Handy base in Tokyo”

Location, amenities

We enjoyed our stay. The room we booked was small, but that's just Tokyo. The Granbell is more like a business hotel and not in the style of flashier hotels in the area however I preferred the Granbell as it was smaller (no having to navigate around large tour groups or wait ages for an elevator) very close to the akasaka mitsuke train station (2 min walk) and very handily located in the commercial akasaka dining / entertainment district. The staff spoke good English and our double room was provided with all amenities except iron / ironing board. I would not recommend the smaller rooms (I.e. Double rooms) to anyone with mobility issues. The included breakfast of bread, cereal and coffee / tea was also quite handy.

Small hotel but has more than enough”

Great location, new, friendly staff, free breakfast

A nicely designed boutique hotel. Rooms are on the small side, but that's expected for Tokyo. Although the rooms are small, it has everything you need in them! The location is also a plus - a mere 2 min walk from the akasaka-mitsuke station (a connecting station to most major lines in Tokyo). The hotel is also very quiet at night which was nice as it's not located on the Main Street but a smaller street behind. Overall, I was very pleased with my stay. Would definitely stay here if I visit Tokyo again!.

Great location”

Visited Tokyo many times. I liked this hotel a lot for its value and prioximity to all the action. It's in the middle of all the major spots in Tokyo. I'd definitely pick this hotel again in my next trip. The only downside is that it can be a bit noisy at night as there are many clubs and bars in akasaka.

Location is uncriticisng incredicable, just a short straight walking distance from subway to hotel. Lots of good restaurant and the overall environment is safe. Premium double room is way better than just double room. Hotel staff are helpful and friendly. Providing with unlimited bottle water makes a great different and tremendous convenience. Business Stay”

Comfortable, good accessibility and rain showers

Great location, very near major metro stations of Akasaka-Mitsuoka & Akasaka. Small room as is expected from any rooms in Tokyo, but all amenities a business traveller needs: Wifi, fast ethernet, working table and lamp, multiple hangers for suits (with a handy-dandy spray for freshening up your suits too!). Toilet is a self-contained wonder, with the basic toothbrush/shaver/facewash/shampoo/conditioner/body wash/hair clips/tie (for the ladies) and other stuff that you'd never think to pack, but are happy to see present. Water is unlimited, just grab any amounts of bottles when you come in and leave. Food options are pretty good with plenty of bars, pubs, local restaurants where salarymen come in to grab food or beer available just within 5 minutes. TV Channels are pretty limited, with me wishing they had a foreign news service channel at the very least. Surprisingly with all the bars around the area, noise is never a factor and the beds are great for a good nights' sleep.

A surprisingly good hotel with spacious room”

I have stayed in the Akasaka Mitsuke area almost every time I come to Japan, which is almost every year for the last ten. I usually stay at Tokyu Excel and Centurion. This has them both beat for the size and beauty of the bathroom/Shower. Just a light continental breakfast in the lobby (bread, cereal and coffee) but who needs a big breakfast. The value for what you can get in Tokyo is great.

Great stay in Akasaka”

Pros: Location: couldn’t be more convenient to explore Tokyo or just hangout in the direct area around the hotel Free water in lobby: it’s so convenient to grab water going to and from your room. There’s a complimentary light breakfast of breads and cereal. Can take it or leave it, but it’s nice as an option Free Handy: free cell phone with decent data plan to use in Tokyo. Great to access Google Maps, browse the internet, look things up etc Rooms: small (like all of these hotels), but extremely comfortable bed and pillows, nice bathroom, safe in room, thermostat Staff: friendly, passable English

Room was spacious. Travelled solo, but room will fit two people fine, unless you have many pieces of luggage. 5 min walk from Akasaka-Mitsuke station. There are many eateries around the hotel. Only thing, they should incorporate a full-length mirror in the hotel room, and staff are not very proficient in English. Otherwise, no complaints at all.

