another night at Amara”
it's new
while my friend decided to travel to Sangkhla, I wanted to stay in Kanchana another night, and as I was too lazy to move with my luggage, I decided to stay another night at Amara. To be fair, the second room we were given was much better than the completely faulty first room (despite being brand-new), but still the fact can not be denied that the rooms are extremely basic and actually too expensive for what you get by Thai provincial ("chonabot") standards

new, but barebones and faulty”
the caretaker lady was very friendly
we wanted to stay near the Bus station and this place fit the purpose. there is not much around but you can walk to the tourist strip in 15 minutes or so. this Thai-apartment style place is very new, but extremely basic and already faulty with what must be the poorest workmanship I have experienced in more than a decade of living in Asia. there is virtually nothing in the room except the home-made wooden bed, which didn't look sturdy and already had cracks, plus a small table and chair. no Cupboard, no fridge - this is the first Thai-apartment-style place I ever stayed that did not have a fridge. don't touch anything in the room as it may fall off the wall. In our first room the faucet was faulty and you could not stop the water from running. plus it made a very loud and weird noise, like a plane touching down. seriously. we went for dinner and when we came back it was still like that so we had to change room late at night. it had started bad as when we arrived we did not find anyone as this place has no reception. after a few minutes a door opened and the friendly caretaker lady received us. it turned out she and her daughter just live in one of the rooms. they did not have our reservation we made the evening before and had to call the owner who then finally could be bothered to check his/her mails. verdict: no good value for money, there are plenty of better places in town

nice and clean hotel in the heart of town”
clean, quiet, friendly
The Amara Morning provided us with just what we were looking for: a nice and clean place to sleep. The very friendly and helpful staff welcomed us with a warm smile and hearty chat. The whole building is new, and the rooms are kept spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable and all facilities worked smoothly as they should. Even though the hotel is in the heart of the city, it was surprisingly quiet. And although the hotel runs no restaurant, you can get some cold drinks – we even got a nice cup of coffee in the morning. All in all, a really nice place to stay if you are looking for a central budget hotel worth every Baht spent. We'd go back there for sure.
