Beautiful”
Place to stay is very nice and also people there are great. The owner of this hotel is also the owner of Akha River House in the city of Chiang Rai. If you need change one night, for example because you have morning flight or any other reason, there is no problem. They will help you. I recommend.

Amazing view”
Really nice, but don't expect super fancy anything, The food is good, they pick you up and drop you off in Chiang Rai and the view is amazing. There is a lot to do in the area, and it is run by members of the Akha hill tribe. The other guests I met there were the friendliest out of all of my travels in Thailand.

Simple hotel in beautiful location”
Basic accomodation in amazing location. definitely worth visiting if you like nature. Stay at least 2 nights, as the "free transport" is only free at 4:30pm there and back to Chiang Rai at 9AM, so if you go one night you won't have time to do much. I wish this was clearly stated on their Agoda Information. We booked a bamboo fan room. It was very basic with a fairly hard bed with springs poking through, but similar to other $10 budget rooms in Thailand. I doubt anyone goes to the AKha house for luxury, and its comfortable enough for a short stay. Great view from our porch! Food was well priced considering the remote location.

SO AMAZING. An authentic stay in a beautiful village in the jungle ”
Don’t let the bad reviews keep you from going!! We almost didn’t go because the rating is pretty low, but it was truly one of the most beautiful experiences in my life. You are surrounded by a breathtaking jungle in the hills, and the kindest people you will ever meet. There’s a waterfall nearby youcan cool off at, and when you sleep you can hear the jungle outside breathing and alive. The hut was very clean, had mosquito nets, fast wifi, great food, and the porch had an overlooking view of the jungle hills surrounding us— it made me cry the first night it was so beautiful. Only con, is it is pretty rural; 45 min drive away, and tricky to call cabs or grabs from up there, so I recommend making a deal ahead of time with a grab driver to pick u up when u want to leave. Please go visit this beautiful hidden gem, you won’t regret it!!

Wonderful people. ”
I wish we had more time with the akha hilltribe. The people were lovely. The food was great. It's exactly as it looks in the photos. This isn't a 5 star hotel but if you're looking for an authentic experience with locals and beautiful views - this is the spot. I can't wait to go back.

Real Thai Hill Experience ”
our stay at the akha hill house felt very authentic! we did a wonderful day trek through the hills and enjoyed the stars from our balcony at night. the beds are hard like the rest of thailand and it is fairly remote. if you want to be in town and looking around don't stay here. if you want a few nights away from town, then stay here!

Great Stay!”
Quiet hill top oasis just outside of Chiang Rai. Great base for multi-day treks or casual walks to the local waterfall and hot springs. I throughly enjoyed my stay in VIP Bungalow #4!!

The only place to stay in Chiang rai”
The best place to stay when in Chiang rai. A truly fantastic and original experience. A location you will find nowhere else. With healthy and very tasty a la carte food. And inexpensive. Always a fire burning and cold beer in the fridge. Loved the self service aspect. Warm and friendly staff. Beautiful views and places to visit in easy and fair walking distance. A magical environment.

A nice escape from the city ”
We had a pleasant few days in the Akha Hill House Hostel. The driver picked us up from the old bus station and drove us the 20km to the hostel. When we checked into the roo we were a bit surprised as the room was very basic considering we booked the "VIP room" (it is just a bed and the bathroom). However the private balcony has an amazing view of the hills which made up for the room (there were two plastic chairs and a tree stump table). The food was very good and the staff seemed very friendly, although conversation was difficult sometimes.

Beautiful place out in the jungle”
We wanted to check in early and get some hiking in on the first day of our stay, so rather than wait until 4:30pm to catch the free shuttle, we chartered a songthaew for 600 Baht for 4 people. I think we got a pretty decent deal on the ride, because this place was pretty far outside of town, and up past a few hilltribe villages. We were able to get some lunch and check into our rooms early. The food is fine, and the prices are certainly reasonable, but they seemed to be lacking some flavor after eating so much tasty street food. There is a pretty awesome waterfall about a 15 min hike away. You can also hike to a hot spring which happens to be in Thailand's first National Park, and that takes about 45mins to get to as you pass through a few other hilltribe villages on the way. We only had one night to spend at the hill house, so we weren't able to go on any organized treks or get further afield, but we had a great time.

