Superb facilities but a few minor issues”

We had a truly wonderful stay at the Westin in Mauritius. I would highly recommend the hotel to any traveler - be they families, couples or groups of friends staying together. We unfortunately had to wait until after 17h00 to access our room at check-in, for an unexplained reason. This was only a minor frustration as we were happy to explore the facilities. We were unable to sign any drinks to our room though, although the trustworthy barman understood this and allowed us to return later to sign for our two drinks. My biggest complaint revolves around a simple lack of communication. As we arrived on 31 Jan, we asked about any special New Year's Eve dinner (Agoda had not informed us of this). We were told by the lady at reception that this was Rs2000 per person. We asked if this was over and above the Half Board that we had paid for. She said yes. I then called the restaurant directly from my room to confirm this and the price was repeated at Rs2000. We thus had an embarrassing shock when we received the bill after dinner, for Rs4000 pp. The restaurant manager then told us that the meal was Rs6000 and because we were on HB we had to pay an additional Rs4000 a head. We signed and went to the Hotel Manager the next morning who told us that the price was in fact Rs4000 pp. Very frustrating and three different stories. If we had known in advance this would not have been an issue at all. I also had some difficulty getting assistance with my SPG membership which I had hoped that the staff would have been better trained on. Overall, I would without any hesitation recommend the Westin. It is pricey but still delivers value for money. The food was superb (especially on NYE!), and overall our experience exceeded our expectations. Can't wait to return.

Family holiday”

It's a well designed hotel with interesting spaces & lots of outdoors but the beach is man made and disappointing. The hotel is a great location if one wants to be in close proximity of Grand Bay, SSR Botanical Park or Port Louis part of Mauritius. But it is quite remote from other more touristy spots of the south & eastern part of the island & that's important since local cab travel is quite exoensive. It's also far removed from any nearby local markets or restaurants thus eating out is never an option. However, the spa & other water based activities are a pleasurable & fun.

The Westin-Singing their Praises”

Overall very satisfied with our stay at the Westin with absolutely nothing to complain about. Location was superb, with this being our first time to the North West of the Island. Staff offered the legendary Mauritian friendliness, warmth and hospitality. Special mention for Fadil who went out of his way to ensure we had an awesome stay. Also Kishan at Concierge was very helpful. Lastly our room left us very impressed being regular travellers around the world the room with its large bathroom, outside shower and spacious dressing area definitely impressed on us. All round, one of the best hotels we have stayed in!!!

Wonderful experience”

I book "Deluxe Suite" because the website introduced "guests enjoy exclusive access to our Westin Executive Club Lounge facilities", but when we arrived, we soon realized the lounge does not open yet.

Convention HQ Hotel”

The hotel is quite isolated out of the main town, which is great if you are a couple or family that just wants to sit around the pool or beach all day, but as a solo/business traveller it is not a good place to stay. The rooms are very nice as you would expect from a Westin Hotel. The included breakfast was very good and all you could eat from a good variety of foods. The cost of a taxi from the hotel to the main town is a rip off because they know you have no other way of getting there, (and the hotel staff are in on the scam, they get a cut from the taxi driver for calling them) while the cost from the city to the hotel is one third to a quarter because you have the choice of many taxis. It is a case of bargaining because their are no meters in the taxis. Same travelling from the airport and back. You can travel from the city to the airport for one third what is cost to get from the airport.

Disappointing”

Extremely expensive for the performance. There are many hotels on the coast of Mauritius where one can get just as well or better for half the price

Great Escape”

As a solo traveller, the Westin provided accommodating and safe facilities. There was always a staff member available to answer questions. The pool was amazing and the coastal beach lounges allowed beautiful views. The taxi fare (2500-3000 rupees) to the airport was excessive.

The perfect way to spend my birthday”

I can't say enough about this location and the staff. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure I had the best birthday at their location. I was offered a very nice paid upgrade with amazing views, it was well worth it. I was surprised to be invited to a nice dinner set up on the beach, a small birthday cake, and a fruit basket when I returned to my room. The staff at all levels (Welcome, dining, entertainment, etc) were all friendly and very professional. I truly felt like royalty!! This was one of the best birthday vacations in a long time. I will be returning.

It doesn't get much better”

Of the hundreds of 5 star hotels we've lived in, this makes the top 5 list. Service is fit for an emperor!!! Great luxury atmosphere. Airy and light rooms. Great sunsets!

Very good”

Westin is w good location. But the facilities are pretty old. The buffet restaurant actually doesn't have a variety of choices. No big surprise.

best suited for those who want to stay in the hotel compound...not enough activities to do..hotels don't help with the excursion trips outside...staff also not that helpful to assist you...always giving curt answers and dont go out of their way to give info...
