    Loved the guest lounge/kitchen ”

Pros. Friendly helpful staff. Guest lounge with cooking facilities which allowed us to make a simple breakfast each day (meal prices in Sydney are high so we saved $25 to $40 a day this way). Self serve laundry off the Lounge. Large reasonably priced Coles grocery store at World Centre 1.5 blocks north? on George Street. New George Street tram stop right outside the front door (opened the day after we left). Close to China Town and one of the many Sydney bays. We stayed in a shoebox room. It was small like Tokyo hotels but adequate. The shower for 2 was a nice surprise. If you want a large spacious room this is not the place for you. But if you want a clean cosy reasonably priced place to stay I would recommend the 1831 Boutique Hotel. Taxis can not stop at the front door but there is a second entrance on Sussex (parallel street to west) that taxis and Ubers can access. The elevator on Sussex is larger.

    Location, Location, Location”

The best feature has to be location. you cannot get better than george street!!
Thin windows- can hear traffic, construction in the morning

I stayed at this hotel with 2 friends. We arrived 4-5 hrs prior to check in time and they were able to give us our room within 30mins. The room was clean and modern, yes it was small but really we were only there to sleep and drop off our shopping. Each morning there was a newspaper at our door. The staff were friendly and always smiling. This place is in the heart of sydney and can walk just about anywhere from this hotel. Bus stop is few metres up the street. Haymarket/chinatown is literally in the backyard of this hotel. Darling harbour is a 10min walk. Grand central station is a 5-10min walk. For the price we paid and location I would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to anyone, the only downside to this place- the windows are not double glazed-hence you can hear the traffic and there is a lot of construction happening and they start very early. Its not that bad but if you are a light sleeper you may have sleepless nights.

We would like to say a big thank you for taking the time to fill out review. We continually aim to provide the highest level of customer service as well as the best facilities. Some of our rooms are smaller than others due to the hotel being situated within a heritage building, however we do try and highlight these facts on our website. We have some larger room types which you may find more comfortable so please don’t hesitate to contact us on your next trip to Sydney so we can find the perfect fit for you. Thank you again, and we look forward to welcoming you back. Warm Regards, 1831 Boutique Hotel Team

    Suprisingly Good Hotel in Chinatown”

Friendly, helpful staff; clean, modern facilities; excellent location
    No cons . . .

We had a great time in Sydney in no small part due to the excellent location of the Pensione Boutique Hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean, comfortable and exceeded our expectations. We were upgraded on arrival (I'm not sure why), so I dare say our original room would have been quite small, however, our upgraded room was spacious for the price in Sydney's CBD. Love the huge shower head in the bathroom. I wanted to take it home with me.

    Small, classy, comfy hotel ”

Great central Sydney location. Best price in town.

This is my fifth stay at the Pensione Boutique Hotel. When in Sydney I wouldn't stay anywhere else. It's in easy walking distance to Central, and the rest of the CBD. Yes, the rooms are small, but also comfortable and very nicely decored. Fresh white linen & modern en suites. The staff are super friendly and always ready to help. I've always asked for a quiet room away from George St and have always got one.

    Just right”

Affordable, simple, tidy, close to everything as you get out of the building, helpful staff
Small corridor (but that cant be helped), no good views (cant be helped either)

The kind of place you need for a night or two if you want to look around the city, room may be small but i had no problem with that its just perfect for the both of us...the place may look old and may need a bit of renovation to give a new look, but im guessing that applies more to other picky customers, its quite surprising the reception is upstairs, i got used to having the reception right in front of me as soon as i enter the premises, no big deal for me i was even more fascinated because of that, the room and the bathroom were clean, we didnt have any problems we enjoyed our stay...for other customers dont expect the place to have a good view, better leave the curtains closed then, i didnt want the windows open since we wanted more privacy for ourselves...overall its a good hotel very convenient, close to central station (maybe 10mins) close to china town and town hall, clean and affordable...the staff was great, they also give out information on where to go, places to see and eat around sydney. no need to spend alot, u just need a room to relax and sleep and a clean bathroom to take a shower, pensione is the right place

Great location, simple and modern decorated rooms, great value for money

Stay here for a couple of nights and was perfect location for us to see the sights of Sydney. Loved that it is so close to Chinatown which offers great selection of cheap and yummy eating options. Bus stop is a few steps away which is great as you can catch the free shuttle bus. Room is on the small size and so is the bathroom but loved the big shower heads. And for the room price, can't really complain especially when we don't spend a lot of time in the rooms anyway. Would stay here again.

    A nice boutique hotel”

    Small but clean boutique hotel.
    travel adapter is not provided.

This boutique hotel is really worth for its price. The room is very clean with the complete facilities. An ideal location in which you can reach to those attraction within walking distance. For example, chinatown, darling harbour, paddy market and central station. The hotel's staffs are very friendly and helpful. The weakness is travel adapter is not provided and sold out. Anyway, beyond our expectation because the room is not as small as mentioned eventhough we booked for the petite double room.

Location was great! Clean room! Super friendly staff!”

I highly recommend this hotel to those who prioritise location. It is at the centre of everything. 10 minutes walk to central station. A few minutes walk to Coles for groceries. There’s a pharmacy beside the hotel, Paddy’s Market is a few blocks away it’s surrounded by restaurants and a few minutes walk to Darling Harbour or Sydney Tower. There’s also laundry and a kitchen for guests to use which i appreciate. Our room was cleaned everyday! The staff are amazingly friendly and helpful! They’re awesome! Overall, it was a great stay and i would book this hotel again if i come back to Sydney!

