Aida Hotel in San Francisco, California is good for people who wants to explore the city. It’s located along market street and is very near to any attractions in the city. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Good location & value for money & friendly staff”
The location is great and the staff at check-in is friendly and the process is very smooth. The hotel although basic, has met our needs. Most notable is that the bed is clean and comfortable. The hotel provides basic things like soap and clean towels. If you need other amenities, it is best you bring them with you as you travel.
We arrived really early after an overnight bus and the Manager was kind enough to let us check in early so we could shower and even offered us the basic breakfast and coffee which was lovely. This place is charmingly outdated but for the price and location it was great. Public transport to and from the airport is easy from just outside. Good location in San Francisco and for those who mention the homeless population in reviews that is everywhere in San Francisco. We felt safe and secure here. The manager was great and has a wicked sense of humor. I would definitely stay here again.
The hotel is cheap, there is a reason. It's as vintage as it gets, and nothing hides this in the rooms. However it is clean on the average. Staff does what you expect from, yes you have to leave the key when you leave. There's renovation going on in the hall, hopefully for the best. The position is quite good.
Good for sleeping only with Great shower & toilet. Helpful and kind staffs.”
We only stayed 1 night with very late night check in. The hotel lobby and lift is quaint and quite good. The room was just enough to sleep and u don't want to stay too long in it. Its not dirty but just a bit old and I am sensitive to he smell. The shared shower room is GREAT AND CLEAN. I've used them twice and they're always dry and empty even though only 2 shower room and 2 toilet per floor. Overall, I think the 62usd per night was really worth it. They give 1 donut per person in the morning 7 to 9am which is great. The hot water next to the lobby is useful because I was sick and had to make some herbal drink for my throat. There's coffee too but I didn't try. The hotel was actually quite quiet although once or twice I heard a car honk sound but it didn't bother me. The bed was comfortable with soap and shampoo, no toothbrush and no toothpaste. The cupboard had some very basic and used hangers but they're good enough for me. LG TV channels not smart TV of course.
Perfect exploring position”
Out of 3 hotels we stayed in, this was perfect. Not pretentious, but all the staff were lovely and the location was ideal for theatre, city centre etc. And had the most comfortable beds of the week! Although classed as a slightly scary area ( and we were worried before our stay), I would stay here every time now. There is a homelessness problem, just as there is in every city, but the route back to the hotel was safe as it was on wide, busy Market Street. Plus there's a subway stop 1 min away. Perfect!
Great Hotel in a Terrible Place”
The hotel itself is just what it needs to be. A taste of old-fashioned San Francisco that feels just like when it was built. The area it is in I was constantly told is "The absolute worst part of the Tenderloin", and our group did indeed discover to never walk around after dark as a party of one. Go here as a group and stay as a group, but do indeed stay!
Worth trying for the style but not a safe neighborhood”
Intensive and authentic vintage style, every detail's containing the aesthetic taste of the owner. Was told the property has a history of over a hundred years. Staff extremely kind and helpful, showing us alternatives when we felt like to changing to a private-bath-room. Free coffee and water 24/7. Free donuts in the morning. Rooms are aged but well-cleaned. Haven't seen an old fashioned cube TV in ages! And it is still functional! Shared restrooms and bathrooms are clean but rather small and have no windows for air circulation. However it matches the price - among the cheapest logging spots in SF. The only thing bothered me was the location. The neighborhood is marked as "no-go-zone" by local people (I didn't know it before going). There are drug addicts and beggars like every ten steps. Avoid going out late! Will recommend to bold and adventurous friends but not conservative ones or girls.
Quaint authenticity over modern sterility ”
Loved the character of this place. The wall-to-wall-to-ceiling-to-floor carpeting in the little elevator; actual key-keys; nice big windows; small group of friendly staff; great wall art; great colorful pointy chairs in the hallways; little trees in the stairwell. Great vibes. For people who prefer ma and pop corner store to Whole Foods. Thrift/vintage > plastic/generic. Excellent location. Shout out to Mehdi holding it down in the lobby.
Once the problem with a duplicate reservation was solved, we had a very nice stay at this hotel. Its location can't be beat, and the coffee and tea always available was welcomed, as was the doughnut selection every morning! Staff was friendly and helpful. For the price and central location it's very good value and we would definitely stay again.
