Pleasant, Quiet, Affordable Place + Friendly Staff”
Was searching online for a budget place to stay since I was traveling solo and found the hidden gem that is 1896. Was advised they have a backpacker room at P400 per head per night but decided to take the most affordable room instead at P1200/night. That rate got me the Jacinto Room - a spacious room with its own bathroom, a double bed and a single bed, plus enough space to fit in maybe 6 people if needed (though the others may have to sleep on mattresses on the floor). The room has no aircon but has an electric fan (because Baguio climate is cool and doesn't really require aircon in rooms, especially at night). The bathroom is also spacious (although I found a few small bugs here and there). There is also a small space in the room that may have previously been a walk-in closet (since the hotel was actually an old house that was transformed into a B&B) so you can keep your stuff there. Breakfast is plated, nothing spectacular, but is good because it's included in the room rate and offers the usual local fare (rice and egg with hotdog/sausage/tocino/fried fish, or pancakes). It is served in their in-house "cafe" where you can also wine and dine at night. They have a sizeable menu that includes different local dishes, beer chow, and even alcohol. Staff are mostly male, I think (or maybe I missed seeing any female staff), but they are friendly and courteous, particularly Con, who seemed very happy to serve. The place is quiet and homey, tucked away behind a bigger hotel, but be warned that it requires some physical strength to walk up to it from the main road, so I suggest taking a cab that can take you all the way up there. (Not a big problem in Baguio.) Other than the little flaws I mentioned, for a budget B&B, this place is good. I'd be happy to come back to it in the future. :)

value for money...”
Me and my partner went to Baguio to celebrate her birthday. We came in early and they were able to check us in early than their normal check in time... I so love the ambience, the feeling that you were taken back in time. Although my partner found it a little creepy because of its dim light, but for me its perfectly ok. If you want a homey atmosphere, a home away from home, this is a perfect place. There were some dont points (even 5star hotel has), but all in all you'll get the value of what you have paid for. To the management and staff, thank you for your accommodations, i will surely get back to 1896 and will recommend you! Keep it up!

Good Hotel at the lowest price ”
The price is one of the cheapest we found in Baguio and the hotel is really good. In fact this is our second time in this same hotel Had hot water which is really needed while in Baguio and wifi, but wifi is not always good from inside the room Will be my choice again and again evertime l'll be back in Baguio. The price in Agoda is half the price of booking direct with the hotel, so my recommendation is to book on Agoda

Affordable and accessible”
We booked the place 3 days before we arrived Baguio. It was easy to locate, basically Crown Legacy would be the best landmark you can tell the cab driver. You can walk from Burnham Park to the BnB. Some cab drivers are aware of where it is exactly located. The rate is reasonable and affordable. We got a discount from booking here in Agoda, so 900 per night. It is inclusive of all their amenities, WiFi access, free breakfast, towels, hot shower, and cabled TV. The room we booked was the Jacinto room, for 2 persons. It is spacious, and can fit 2 more queen size beds. They have 2 blankets ready, and 2 comfortable pillows. The television offers cable channels, but reception is not that good. The WiFi is good, my boyfriend was able to play his mobile games, and they require a stable internet connection. The bathroom was clean, and working. However, they turn the water off by 12MN, and turn it on the next morning. The hot shower works, and the toilet flush also works, same with the sink. One problem we encountered was that the sink pipe was leaking, so the bathroom floor becomes wet everytime. Breakfast is served every 7AM until 10AM. They offer, corned beef, bangus and hotdog with egg and rice as options. They also offer coffee. The place turns into a resto+bar at night. So it gets a little noisy until 10PM, but only until that time. We were not bothered that much because Jacinto was kind of far from the lobby, where the videoke, billiard playing and drinking take place. Overall, the stay is good. Perfect for budget traveler, and those looking for just a place to stay. Would highly recommend it to friends. :)

Convenient location and accommodating staff”
1896's location is very convenient for commuting travelers. Getting a cab from the place is so easy. Just walk for 3 minutes from 1896 and you reach the road where cabs always pass by. The place is an old house converted to a Bed n' Breakfast. We were a group of 3 but the room we got could actually fit more. The room was clean and kept well. Simple, nothing fancy. The bathroom could use a little updating though; but it shouldn't be much of an issue especially if you just need a place to sleep in. The staff were very accommodating and even very pleasant when I was calling them for inquiries. You won't have a hard time dealing with them. PS. Bath towels and foot towels are available upon request.

