could have stayed more than 1 night; definitely staying at the same place if we come back to Yamanouchi!

Hospitality in Japan

Location, Service and Hospitality
When I first arrived, I was tired from a long trip from Koyasan. The amenities at this hotel were far more modest than I expected..but then again it was a very small town. The facilities were also not as impressive and since it dates back to the Meiji era, I am not surprised. I really badly wanted to like this hotel initally but nothing seemed to work in my room: internet or tv. The public bath, seemingly clean, smelled a little funky. Maybe I am a little spoiled by major cities, but this place had a charm to it and the owners/workers are very nice. They spoke minimal English but attempted to communicate with me. The defining point of why I agree that this hotel should be rated top notch is because of the warmth and hospitality I received from the owner. He was an elderly man and drove me to the Jigokudani Monkey Park. He almost felt like my grandpa when I came back to the hotel to pick up my stuff and looked glad I found my way back. They sent me off with an apple as a souvenir and it really warmed my heart when he shook my hand sa I left. He left me with a very fond memory of Yudanaka...which I never experienced in any other city. This place didn't feel like a hotel; it felt like a home.
