Positive Points Many of the staff are polite and kind. There are also several foreign staff members who work hard to assist inbound tourists, and I feel very happy that they are learning Japanese. The facility's lounge is very comfortable, and the drinks and sweets are delicious. Both those who drink alcohol and those who do not can enjoy it. There is a souvenir shop where you can purchase crafts, as well as souvenirs from the Myoban Onsen and local specialties from Oita. The breakfast buffet has a wide variety of items and is creatively arranged. If you stay for two days, you could probably try everything. The rooms are clean and spacious. The in-room outdoor hot spring bath was also spacious enough. The on-site bar has a good atmosphere, and you can encounter rare whiskies. The bartender can not only discuss drinks but also local recommendations for shops and hot springs, making it enjoyable to hear about local stories. I also ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail; while the sweet options were delicious, they skillfully made the bitter (non-sweet) ones as well. Points of Concern (not necessarily negative) When you search for the arrival route on Google, the route from Beppu Station requires a U-turn at a place with no right turn, so caution is needed. Upon arrival, since I had a lot of luggage, a large cart was provided for unloading, but there was a risk of luggage falling and the cart almost colliding with the car (which a fellow passenger prevented). I would feel more secure if there were preventive measures, such as male staff assisting with the amount of luggage and the size of the cart. Along the same lines, when the cart was drifting towards the car, another staff member, who was afraid of a flying insect, was closest to the cart but did not respond even though the staff member with the cart was asking for help. As a result, a fellow passenger panicked and held onto the cart. The hotel pillows were not as good as expected given the grade of the hotel. I believe that improving the quality of the pillows a bit more would enhance the comfort level. Even considering the points of concern, there were more positive aspects, and overall, it was a satisfying stay. If the points of concern are improved, it would lead to an even more comfortable stay. Thank you very much.
I took my parents, a group of five, to check in. First, I want to praise the front desk service. When we checked in, there was a very attentive Japanese gentleman (sorry I forgot to note his name) who welcomed us warmly and explained everything clearly. Upon leaving, there was a girl who looked like a foreigner who actively offered assistance in hailing a taxi. The staff at this hotel are all very friendly and excellent. The hotel facilities and rooms are very beautiful and outstanding. The hotel offers lounge service from 1430 to 1800, with excellent light snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages available. Enjoying the view of the sea/garden from the lounge is very delightful. The large public bath (located in the nearby Amane Resort SEIKAI) is right by the sea, and soaking in the hot springs while listening to the waves is a great pleasure. The only drawback is that the location is not very convenient. The nearest JR station is about a 10-minute walk away (Beppu University Station), with no stairs, just a slight downhill. Taking the bus is slightly closer, but it may be a bit inconvenient if you have large luggage.
We traveled as a family of four with two young kids. The staff at Gahama are all exceptionally attentive and friendly. We loved the spacious room with the spectacular view, the lovely meals every morning and night, and the afternoon spread at the lounge was probably the kids’ favorite! The onsen has an ocean front view and cannot be missed either. Overall we are very happy with the stay and would be keen to come back.
The customer service attitude was lacking during check-in. The breakfast was quite excellent, but the male staff member responsible for the dumplings was very unpleasant. When I accidentally took out the dumpling lid, he glared at me for about three seconds, telling me not to touch it. When I told him not to glare at me, he glared again as if he was going to hit me. The breakfast menu was quite varied. The woman who makes the tamagoyaki was very skilled. The dessert melon was delicious. The onsen was excellent with private rooms available. The public onsen bath had a view of the sea, which was healing. The sulfur smell was mild. The room was spacious, the bed was large, and I was very satisfied. The convenience store is a five-minute walk away. This was a ryokan I would like to visit again.

“Recommended for family travelers.”
I recommend it for family travelers. I stayed at a mansion with an outdoor bath overlooking the sea. The two buildings are somewhat separate, so those staying in Gahama should pay attention to avoid getting confused when finding it. All the staff were friendly, and while waiting for check-in, they provided hot towels, which you can use to wash your hands while receiving explanations. The resort is larger than expected, so it might be nice to spend your time just at the resort without visiting surrounding attractions. There were a few negative reviews about the mansion type, but it was better than expected. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The first and second floors are separated by stairs, and there are bathrooms on both floors, but the shower facilities are on the first floor. The shower area connects to an outdoor space with a hot spring bath, but since it was summer, we couldn't see the sea. However, the sea can be clearly seen from the second-floor terrace, and smokers can smoke only on the terrace. Slippers and yukatas, which are also sold at the hotel shop, are provided, as well as eco-bags for use when moving to the public hot spring. The public hot spring is in a different building than Gahama, but you can comfortably move using a cart if desired. It is a bit inconvenient to walk. You can enjoy the public hot spring while looking at the sea, but as mentioned in some reviews, it doesn't seem very clean. When I visited, the men's bath was okay, but I heard there were hairs and dark floating particles in the women's bath. The breakfast had fewer Western-style options than expected, and the menu was mainly Japanese. The staff was very friendly during my stay, and although I didn't enjoy the public hot spring much, the view was fantastic. The tub in the room was great, and the lounge available for free use was also nice. I definitely plan to visit again at least once a year. Parking is free for guests, and parking spaces are provided for each room. There are also a 24-hour McDonald's and Don Quijote within a 10-minute distance from the hotel, so it might be worth considering. There are TVs and air conditioners installed in both the first and second-floor rooms, and there is also a TV in the living room. The refrigerator is not large, but it was great that there was ice prepared in a separate ice bucket inside the refrigerator upon check-in. Personally, many hotels have inconvenient outlet placements, but there were outlets by the bedside and several outlets in various places, which was convenient. I would like to visit again next time.
