Excellent 2 night stay”
We stayed 2 nights in late September. Weather was still cold but the room was a comfortably warm retreat at the end of the day.. And heavenly electric blankets!! Clean compact area with all you need to self cater breakfasts so we didn't use the buffet continental breakfast but it looked adequate and well priced. Room was large with additional lounge seating, bed super comfy and bathroom spotless with great hot water, pressure and good towels. Location excellent for exploring on foot, they have off street parking if needed and several airport shuttle companies are door to door. Plenty of eating/drinking options close by for lunches or dinner. Reception area has additional seating if you need to wait after check out, lovely garden outlook . Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was our prime objective and this place delivers. The building has had several lives (one as a YWCA in days past) and older parts are not in use. Dunedin is a historical city and we felt that staying in a glass and chrome boutique hotel was out of character .. We were very pleased with our choice. I am a little unsure of the "4 star" rating in New Zealand but I would place it as 3.5 stars in Australia only because of the general age of the building. 4 stars for location, comfort, cleanliness and staff !! With all the above, we felt that 97 Motel Moray provided us with an excellent stay and the room rate was reasonable. We would use this property again .
Wonderful location, friendly service”
we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 97 motel moray, primarily because of the location. because of the location, we didn't need to use our rental car at all, which was safely parked in the carpark. the carpark seemed a little small and poky for the number of guests, as you wouldn't wish to park outside the motel, as there are parking meters, with very diligent inspectors in dunedin, here and all over town. within minutes we were able to walk to the main shopping and restaurant area of the city called the octagon, to the very famous railway station (for a half day train outing on the also famous gorge trip), to cadburys for a tour and also speights brewery for a tour. magnificent churches, arts centre, the university area and the beautiful botanic gardens were also within easy walking distance. the map provided by the tourism commission was a little misleading about how far the world's steepest street was away from the city centre, but we managed to walk out there, but were fortunate to get a ride back to the city by other foreign tourists climbing the street. our room was alway kept very clean, the bathroom was a little small, being added onto a corner of the room, but modern and clean. staff at reception were always very friendly and helpful with guides to restaurants, walks and highlights of the city available. a very pleasant stay, with definitely stay there again.
So handy”
97 motel moray was a perfect choice for us as it is right in the centre of dunedin, within walking distance to the railway station, restaurants etc. would stay there again. staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. large room with a stunning bathroom.
Motel Moray was quiet but in the City Centre”
We loved our stay at Motel Moray from our first greeting by a male and a female staff member, to a comfortable quiet room with kitchen facilities. And on one night after a day of touring, on a late return to the motel after 9pm the recommendation of the male staff member to walk down to the casino (short walk) for a meal. The food at the casino was excellent and not expensive - a great recommendation. Places to see Otago Peninsula wildlife tour, Larnach Castle, Taieri Gorge Railway, Baldwin St. Dunedin City Tour and shopping.
Very friendly service and comfortable bed”
we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who made us feel welcome. the room was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. the motel is within walking distance to the main part of town and near many restaurants. there's a great freshly roasted coffee shop across the road a short stroll from the motel.
Dunedin Stay”
Stayed on advice of a friend, well worth it, motel central to Octagon, City Centre with restaurants and bars within walking distant. Free parking which in itself well worth it. Defo recommend
Tip-top service from a great motel”
The room was good, it was neat and tidy. Everything that you need during travel will be available. No real downside to this motel but i wish to highlight something here, during my stay there, i accidentally left my ipad in the room when i checked out. We went for sightseeing around the town and we returned back to the hotel to get to our car that is still parked there. My mom-in-law went inside to use the washroom and the motel employee approach us and said we left our ipad in the room and we didn't even notice it. So happy to know that honest people still exist, faith in humanity is restored =)
nice location but a little bit noisy”
nice location, just few mins walk distance to city center. bad soundproof ,noisy from outside when weekend and footsteps sound from 2nd floor.
Good Location”
Booked by chance - this will head all reviews from our NZ tour. This at first glance seems out of the way but nothing is further from the truth. quiet location but only a few minutes walk from many eating venues and shopping area. Easy access and plenty of car spaces available. Would stay again and very recommendable.
Very close to city center, clean and basic”
my feeling of this place is mixed. the location is excellent, such a short walk to the octagon and other attractions around town. the check in staffs are friendly and helpful. room is large and clean. however, this place isn't without its shares of problems. the walls are thin, noise from neighbor can be heard clearly, which affected my sleep. heating in room is mediocre. the internet, being reasonably priced, has an unstable connection in the room, i fond it connects better when the door is opened, which is not practical. the guest laundry is a sham, oth light bulb missing, clothe dryer not functioning, and all the clothe lines occupied by students, little did i realize they run a student dorm on third floor. so there u have it, this is a glamorized student accommodation done up as motel for travelers. but still, for the price,, and if one can look past the negative points, this can be a feasible choice.
Convenient and comfortable accommodation ”
It was really an enjoyable stay, location is in the heart of city, right within walking distance to the Octagon. The WIFI is very affordable at 2GB for NZD 3. Lots of food around the vicinity. Highly recommended. Room was really big and spacious, although slightly dated. The bathroom is one third the size of the room.
Highly recommended ”
Arrived around 11 & asked to leave car (free city parking) but was given immediate access to a spacious room with kitchenette & a harbour view. Short walk to the Octagon, restaurants & shops. Lack of free wifi the only downside but it's free within the Octagon. Would happily stay again.
Good”
Out of date. I guess it's typical of Dunedin. Felt like an old hospital converted to a hotel in the early 80's. Parking was scarce. Would try somewhere else next time.
great location but room was a bit run down”
We stayed only one night. The city center was all within walking distance. For one to two nights - good value for money but don't expect a high standard. The property is old.
Highly Recommended”
Excellent in all respects I would definitely recommend it. A continental buffet breakfast was available at a great price. Plenty of restaurants in the area too.
Great Central Location”
Friendly staff, easy onsite parking, breakfast optional and priced right. We have stayed here several times, we'll be back again.
Q Birthday Treat”
This was perfect for our needs, very convenient to town movie theatre, restaurants, meridian and many many great shops. Staff were friendly. We didn't require a lot of room as we were all adults and out most of the day. Maybe a bigger tv with more options for viewing would be good. Cheers M
Exceptional”
The breakfast deal is outstanding and the staff super friendly and helpful!
