Alcala Motor Lodge Dunedin provides not just a budget stay but also a convenient location for a great vacation in this part of New Zealand. The hotel is close to Dunedin's business center, as well as several local attractions such as the Botanic Gardens and the Otago Museum. Other attractions includes the Cadbury's factory and the Speights Brewery tours. Several fast food joints are less than 500 meters from the hotel, making it easy to grab a bite if you are in a hurry. A complimentary washer and dryer, coffee, while a 24 hour convenience store is located just across the road. Alcala Motor Lodge Dunedin provides an excellent base given its location, which puts guests within walking distance to many of the city's attractions. While there are many choices for accommodations in this area, Alcala Motor Lodge Dunedin offers the best mix of comfort, convenience, service, and great value for money.

Internal is big size and clean. External need to do a bit of sweeping and cleaning up, cigarette butts found on staircase. Laundry facility is available and is free, soap powder is $1. Overall is value for money
A pleasant place to stay closed to town”
Very nice and comfortable room. Interesting layout inside attracts our children. Only staircase available when living at 2nd Floor, you need strong arms to carry your baggage.
Nice family room for friends and family”
I booked a family room to share with 4 friends travel together. The family room is great and comfortable dinner area and good cooking facilities. It is not easy to find this type of room with such a good location (not too far away from city center) and facilties.
Big room comfortable bed convenience store across the road short walk to shops and restaurants. We were on the top floor so if you have alot of luggage or big heavy bags this is not for you as there is no elevator. It's hard to get a wifi signal on the top floor so use your own data is easier.
Right in the city centre”
The location of the motel is their main strength. It situated right in the city and within walking distance to restaurants and major attractions. The furnishing is a little old and the set up of the room is open concept. Staff is helpful.
Reasonably priced, but old and tired looking”
It was so-so, okay for the price I guess. The fixtures and carpet in the motel is due for a change. They are old and tired looking. The shower know is also a bit of a challenge to work. Unlikely that I would stay there again as the Reception did not even make us feel welcomed. It was very transactional. Cut and dry.
We stayed here on a previous trip, & will stay here again if passing through Dunedin. The layout of the room was well thought out with doors to close off the kitchen from the living room area. The whole area was spacious.
Idealy situated to the universty for graduation”
It was ideal as we were in Dunedin for a grandaughter's graduation from Otago University two blocks away. Only niggle was some light bulbs out and no spares available. We would definitely use it again if the occasion ever arose.
Pleasant place to stay with friendly staff”
Due to an illness in the family it ended up being me and my three young boys spending two nights in Dunedin alone. The accommodation and location were great though and made the holiday easy and enjoyable. The staff were very helpful and very nice when we had a bit of an incident with a hot chocolate and the carpet. The only thing I didn't like was that the water in the tap was extremely hot and could've been dangerous with the kids.
good location, good service, and excellet motel”
The room is big and clean with well equipped kitchen, free laundry, and easy parking area, stuff is very helpful and caring, will go all out to make your stay comfortable, petrol station and supermarket just across the road, town centre just 5 minutes walk, with lots of good restaurants in the area, econo motel is highly recommended.
Great spot to rest for the night”
great place to stay. friendly and efficient staff and excellent location. we had a room with a mezanine floor for our friend. still able to have a bit of privacy. well stocked room/kitchen/bathroom. highly recommend.
Great location and lovely hotel”
In general, the motel was great. Free wireless internet was provided but sometimes the same userid/account was given to more than one guest resulting in conflicts and disconnections. I understand that the owner is trying to fully utilize the usage of each account, but he should work out a better way. It was extremely annoying to be disconnected and having to reconnect again repeatedly, and I'm sure the other guest was facing the annoyance as I was.
Dunedin is a nice and beautiful city to visit. The lodge is clean and within walking distance to city centre. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The amenities are a bit old and might need some updating. Overall it is a reasonable value for money lodge for a short overnight stay.
Good location, near CBD, shopping, etc.”
We were givin a famil apartment type room that was really great and felt at home, plenty of space for more persons comfortable and clean. Shopping and many restaraunts withing walking district and CBD.
everywhere i usually stay in dunedin was booked out and was therefore "forced" into seeking accommodation with a higher price tag than i usually do. given this, i then expected more than what i usually receive, and i was not at all disappointed. in fact, i would very definitely return again, despite a higher than normal (for me) tariff. speaking of tariff, however, do check very carefully what you are being actually charged against what the motel is offering. i found the agency through which i booked (on line), had misquoted the actual tariff by 50%, so i spent a great deal more than was expected. despite the expense, the motel is absolute value for money, particularly if you get an upstairs spa studio. when i first arrived, the roadside sign announced it as an “econo lodge”. having stayed in many of these while travelling in the united states, the room (which is actually a series of rooms) was very well furnished with a leather lounge suite (all recliners), very stylish table and chairs, mobile television set and queen size bed (amongst other items). adding to the unique atmosphere was a loft bedroom (a first (and wonderful) experience for me). the unit also had a balcony, as well as a separate bathroom and toilet. the bathroom (which is separated from the toilet has an enormous spa bath, from which you can soak and watch television at the same time. now that (for me anyway) is luxury. the guest information booklet is also very informative. there is a 24 hour general supplies shop right across the road, but dunedin’s main shopping centre is a mere 10 minutes’ walk away, where retail outlets and restaurants abound. it may take a great deal longer, therefore, than ten minutes to reach the city centre given the many diversions you are likely to make.
Always enjoy stay here”
Very close to a wonderful Thai restaurant. The owner is such a lovely man - always makes me feel welcome.
Have a good short stay! nice room! ease of access located in the city centre!
Great place and location”
Really enjoyed our stay in Dunedin. Alcala was an excellent place for our family and we really appreciated the space and the free laundry facilities! The location and facilities worked great for us.
Awesome facility’s and walking distance to town, thank you very much...