New hotel with large bathroom; shower & bathtub separate but without partition. Toilet in separate cubicle ( French style) n wash basin outside of toilet with enuf standing room. Room is bigger than usual Tokyo standard. Daily simple breakfast of cereals, coffee n tea at lobby from 7 to 11 am. U can bring back to room to consume. Abundant bottle water (chilled) at lobby level FOC for guests. Cons: most are smoking rooms. So if u are very sensitive to cigarette smell, insist on non smoking at time of booking. Don’t accept smoking rooms being sprayed to minimise odour as curtains absorb all the smell n it is nasty!

My first impression of the hotel wasn't great actually. I had arrived early in the morning to check in, but I forgot the check-in timing was in the afternoon. An old man attending to me wasn't exactly very polite when he told me the check-in timing was in the afternoon. Perhaps he was having a bad day? I don't know. The other staff members were somewhat more friendly though. The hotel can be a little hard to find as the signages are not exactly the most prominent. However, it is still somewhat near a train station, and the surrounding areas are quiet enough. The room was quite impressive though. It came with a huge humidifier - something which was essential in the dry winters of Tokyo! Not all hotels I went to in the city had one - so that was a good thing. There is even a lean compact machine to press your trousers nicely. What I really liked about the hotel is it's huge safe box. It is discreetly hidden below the hangers, and it was surprisingly large enough to fit my laptop and A4 documents. There is even utensils and a microwave oven provided in the room! The toilet also has a bar for you to hang your clothes dry if you need to, and it's much more spacious than the other hotels that I stayed in. The shower gel and shampoo provided looks decent and not one of those cheap small bottled ones you find elsewhere. The design was quite exceptional I must say. Space is utilized very well for the rooms.

Small hotel, close to subway with elevator/escalator connected to ground level!”

We stayed at the largest room (27 sq m) for 5 nights, very decent size in Tokyo standard. Hotel is very small and clean you’ll get most of the basic stuff you need. Free flow of bottled water, tea bags & coffee at the lobby throughout the day. Breakfast means light breakfast only serving mini pastries and cereal, so don’t expect the buffet type. 3-4 minutes away from Akasaka Mitsuke station. Loads of restaurants around the hotel but most of them closed on Sunday. And don’t be faked by the photo of the hotel door front, it is located on a one-way street only. Likely to return in my next visit.

Excellent Location & Great Value!”

I’m familiar with Tokyo so I knew the location should be convenient with 2 major subway lines within walking distance. Turned out it is even more convenient than I thought - only 1.5 min walk from subway exit. The area is very lively with lots of food choices, convenience stores and bars around. The hotel itself offers great value with free continental breakfast and free drinks throughout the day. Yes rooms are small as expected, but clean and comfy. Recommended.

The perfect hotel for a solo stylish traveler.”

Great room design for space efficiency.

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous for being a small hotel with small rooms. I love the modern design of the bathrooms with fixtures that you would find in a nice high end hotel and the bed is so comfortable. The staff is friendly and speak English well. There is a constant supply of bottled water and high quality loose-leaf teas in the lobby. There is a complimentary breakfast in the mornings which is a buffet of breads, cereals, soups and coffee/juices. It is very basic, but a nice option to have. Otherwise there are plenty of restaurants right at the doorstep. Excellent sushi or noodle restaurants. There is also an oyster bar, wine bar, pizza place and two 24 hr convenience stores. The road just outside the hotel doors is very small with little cars but enough people, even at late hours, to feel safe. In fact, there is a very happy vibe on this street. You can take a limousine bus from the airport to the Excel Hotel about a 5 minute walk away. The subway is a 1-2min walk away. My only complaint would be that on sunny days, it seems that the bathroom towels are air-dried and sometimes they have a slight smell to them that is not as fresh as if they were placed in a dryer. Overall I highly recommend this hotel.

Convenient boutique hotel”

Location

Our stay was made better with the convenience of this hotel to the stations 'Akasaka Mitsuke' and 'Akasaka'. Also, there were many eating joints around the hotel as well as a Don Quijote and BIC Camera behind that made shopping for snacks and tax-free electronics all that easier. At the time we were staying, they were undergoing the final touches of construction works in the hotel and although it could get a bit messy at times, our sleep was not disturbed. However, after staying 2 nights at the hotel, both my bf and I got rashes on our backs and arms (not a lot but enough) and the bites were similar to those of bed bugs. The room was small but looked clean when we stepped in.