Would definitely recommend this hotel”
It's not normal in the Philippines to have big rooms when you rent a hotel, so we where impressed how big the rooms are. The area is 5 mins walk from Burnham Park It is clean, safe and good breakfast included. WiFi is ok, not much fast in the room but enough, it can be much faster if you go out of the room. It have hot water which is a must while in Baguio. The 1 think I didn't like is, that if you wake up early, the water pressure is closed, so if you need a shower, you have to take water from a big tank. The only problem is that the tank water is cold. Another small problem is that the taxi drivers don't know much about this hotel but once you mention the adress, then it's easy, so just keep the adress of the hotel where you can find it easily.

A quaint and cozy nook in the heart of Baguio City!”
The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable (they have a walk-in closet)! The sheets and towels are likewise clean (they smell freshly-laundered, too). Ample water supply with hot water's available per room (though there is a signage in the bathroom about possible water problems, we have not encountered any). You can hear the karaoke session and chatter at the resto bar downstairs, but the staff prohibits any singing or loud activities by 10 PM (we don't mind the noise, but some people might be sensitive about it, especially those who sleep early), and they are required to leave at 12 am. Since it's an old house that is converted to a bed-and-breakfast, it gives off that comfy homey feel that is not present in most hotels. Secure parking space, as they lock the gates at 12 am as well (yes, the guests who are booked for the night are required to be back on or before that time). The staff are nice and friendly, too. We'd highly recommend this place to friends who want to try something new and those who have discriminating tastes but are on a budget. A little side story here: I paid for 2 Superior rooms, for 4 adults (the first room for my spouse and I, our 2 companions to occupy the other room). Upon checking-in, I was told that they prepared and reserved only 1 room, for 4 adults (1 queen sized bed, 2 twin beds). I got quite pissed, of course, and showed her my booking confirmation/certificate indicating payment for 2 rooms. What's worse is that we cannot contact the owner/manager (or whoever's responsible for notifying the staff about the booking). At that point, I firmly told them that it's not my problem that we cannot contact the owner/manager, and they need to do something about it since I've done my obligation beforehand. They remedied the situation by preparing another room, but it's smaller and near the kitchen (smells like it, too). So, I got 1 superior room, and a smaller room for the same price. Though I felt short-changed, I realized there's noth

One of Baguio's Little Charm”
We booked via Agoda the Jacinto Room but were surprised when we were upgraded to Mabini Room since we needed an extra bed. The room was of great size, it could actually fit in about a dozen. We checked in late since we needed to drive past the number coding hours and it was good that we had no problems with our booking. It's okay to check in late since until 11PM, the house is still lively with all the karaoke and billiards going on. It's actually a quaint pub at night. It would be a bother for some but for me, it's really nice. The amenities inside the room were basic. A private bathroom, a walk-in closet, 2 queen size beds, a double decker bed and a TV. The furnitures are pretty old and the bathroom needs a little updating but if you're not too keen about it and just needed a place to stay, I'd say 1896 Bed and Breakfast is a good deal - our booking came with a free breakfast too. Upon check out, since it's still daytime, there were no guests using the billiard table to we played with it like it was our private game room. The staff were very friendly and they would attend to your needs with a smile, all you have to do is be nice to them :) Overall, I enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider the place again should we need a place to stay in Baguio.

Good value room in good location ”
The 1896 is situated up a steep slope at the bottom of the Burnham Park about 10mins walk from town centre or 10mins walk the other way to SM Mall. The 1896 is a cross between an inn and a videoki venue. It's a busy place doing breakfasts from 7 and closes at midnight. The staff are helpful. The rooms are old but clean and large no A/C but it's cooler in the mountains so not needed and has hot shower.

They also have billiards table and darts! The staff was very accommodating!!! I already told my friends that if we decided to stay in Baguio we will stay in 1896 BnB :)

Good”
Huge rooms. Expect silog meals for breakfast. Ample parking. Friendly staffs. Toilet need repairs... Dogs and cats around, expect stinky smells... Location is not good for olds for walking...unless you have own transportation or via taxi. Im expecting the gameroom, karaoke, bbq facilities as mentioned by some previous guest, those are no longer available. All these are tolerable, for the price we paid for. Im still young and will come back here soon. Thank you 1896

Far from the city noise but near enough for a 15min walk.”
Rizal room: Room was huge and wood all over, there's a fireplace that adds charm to the room! Has a balcony access which views the gate and outside street. Clean bathroom with tub, although you can't use the tub since the stopper is no where to be found. It's a pub a night but only until before midnight; billiards, karaoke, beer and pulutan available. The noise are not a problem for me even though out room is just above it. No more view froom any of the rooms as the whole lot area got surrounded by huge modern buildings and stuff. Breakfast is OK, maybe too little viand. Staff was helpful and friendly. Smoking can be done at the alfresco dining. During breakfast, we have some take-out from previous nights that we asked to keep inside their fridge. I requested to heat some of the food and susbstitute it for their rice; they obliged and serve us the food as requested. NOTE: If you want to experience night-life in baguio, find another place that doesn't have a curfew. I think the crufew here is 12am, more than enough time for me since I don't do parties. This place is behind the CROWN LEGACY, the one with the steep turn and a right steep turn.