    Duo room”

Price was reasonable compare to other hotels in that area (booked few weeks before). Room is clean, although the room is slightly dim (prefer to have more lights in the room). No chair in the room. Internet is good. Location is great, less than 10-15 minutes walk to Chinatown, Paddy's market, World Square, Town Hall, Queen Victoria Building and Hyde Park. Staff were friendly and helpful. Took a shuttle bus from hotel to airport which cost $16/person (recommended as it is the last stop before going to airport).

    Convenient”

location, room options, the old/new architecture

I've stayed at Pensione for a longer time while attending a conference, but when passing through Sydney from Canberra and my international flight was cancelled, I just needed a place to sleep overnight. The Matchbox room fit the bill. Even adding the cost of the NSW Transport's Opal card train trip + Airport access fee to and from the airport the total didn't even come close to the price of any hotel close to the airport. I only had hand luggage, so walking back and forth from Central station was no problem. Love the ambiance. Other great things: I got to eat in China Town, and I had time before my flight to go to church just a couple of doors up at Central Baptist's Sunday international service.

This hotel was at the edge of Chinatown and with only a ten minute walk you would be at the beautiful Sydney harbor. Modern decor, air conditioning, and tv are found in each room. There is laundry facilities also available for use. The rooms were a little small but the location and cleanliness made it ok.

Good value , very clean , central location ”

Centrally located on George street . Very close to Central Station too. Our room was small ( room 405) but all we wanted WAS a room . The room , bed , shower room was scrupulously clean and we had clean bed linen on day 3 without asking. Wardrobe was small and it had a fridge in the bottom so hanging space limited. The hotel gave us extra coat hangers too as we only started with a few . If we are ever lucky enough to visit Sydney again we would be happy to use this hotel . We ate out so didn't use the communal kitchen . Tea/coffee in room was very welcome and extra milk supplied with a smile . All staff we met were helpful and all had a smile on their face that felt genuine . When booking a room we would recommend booking the largest you can afford and the rooms on the top floor would be quietist I think . There is a lift .

Compact but with loads of pluses”

Central location, friendly and helpful staff, Well fitted out even though small rooms.

On arrival we received an upgrade to a better room than the one booked, we were only staying the one night. The room though compact was extremely suitable for a couple. The bathrooms were nicely appointed and the room had a crisp and clean feeling. We dealt with several different front desk staff members and all were extremely helpful with very strong customer service skills. The positioning of the hotel was excellent as we had come from Central train station and were interested in seeing Darling Harbour and other features of Sydney. It was even located on the free bus service with a stop only meters from the front door. We were very happy with our stay and plan to visit again in the future for longer period. This hotel provided excellent value without feeling that we had to compromise on quality.

    Great location but small room”

Close to Chinatown and Bus Stops

Pensione Boutique Hotel is located in the city centre and very closed to shopping centre , Chinatown , train station and bus stops. Also, the city loop bus stop is just in front of the hotel to travel around the city or the Opera House for free. The room was just a bit small but comfortable with own shower room and already enough for a night sleep for a couple of days. The kitchen area and coin-laundry machines were available. Friendly Staffs are willing to help when I am asking.

great hotel for beginners in sydney”

    location, comfort, price, facilities

although there are a lot of rooms in the hotel, and people, there is still a lot of privacy and quiet. the rooms are small yet comfortable. the bathroom is great and clean, shower very good. the bed is comfortable, and enough space for luggage and all that. little fridge is convenient for buying your own drinks to avoid the overpriced water available for purchase. just downstairs there is an abundance of great food to be found, a bus stop for a free bus service to circular quay and around which is awesome for first timers in sydney. the hotel is situated between 2 trains stations which are expensive but far cheaper than taxis. the staff are very friendly and helpful, so dont hesitate to seek their useful assistance.

    A pleasant stay!”

Good size and clean room with comfortable bed. Washers and Dryers are on site. Conveniently located in Hay Market (Chinatown). Many beautiful and graceful churches nearby. Fabulous restaurants and brand name boutiques and shopping centres are just couple of steps away. Friendly and helpful staff. The assistant manager Ali is knowledgeable, and very accommodating! In all, it was a pleasant stay!

Good deal for a quick trip”

    Location, value for money, staff

Having booked a quick trip to Sydney, I saw a good deal for the Pensione and had to take it up. Although the room was fairly small, it was everything I needed for my brief visit to Sydney. The location is ideally located by Chinatown, providing an easy walk to plenty of shopping and dining options, plus Central Station is approximately 10minutes walk. I would happily stay again!

    CONVENIENT”

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel as it is in a good location. We walked down to Darling Harbour, then to Barangaroo and up to the Rocks area. We continued over to Circular Quay and then through Hyde Park back to the Hotel. A wonderful way to see Sydney. The staff are friendly and hotel is clean. I would definately recommend if you are looking for a place as a base for travelling in Sydney. If you are looking for a bit of luxury with a pool and spa, then this is not the place.

Very small good for overnight stay”

    Cheap- conviniently located

The Pensione Boutique standard deluxe room is ridiculously small. It basically has one large bed and a desk. If you are travelling in a couple and both have suitcases you wont be able to fit in there. It was a bit claustraphobic It's quite cheap, and very conveniently located in Chinatown. Short walk from everything. The walls are thin and not very sound proof. I could hear my neighbours "getting busy". On the plus side, its actually very clean. The beds are nice and new and soft. Good modern flatscreen tv. Also has a very spacious shower- and one of those large showerheads. Choose if you do not need a lot of room and you are only planning on staying for a night or 2. Also good if you are only going to use the room to rest in.
