We had a wonderful stay at the Royal St Andrews Hotel in Port Alfred. Good location, wonderful staff (shout out to Zozo!), delicious breakfasts, luxurious rooms and beautiful grounds Would love to go back

The stay was quite blissful and memorable. ”

This hotel is the best around Port Alfred. However, the only challenge was transportation around the area. R50 is the std price around the area. Airport trans was R800. Transport is monopolized. We’ve spent a fortune. Initially we booked for a room with a shower. Later we send several requests for the one with a bathtub. Upon arrival we were charged additional R1200 for an upgrade. The hotel failed to respond to all our enquiries. Their communicatio was vital because we could have planned differently. Also, they need to be flexible with early check ins and breakfast rules. In overall, the management was able resolve all our issues. The rooms are clean and very classy. We didn’t want to get out of bed. Champagne breakfast was all. Any meal that we had was scrumptious. We enjoyed our evenings sitting next to a cosy fireplace while sipping wine. We were spoilt with daily complimentary Amarula and biscuits. The staff was friendly, respectful and responsive.

Christmas break”

We stayed at the Royal St Andrews Hotel for 2 days during the Christmas holidays. We had a pleasant stay and most of the staff were friendly and professional. The breakfasts were truly delicious. We visited the hotel pub twice due to its convenient proximity and I must say both times we were disappointed in the quality of the service. The food was good though which made up for it. The wifi in our room was very slow and basically unusable. The room was nice and big though and well equipped. Overall we were satisfied (but not blown away) by this hotel.

Wonderful Hotel”

Overall one of the nicer hotels we found on our trip across South Africa. The room is stunning and very well made up. Very clean and nicely updated. Breakfast is also very nice. We did not make use of the spa or golf facilities, but these are also available if that's you're thing. The location is very nice - about a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the beach, but there are no beach views. The only issue we had (which was very minor) was that the doors seem quite heavy and require a good shove to open/close which can lead to some door slamming. Overall a wonderful spot with top notch facilities and staff.

Expected more for the price paid and special room booked”

I the honeymoon suite, but after been given our room, we realized that it was not the honeymoon suite, but a room R1500 cheaper. Although the room was lovely, it was not what I paid for and asked for. It was my husband's birthday and I wanted to spoil him. When I complained I was told that the honeymoon suite was occupied. I insisted that I book weeks before and already paid for that room and the services that come with it. We were eventually moved to the honeymoon room. I insisted again that I book a suite and expect a suite. They then unlocked another door which lead to what I suppose is a family unit, as it had a couch bed and an extra bathroom. We were happy to accept that and got the promised wine delivered to the room. We received a turn down service with a glass of liqueur each and a chocolate next to the bed. Things were looking up, but the next evening, none of these services were provided; no chocolate etc. No mention was ever made to congratulate my husband.

Staff members are very friendly, they even decorated my room nicely with balloons and birthday wishes.....they even sang for me at the reception.

The Royal St Andrews hotel team is commended for going above and beyond their call of duty in providing gracious hospitality to our family of 4 (incl. 2 kids aged 4 and 9, respectively) during our one night stay in July 2022. There is a long list of evidence in our experience and I would like to highlight the following: Welcoming and prompt response of reception staff in making sure that our needs are catered for and swiftly resolving our issue with water (5 stars). Fresh, clean, crisp linen and beautifully decorated spacious bedrooms with friendly, helpful assistance to accommodate our busy boys on their own beds. Wide selection of scrumptious breakfast options to choose from in an aesthetically pleasing setting. Extremely friendly and helpful staff at the Paper Nautilus from the host (Lindiwe) and all the support staff (Nomse...) that accommodated us and especially our busy 4yr old to create a comfortable environment that allowed us to enjoy our scrumptious breakfast (5 starts - food selection and staff). Dedicated, access controlled play area with a wide range of age appropriate activities (X-box games, reading nook, toys etc.) under supervision that allowed us to just unwind while the kids are having a blast. Premium location, directly opposite the golf course that enticed my avid golfing hubby and boys to strongly consider coming back for an extended stay while I intend on exploring their spa options (5 stars). This is an absolute gem in the sunshine coast and we intend on coming back (one of the best on our list). We liked the room, the restaurant, the pub. The staff was friendly and helpful. Only the breakfast and the breakfast room did not meet our expectations.

Only thing I didn't like in my room there was no bath tub and microwave and the white pleather that makes you dirt if you sit on it and one more thing no activities apart from that everything else was good.

Great hotel and spa close to beach and obviously gold curse across the road.Facility is spotless and we had a very enjoyable meal at Thistle rest ,whilst breakfast is great (with lots of champers) and not forgetting about the Highlander pub - great atmosphere , great food , great rugby. Friendly staff all round and will definitly recommend this hotel and spa with its lovely gardens and pool.