Very Old, but very clean”
An old property, very clean and tidy, the staff are very nice and helpful, my room was about a third of the way down the corridor and there was street noise and the windows rattled. There was coffee, tea and donuts for breakfast and tea and Coffee all day. It was different leaving the key everytime I left the hotel, but they accepted no visitors and I felt secure staying there, the shared shower facilities were not a problem
An economical hotel with character and friendly staff”
Was here for a couple of days and really enjoyed my stay. My room type was 'Double with Private Bathroom'. This hotel isn't the ritz and nor is it trying to be. Considering the good location, price point (I couldn't find anything comparable with a private bathroom for the dates and location) - I thought this hotel was excellent value. I also found that the "dated" furniture and decor really added to the historical feel of the hotel. The Chandeliers, Old Juke Boxes and Bedside tables with built-in radios were verging on kitsch. My room was clean and recently 'renovated' - the carpet and bathroom floors didn't seem more that a couple of years old. Breakfast was a humble but friendly offering of donuts and coffee. Again, more than one might have expected from a modest hotel (donuts were really tasty and fresh). The bad: there is a high concentration of socially disadvantaged people evident on the sidewalks outside. This is a common theme for San Francisco, but felt particularly concentrated around the area. People were asking for money and some shouted abuse (usually directed at themselves). Keep your eyes on the ground and continue walking onwards. For the hotel itself - the televisions seemed pointless. Dated and although technically functional - they didn't seem capable of receiving any watchable stations. Might as well get ride of them.
Will definitely return here.”
The staff is one of the asset of this hotel - they are courteous, helpful and knows their job. The location as well is one worthy reason to stay at this hotel. I will not have second doubts in coming back to this hotel.
book room with private bath”
very convenient location. Free tea, coffee and doughnut in the morning.
Very good location. ”
I kept some change coins about 20 pieces (USD 10 cents) in the room and lost it. "Please make up the room or Do not Disturb" badges were not their in the door lock after the first day. It was not there in the whole floor (5th). Therefore, house keeping has cleaned rooms even if I don't want to do so. Therefore, only option is not to keep any valuable thing in the room. This could be a trck by the cleaner. Oldest person in recep. desk is very helpful. He can't even walk properly due to the age but was very kind. Next Oldest person about (60 years) shouted people to go back to another hotel when they try to negotiate. And he asked me also to goto another hotel when I ask additional day to stay at the same booked rate. If he is not the owner of this hotel, he should be replaced. All the other staff are great. Nothing special in this hotel other than value for money. Breakfast is Donutes. Tea and Cofee available 24 hours which is best.
Location is the worst”
This hotel is extremely out dated and definitely needs to be remodeled. But I can still live with the fact that it’s old, what absolutely destroyed things for us is that this is located in the heart of slums. There are drug addicts and homeless people everywhere, you feel extremely unsafe as these people tend to be very crazy. There is a CVS right next to the hotel and we personally experienced a woman shop lifting who was extremely drugged up and was arrested.
Expect a bit of a dormitory vibe, but unlike a hostel its all private rooms. ”
I needed a place in a pinch, and it was everything I needed (roof, bed, shower). I might avoid in super hot weather (only way to cool the room was to open the window), but during spring/fall it fit the bill just fine. Hotel has a lot of character. It's clearly not a 4 star, but if you have simple needs go for it.
Lovely place ”
A very nice place, central to all touristy areas and thoughtfull touches (free tea and coffee 24/7 and doughnuts in the morning). We were allowed to check in early as our room was ready which was a massive bonus after a long overnight flight. Haven’t experienced that in a long time most hotels stick to their allocated check in time even though a room may be ready. Will definitely stay again when back in SF.
We were happy”
We spent a comfortable night .We came early and they were so helpful , we took our room at 7:00 and we ate dounts. The room was clean and the bedrooms were close enough . Out side the hotel is another world ! The police said to us not to walk at night and we should take taxi not a bus!
Very poor like no internet connection”
They do have their wifi, but it's like never working. Had hard time to check emails even I just had to use my mobile data, which costs me like a lot. And it's poor cell signals over there too. If you are a kind of online person. Dont stay there. Oh, their shared bathrooms are tiny, and the water's like dripping. And having a few homeless people wandering outside the building right downstairs. I would say it is an affordable place in SF, but definitely not for family trips for sure.
