“Appalling Customer Service”
The location is great. It’s right next to a great cinema and several dining options. When the weather is nice, walking around the canal is worthwhile. It’s also a short walk away from high street and train stations. That being said, I was incredibly frustrated with the level of customer service I received - or rather I did not receive - from the staff. I arrived with my partner, soaking wet, with 2 huge trunks in tow. The hotel had closed their lower ground entrance which customarily received guests who alight from the designated drop off point. We were told to go around the block, despite the heavy rain and strong winds without any assistance whatsoever. Upon arrival at the reception, we were then informed that the lifts were all broken, with no TAT for when they would be fixed. We were then informed that we were expected to hand carry our luggage to our room which was located on the 3rd floor. We asked for assistance, and was promptly rejected. “No one will be able to assist you.” They offered us complimentary drinks “for the inconvenience”, which we declined. We didn’t need drinks. We needed someone to help carry our trunks to the 3rd floor! We carried the bags. I had an asthma attack. I called for assistance and was just told that there was nothing they could do. I asked for a manager, and was told no one was on shift. I was informed that someone would get back to me the next day. We stayed there for 4 nights but no one ever checked up on us, or apologised, or offered any iota of compassion. And to put the cherry on top, our room had a wasp. We were given another room on the same floor after we requested for one. I expected so much more for a Marriott hotel.
