Excellent hotel for transit at OR Tambo Airport!”
I stayed here two nights in May, each stay separated about 1-2 weeks apart. I chose this hotel due to proximity to airport for easy transit, and it did not disappoint! This hotel offers all of the same services of the airport hotels which charge a rate 2-3 times higher. Airport Inn Bed and Breakfast (also known as Emerald Guesthouse) is located about 6km away from the airport, or 10 mins by shuttle. The hotel provides a free shuttle service to and from OR Tambo International Airport, at scheduled times from 05:00 – 23:00. The shuttles depart on the hour, and will arrive to pickup passengers at the terminal 5-10 minutes after the hour (so don't be concerned/worried if the shuttle isn't there on the hour, just hang tight a few minutes and it will arrive). The pick-up and drop-off points are very clearly detailed - from the bus terminal area behind the Intercontinental Hotel, accessed by a passenger walkway between the car park and the Intercontinental Hotel as you exit Terminal A arrivals. It took me all of 5-8 minutes to walk there upon exiting the terminal. The white mini van is clearly marked "Airport Inn / Emerald" shuttle - you can't miss it! Upon arrival, staff will record which shuttle you wish to take back to the airport the following day. What a great service! Check-in was efficient, I was checked in and shown to my room in a matter of minutes, which I appreciated after another long day of travel! Rooms were basic but had every thing you could need for a good night's rest. The bed was comfortable, there were extra blankets provided for chilly evenings, the pillows were comfortable and there was a heating board affixed to the wall (though I couldn't figure out how this worked). I slept very well! The noise of the planes overhead did not wake me, I slept through the night. The bathroom has a njce layout! Nice big modern toilet, and a large walk-in shower. The water temperature and pressure were both in good working order! Two fresh towels and a hand towel were also provided, along with a small bottle of body gel. I don't recall there being a bar of soap, but it's possible this was just missed by housekeeping. No big deal! The room was functional in layout. There was a small writing desk, a chair, a tall wooden cabinet for luggage storage with hangers and an electronic safe within. Also in the room was a flatscreen television with many international (English) news and entertainment channels, an electric kettle with tea and coffee making supplies (instant coffee, tea bags, sugar, non dairy creamer). Wifi was secure, password protected and the signal was very strong in the room! The staff were brilliant! Very responsive to emails, professional and courteous. Always willing to accommodate the needs of guests. Although breakfast starts at 7am, the staff arranged for me to have breakfast at 6:30am, so I could catch the 7am shuttle. This was very kind and very much appreciated! You are asked about your breakfast order at check-in. You can choose to have some or all of the following: 2 fried eggs, 2 slices of bacon, 1 sausage, baked beans, tomatoes, and 2 slices of white or whole wheat bread. There are cold cereals, yogurts, butter and jams and coffee also available in the morning. It was excellent and a nice way to start my day! I had already eaten supper, but you can also dine at the hotel's restaurant. The menu had a few different choices like macaroni and cheese, chicken with rice and veggies, beef curry stew etc. all for a very reasonable cost (around 110-150 R per dish). They also sell cold drinks and alcoholic beverages. Luggage storage is offered for 25 R per day, from what I saw. I believe they also offer same day or overnight laundry service, flat rate the cost of a basket. I didn't see the cost. I was in transit so I really didn't get to explore the grounds, but the garden looked really nice and I believe there is a pool on site also! Great little bed and breakfast! Definitely would stay here again! P.S.

I had an overnight layover and booked this place based on the rave reviews and free shuttle. It did not disappoint. For the price, this place is phenomenal! When you book, you will receive directions for where to meet the free shuttle. I was unsure how easy it would be to find so I requested a private pick-up. Communication about this was poor so I did not receive it. I am so glad because the location of the shuttle is impossible to miss and was steps away from the airport arrivals hall. The driver comes every hour and arrived at 6:05 pm. By using the free shuttle I saved myself a bit of money. Additionally, the staff upon arrival were extremely warm and friendly. All of the food is made to order and you choose your specific breakfast items just after checking in. l loved this. For such an inexpensive place, I was also surprised by how high-quality (but inexpensive) the food was. I ordered pork with rice and vegetables for dinner and it was phenomenal-- just like the flavorful meats South Africa is so famous for. I stayed on the left side of a little two room cottage. My room was cute and homey with a modern bathroom and shower. There were clean towels, a small bottle of body wash, hot water, and wifi. My one and only complaint is that, though the place was very empty, another customer was booked for the room right next to mine in the two person cottage, and you could hear everything-- when they turned the TV off and on, when they opened their suitcase, and when they left in the early morning for departure. This did make it challenging to fall asleep. Overall though, I was very pleasantly surprised by this gem of a location and would stay here again in a pinch.

This is an excellent and affordable option for travellers in between flights. They offer a free airport shuttle that is on time and convenient which picked us up when we landed and dropped us off at the airport. The room itself is quiet basic, but clean and sufficient. It was hot so I requested a fan and was provided with one. They have a laundry facility where I managed to iron my clothes, you could also wash and dry if you need to. The place looks well kept and the staff are very helpful, courteous and responsive. Also had a restaurant where we had dinner - generous portions at affordable prices. We left super early so they provided a free packed breakfast. The shower takes some getting used to as one has to wait for the gas to heat it up and the pressure was quiet low but after some trial and error we figured it out. All in all I would definitely recommend them.

The Free hourly Shuttle service to and from the Airport is very good, you don't have to deal with Taxi drivers. Staff are very helpful, they have a restaurant with reasonable prices and good food. Breakfast is free. The rooms are comfortable, no soap or shampoo provided. The property is huge with good security and parking.

The Airport Inn is close to the airport and makes it very convenient for one night stay. They have a shuttle service from airport and back. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are clean and bed was good. Breakfast was good. Will use it again if connecting flight is not available.
