The hotel and location is fine and the beach lovely, we went down to the beach bar just after 6 to get a drink as the sun was going down, lovely bar area and plenty of people eating and drinking! As we were making our way towards the beach and very grumpy waiter demanded that we go back in the other direction to the hotel bar and that we couldn’t go to the beach!? Rather perplexed seeing plenty of people around at the beach bar we continued on and said that we would like to go for a walk on the beach which we did, past all the other people happily eating and drinking at the Amal beach bar, we took a 10/15 minute walk and came back to the bar afyer asking again if we could get a drink staying that other people were sitting and drinking, once again the waiter very abrubtly and rudely told us no and demanded we go back to the main hotel. Quite upset we went back to the main bar and told another waiter who just shrugged his shoulders! Not a good experience on our last night...such a shame!

Good hotel at the beach”
Pro: nice, spacious and clean rooms, lovely beach, nice food, friendly staff, well organised tours. They really look after the property. Con: lots of waves, maybe not perfect for small children. All extras ( tours, drinks etc) are quite pricey. I had some money disappearing out of the safe, told management. They reacted understanding, but obviously I could not proof it and they could not do anything. Overall we enjoyed our stay a lot, the issue with the money was a bit of a downer... after the incident I had may purse with me all the time.

Pros, Great beach that is decorated and kitted excellently. The young man who attends to your comfort does an excellent job, as do the bar staff. The rooms are very clean, air conditioned and fresh. The restaurants and staff are fantastic. Cons, Some people may be annoyed with the local train that runs by up to about 9pm and starting again early morning, but it didn’t bother us and I liked it.

Good and Bad”
The first thing that struck me was the friendliness of the staff and how clean the place was. The beach is a short walk away across the train track which ran right next to the hotel. Something that is quiet unusual. The food at the restaurant was pretty good. The steaks were good. What was disappointing was the range of local food. Although wifi was available, the speed was just as good as not having it. The best time to get the wifi is at about 5am in the morning. Overall, Amal was a pretty good place to stay and quiet.

Very pleasant stay at this hotel. Although right next to the railway line, which added a bit of character to the place, although they start early in morning (5am!) and go past till late. But this didn't spoil our stay there. As with all other hotels we stayed at, they cater for westerners and do not serve the local Sri Lankan breakfast unless you order it and that means they buy it from out so not made fresh which is a shame. Nonetheless, the breakfasts were overly substantial, and could do with asking guests what they want as there was a lot of wastage. Overall we had a lovely 3 nite stay

Wir waren über Neujahr im wunderschönen Amal Beach Hotel für 7 Nächte. Mit der Sauberkeit, dem ausgezeichnetem Essen und mit der schönen Hotelanlage waren wir sehr zufrieden. Leider müssen wir in Bereich Personal nur 1 Punkt vergeben. Also wir am ersten Tag ankamen probierten wir den Safe aus und funktionierte wunderbar, am nächsten Tag nach dem Strand bemerkten wir dass unser Safe sich nicht mehr öffnen lies da jmd die Combinationen falsch eingegeben hatte, dadurch ging dann unser Code überhaupt nicht mehr, nach dem Öffnen mit Hilfe der Chefin bemerkten wir sofort dass uns 70 € im Safe gefehlt haben, ich zähle ja immer das Geld und wusste ganz genau wie viel im Safe drinnen gelegen waren bevor wir wieder am Strand gegangen sind. Das Ende vom Lied war, das komischerweise danach der Safe einwandfrei funktioniert hatte und sogar am ersten Tag. Nur am zweiten Tag wurde der Safe durch jmd anderen geöffnet.