Unpleasant experience”
Book this accommodation at your own risk. I have been to many Asian hotels since 2011, all were booked thru agoda but this is the worst experience I ever had in an accomodation. Read on: It's an old house converted to accept transient travelers. The house is old but pleasant. We rented the Rizal room I will not go back and book this accommodation ever. Simply because, we arrived there past 9PM from Manila. As a local tourist, of course, we are excited to experience nightlife in Baguio. To our surprise the attendant (whose name is Marvin) told us that we should go back before 1AM because he wakes up at 4AM to prepare the breakfast. He said he's the only one manning the accommodation. I didn't know we paid for this accommodation just to be imposed curfew on.But because we are excited to go out, we just told him that we'll go back 4AM just in time when he wakes up. Lo and behold, we went back to the accommodation 15 minutes before 5AM and no one opened the gate for us. We ended up, sleeping on the street outside the gate in a cold 5AM. We waited for almost an hour outside. We're so tired, sleepy, and hungry so we decided to find a place where we could stay for an hour or two at least to wait for the attendant to open the gate. We took a cab and went to a restaurant called Good Taste, luckily, they didn't scold us for sleeping there (nap). We went back to 1896 Bed and Breakfast past 6AM. We're very exhausted and tired. We woke up almost 10AM and left the room after preparing ourselves to leave. And yes, since its past 10AM they didn't serve us breakfast. In my opinion, if they cannot man the needs of their guest then they should stop accepting them.

Great for Large Group/Family”
We travelled as a whole family to Baguio for thw first time. I was with my husband, 6 yrs old son and 1 month old daughter. There were 1 Double Bed, 1 Single Bed and 1 Bunk Bed at our room and we got it for 3k for 3 days and 2 nights. We had a great time cause the staffs were accomodating. But it would be better if they improve the facilities escpecially the restroom, the heaters are already old and I think dirts are stuck at the shower reason why water coming out was not enough. It would also be better if they decorate the rooms more, probably add a ref and small bar (which will be charged) Aside from that the parking area was okay but smelly due to the dog poop and urine which was evident when we arrived. There is a bar downstairs and its smells bad due to the beer cases near the reception. The food was good and would keep you going until lunch time. Overall with the price I paid it was worth it.

Good value, friendly - not for everyone though!”
Location is tucked away behind the Crown Legacy Hotel. There is a short steep hill, if you're walking, to access the property. The room I stayed in, Mabini, was large with a double bed andva bunkbed. Seperate bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. Equipped with a fan and had a bedside lamp. The included breakfast was Filipino. In the evenings the menu is fairly typical. The place is lively! Karaoke, pool etc, and the noise can go on till 11.30ish! Personally, I like the place, but it might not suite everyone.

Reviews about this place seem split, and its understandable.”
Large rooms, good wifi, pretty good location. Cockroaches, poor lighting, no mirror in the bathroom. Price compared to other areas of the philippines it would be a bad deal. But compared to prices around baguio it was one of the cheaper ones. All in all it was everything I needed and fairly comfortable. Staff cleared up a confusion on day one, and breakfast was basic but good (Hotdog, rice, egg coffee). I would stay there again, but not at peak season rates.

Exceptional”
Good value for money - the room was large, bathroom was clean, staff were friendly. Downstairs was a restaurant/bar/karaoke, which we enjoyed, as we rented the pool table for one hour for 100P. There was also a large outdoor area and a terrace upstairs, which were great for meeting people. It was a 10 minute walk into the centre of town, but we liked the location as it was quiet. Warning: the walk up to the hotel is short but steep! MUST TRY: THE SPOON & STONE RESTAURANT (Japanese fusion) just up the street from the hotel is FANTASTIC, very reasonably priced, and has a fabulous terrace!!!

Excellent”
We came at a time when bar and resto are being renovated so we didn't get to enjoy that plus their kitchen is not full functioning so breakfast options were really limited. There was also curfew because probably due to the renovation, they can't have somebody stay up after 12 midnight. But the room I was in is big (Mabini room)!! They can accommodate a family of 7 easily! It needs some updating though but in general, it provides a warm, old house feel. The staff are helpful and friendly.

Great place to stay”
For the price of accommodation inclusive of breakfast, you get value for your money. The room we occupied was spacious, no feeling of claustrophobia there. But the bathroom sink needs fixing, I think. There could be a leak from the pipes underneath which was why the bathroom floor was always wet.
