Staff is very unfriendly and no helpful. They just gave us key and then say nothing when we were checked in. Come on are we looks like know everything about this hostel? The staff didn't speak much English that is fine but please try use google translator or something help your customer not just say I don't speak English and then play your phone. Also one thing is we are from Taiwan not from China. I don't know what the stuff problem about checked someones passport and then cell their manager said this two guys from China and didn't want to let us check in. IT IS SUPER RUDE!! just imagine someone do this to you!!

Lovely cottages, beautifully furnished, a bit far ”
mae sai is a border town for those wishing to see a little bit of tachilek, myanmar, but there's absolutely nothing to do here. the "shopping" to be had is more like window shopping from market stalls; the jades are plentiful though once you'ce crossed over from mae sai to tachilek. but mae sai is a dead town, the northernmost city of thailand. it is a pleasure then to have to stay in after glow resort, touted as the "only" boutique hotel in chiangrai. it isn't, in fact right across the street is another boutique hotel (mekong delta boutique hotel). i was surprised to get a cottage within the after glow hostel compound, situated at the back of the front building, designed like a resort. my cottage had glazed finish, turning out surprisingly sophisticated. it is well designed; everything looks new: cable lg tv, split type ac, ref, beautiful shower room with warm water. loved the interiors. after 4 or 5pm, i just stayed at the lobby and outside where there are benches and tables facing the street. songthaews and buses stop service from 4-5 pm onwards. the only activity to be had is the smattering of karaoke bars and restaurants nearby. a block from after glow is a petrol station with a 7-11, so that occupied an hour of my time. crossing the street (main highway leading to the border) reveals restaurants and a few massage parlors. i didn't experience the disturbing karaoke frolic and auditory assault i read several times in the comments of other guests. guess i was lucky or the karaoke revelers had a day off? the staff is attentive, and the hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but there are several choices in the vicinity. the hostel is also a bit far from the main mae sai town, situated at the border. it's too far to walk to the hustle of the border village.

Lovely hostel, simple yet comfortable”
the room only cost us about rm 50 which is half the price of all the other hotels we stayed in throughout our trip. the room was not big but a decent size and although it is called a hostel it had an attached bathroom. ventilation in the bathroom was not so good so it had a slight smell but the smell did not seep into the bedroom so it was fine. the compound was full of flowers. the design was simple yet we found it homey and very comfortable. located near the border of mae sai and tachilek, it was really convenient. there is also a night bazaar nearby the border.

Loved my experience at afterglow ”
i was very pleasantly surprised by the excellence of the afterglow hotel. the staff were so kind and helpful, the environment is pleasant and inviting, the hotel itself is beautiful, and it was such an affordable price. the afterglow should probably not be considered a hostel, it's far too clean and dependable for that title - it is a pleasant, small, affordable hotel. i would highly recommend it for anyone interested in staying in or around mae sai.

Fairly comfortable stay on outskirts of Mae Sai”
Located on Phaholyothin Highway slightly more than three kilometres short of the border crossing to Tachilek in Burma, the After Glow Hostel is just a short stroll from restaurants or from a place to get a massage. The presence of two or three other hotels nearby is the reason for the supporting food and entertainment resources -- including a karaoke restaurant next door that can be heard from After Glow's bungalows. Fortunately the singing in the evenings was not too loud and wasn't a problem when it was time to sleep. The accommodation is in a cluster of bungalows behind the hostel's main building where the breakfast restaurant is also located and ample parking space is provided. All rooms are finished in polished raw cement which gives the initial impression that the resort is under construction. But this is just the distinctive decorative style whereby the walls, both inside and outside the rooms and breakfast restaurant, are in varying shades of cement-grey. The rooms lack a refrigerator but otherwise have hot water, a/c and a large television with a fair choice of channels to watch. Our double bed was large but the management had neglected to remove the plastic cover from the mattress which, despite a sheet between us and the plastic, gave the bed a slightly-uncomfortable and slippery feel. The next morning, we asked one of the staff members if the plastic could be removed, but all we got back was a smile and a shake of the head. All in all, the After Glow Hostel is a fairly comfortable place for a stop-over in Mae Sai, and better if you have your own car since the border crossing (possibly the main attraction of the town) is 3.3 km away.

fantastic place - great price”
staying in mae sai was a pleasant surprise, and i'm happy i accidentally booked it thinking it was in chiang rai city. afterglow is 10 minutes away from the myanmar border, so my mom and i got to go to the other side for a day! service is great, staff very nice and helpful. i definitely recommend it though renting a car would be a good idea.

Chic style hostel”
after glow hostel is quite nice in terms of location, contemporary and chic style/decoration and friendly reception and staff. anyway, it is not very cozy & private as it is located near to pub or bar which is very noisy and loudly late at night. it's quite trouble if you want real relaxation when you go to sleep. breakfast is not much various and taste is fair which is suitable for a price/night. also, you will get discount at a restaurant named anantapura restaurant when you refer that you are suggested to try food here from this hostel. overall is fair for you to stay 1-2 nights in order to continue your traveling to other places.

Good service, but noisy karaoke next door”
pros ---- 1. execellent service. the staff was very responsive. 2. clean rooms and reasonable rates. the decor was a nice change from your typical budget thai hotel room. 3. easy access from the main road, though a bit far from the border and the main shopping area. cons ---- 1. my main gripe is the karaoke bar next door. it was open past midnight. the singers were very drunk and very noisy. i asked to be moved to another room, and the staff was very obliging, but the karaoke was still loud enough to keep me from sleeping. also, there were roosters nearby in the morning, so altogether, i think i got 3-4 hours of sleep. 2. no in-room wi-fi. you must go to the lobby area if you want to use the wi-fi. 3. breakfast was unremarkable "american" fare and the portions were very small. verdict: overall, this place was just okay, the main problem being the karaoke bar next door. there are better choices in mae sai for people who want a quiet place to stay.

Nice hotel only 20 minutes walk from the Mae Sai Border crossing. Free wifi. Set back from the maiin street so it's quiet. I paid a little more for a room with a fridge. Aircon worked well. The shower was nice and hot. The reakfast was ok. Coffee, juice, fried eggs cooked for you, local suasages and toast.

Basic, clean, and nice cottage”
The cottages are in a pleasant and quiet garden area. Basic rooms, very clean with no bugs at all, and have everything you need including hot shower, toiletries, bottled water, TV, towels, clean sheets, etc. The location is fine; it's not near the border but there are some casual restaurants, 7-11, ATM, and some bars nearby. The lobby has good wifi and comfortable couches to relax on. Maybe a little pricey for what you get, but there aren't so many cheap places in Mae Sai that you can book ahead.

simply great design”
our stay was short but wonderful. the hostel design really made my visit to maesai more complete. there was only one draw back- our room 305 was too noisy from the music next door. but again we could not really expect double glacing window for the price of the room. as for its location, not bad.

Really nice modern hotel. ”
We loved this place. It is more like a modern posh hotel then a hostel. The owner bent over back words for us to help get our motorcycle fixed because it was a holiday and everything was closed. Really really nice guy!