Amazing Location makes up for basic amenities”
Arrived just after a massive storm, no power and only candles provided. Basic Accommodation, very rustic, but friendly and helpful hill tribe people (very little English spoken). The amazing outlook cancels out any little inconveniences. The gradient of the roads and tracks is formidable, but not impossible if you are prepared to take your time - possibly not suitable for trekking unless you are fit (Or younger than 70!!) Adequate air conditioning, hot water and mosquito nets. Transport to and from Chaing Rai every morning and evening if required, but this is an hour's journey - much better to just sit and admire the unbelieveable view. Don't miss this one!!!

What a quiet night.”
I am a repeater. Last time air condition was out of order. This time it was amended. Bed matress was properly changed. Last time it was very old to sleep confortably. I would repeat my visit Appe Hill Hotel next year. One thing I would like to request is house cleaning periodically at least once a day. No house keeping neuther cleaning was provided during my 5 days-stay. Other than the house keeping issues everything OK. See you next time. Bye. Chisato

New Years”
The hill house is just that, a bungalow style room built from the local bamboo and materials. Pretty close to nature, sometimes too close, like the giant Dinosaur lizard that lives in P1. Enjoy.

Secluded and authentic”
This is great for anyone looking to get off the beaten track, away from the busy city and to experience beautiful nature and authentic village life. The location is gorgeous, with great places to visit within walking distance. The locals are amazing, and the food is decent and well priced (60 baht or so for a meal)

Great location, horrible hotel ”
The location is amazing, but the hotel is infested with bugs (over 60 bugs were living in our room). The AC barely works, half the time it blows warm humid air making the room way hotter/ humid than outside (extremely hard to sleep in a sauna with bugs crawling on your face). Finding the hotel - The hotel is on google maps (even it showed us the days we booked) one location is in the middle of a field 30min away from the actual location, second is in Chiang rai at a place that we could not locate, third is on the travel websites, none of the 3 are where the hotel is located. After 7+ hrs on a motorbike we rode around an extra 4 hrs going to each location, (we called them numerous times with no clear answer of where the place was besides "look up a water fall and we are there" then finally getting directions from a local. Staff- Some of the staff was helpful the rest don't care you exist and are too lazy or occupied with their phone to help. Don't mind those? You'll love the place!

The Views”
Even though we visit at the low season we had a great time. The views were fantastic for the prices in the P bungalows. A fan room is fine for all times of the year as the weather in the mountains is much cooler than the cities.

Terrible place!”
We stayed at this place one night before we did the 2D/1N trek. The area around Chiang Rai was amazing, and trekking there was good. However, our experience with this company - and especially the 'Hotel' was not good. The management of this place was really bad - most staff didn't speak English, and they were not helpful at all. We did not feel relaxed and safe at this place. You get up in the mountains to get away from the noise and stress of the city. But there was so much noice from non-stop fireworks and shooting. Small kids were plaing with fireworks between the bungalows and the restaurant area, and it was far from save to walk to and from the rooms. The shooting went on until late at night and started again around 5am. The staff in the restaurant is the most inefficient ever experienced. We waited 45 minutes for our breakfast (which was fruit salad, scrambled eggs and other quickly made items) - even though there was only another few customers in the restaurant. The trek itself lacked information at a frustrating level. There was no information about the trek neither before or during the trek. The guides did not seem to care about the nature and the environment at all. One of the guides was constantly smoking and threw his cigarette buts everytwhere. One of the guides spoke a little bit English but had only done this tour one time before, so she didn't know where we were going etc. The other guide only spoke Thai. He talked a lot - but there was nobody in the group that could speak Thai, so there was no translation. We assumed that the second guide (who did't know the trek but at least spoke some English) was supposed to translate what he said. But that didn't happen. She kept telling us that there was about one hour left of the trek - for 4 hours. We were told only to bring one bottle of water, as water would be provided. However, there was no water (or any option to buy some) from we left the camp in the morning till we finished in the afternoon.

Amazing location for a chilled few days.”
Amazing location and views. Staff and villagers were really lovely. Bed sheets could have been a little cleaner, but you're in the jungle, so you can't expect to much anyway. Hot water in the bathroom. Food was great. Try the vegetables with Aka chilli sauce! Would recommend!

Excellent”
Stunning stay. Secluded, rural location. Perfect for exploring local villages and trekking the hillside. Owner is very friendly and helpful but best visit during peak season when staff are fully prepared and all facilities available/clean.
