Friendliest Hotel in kathmandu”
I was lucky enough to spend a four days at the Ambassador Garden Home in Thamel in Kathmandu, I had hundreds to choose from, and I feel lucky to have chosen the Ambassador Garden Home . This was a wonderful experience, it felt like I was staying with long time friends and I was made so welcome that it made my holiday. All my trips were organised by Nobi, my guide Diwaker was first class and new all the history of kathmandu, Laloo the driver was superb on the narrow steep mountain roads, Krishna had tea for me when I came back and Prakash was a star, when my camera was not working, he gave me his till mine was eventually fixed. What can you say to such marvellous hospitality and care. This is a Hotel for everyone. The rooms were tastefully decorated and the comfortable lounge area is full of family history, photographs and antiques from their grandfather's, who was an Ambassador for Nepal, own home. This hotel had a tranquil garden which in the middle of Thamel is a welcome retreat. I can recommend the Ambassador Garden Home, especially, to those who would appreciate the care and attention paid to guests.
Comfortable hotel in busy Thamel”
We stayed at the Ambassador Garden Home for two nights at the end of a two week tour of India and Nepal and found the majority previous reviews to be very accurate. Thamel is a very touristy and busy area which is both a blessing and a curse. Plenty of restaurants / internet cafes / taxis etc at your door step is a plus. Plenty of hawkers / hash peddlers / noise etc not so good. Kathmandu in general is a very noisy, busy and dirty place and I wouldn't recommend dwelling there for longer than necessary but staying at the AGH definitely helped alleviate any environmental stress endured. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and went out of their way to assist in anyway especially when I was struck down with the dreaded and almost inevitable "Delhi belly" . Breakfast is lovely and served in the eponymous garden which is a great place to chill with a cool drink whilst recouping for another assault on the Kathmandu sights. There is a supermarket opposite the hotel for any snacks or self catering needs which is very convenient. Room was tasteful and modern with a comfy bed and very hot water in the clean shower. The only two small downsides were the TV had only 3 local channels which is pretty useless (a bit of BBC world news or a movie channel is always a nice way to wind down at the end of the day.) and the rooms can get quite cold at night. This was counteracted by a sweet touch of AGH by providing hot water bottles at night. I loved this when I was riding the porcelain bus during the night. They also provide free internet access which was much appreciated. All in all Ambassador Garden Home is a class act that is successfully providing a quality, mid-priced boutique hotel experience and we were very satisfied with our pleasant stay.
My home away from home”
I stay at Ambassador Garden Home each time I travel to Kathmandu. On my earlier trips to Nepal I stayed elsewhere, but now I wouldn't think to stay anywhere else. The staff are all incredibly helpful and accommodating, and as a young female travelling on my own, I know they always look out for me. On each of my stays the internet has always been reliable and fast. AGH is located in central Thamel, surrounded by shops, restaurants and pubs. Most major Kathmandu attractions are only a short, but very interesting drive from AGH. They can help with arranging transport (air and road) to anywhere in Nepal, and can arrange all day activities, treks, etc. during your stay. I would recommend AGH to any traveller planning to visit Kathmandu - you wont be disappointed.
this is your home”
For my first stay in Kathmandu, I stayed 5 nights at Agh with my female friend. We looked for a clean and safe hotel, but obviously we got more than that--convienience, tranquility and heart-warming experiences. We arrived in midnight, and seeing our exhaust the owner let us go to bed before our check-in. The next morning we were surprised to see the great interior-- chic and bright! Our room had warm lighting, hemp blindshades by the window, from where we can see the beautiful, well-maitained garden. I loved the antique metal door locks matching black painted doors. Agh is located in a quiet corner in Thamel, the tourist area. Here there is no need to concern about finding good restaurants. There is a supermarket in front of the hotel which is open until late night, the biggest book store in the area is on the same street. Some other reviewers have claimed noise from a nearby night club, but we didnt have problems sleeping. In Thamel there are many clubs so I assume the noise is inevitable. In fact, Agh does not face the road so traffic noises were rather reliefed. Since this hotel has only 18 rooms, we got to know everybody working here, and every staff was professional with great hospitality and charming personality. The manager especially took good care of us, he called taxis and booked flight and bus tickets for us. Everything reserved by him turned out to be great. We enjoyed Kathmandu so much we often "got home" late, but the gate was guarded so it was safe, and we could find our keys kept on a table. Our delighting stay at Agh had absolutely enriched our experiences at Kathmandu. We hope to be back again.
An oasis and the friendliest staff in Nepal”
We came in and out of Kathmandu several times, and stayed at 3 different hotels. Ambassador Garden Hotel was our favourite by far. A true Boutique Hotel, it has family heritage items on display, and lovely B & W photos. The room was compact, but just so cosy, and little touches meant a lot to the weary traveller! (Fruit basket, complimentary- yes complimentary mini bar). The courtyard and eating area is just so peaceful and relaxing, that it was a nice oasis to come in form the hustle and bustle of Thamel. Books and magazines to read , baskets of candy in the lobby, and computers to use. The staff seems so relaxed and friendly, and the breakfast was beautifully cooked. Definitely recommend., and offered much more than we expected for the price.
Very pleasant hotel with wonderful staff”
we had a very wonderful time in ambassador, the staff was very pleasant and smiley, breakfast was good and very enjoyable in the nice garden behind the house. of course the hotel is right in the middle of kathmandu thamel so still noisy at night (till midnight), mostly during deepavali ! we had a room on the street the first night and that was a bit too noisy (again it was nepali's new year so do not know how it is generally), but the staff was very accommodating and moved us to a garden room from the second night, it was very pleasant and so comfortable ! we really loved our stay there. the manager is very friendly and was always here to greet us for breakfast.. just feels like a gorgeous & comfortable home in the middle of the busy thamel. very appreciable.
Home away from Home”
We recently stayed at the Ambassador Garden Home and enjoyed excellent service and a wonderful "home away from home." We especially enjoyed the staff in the dining area and the reception staff that were always friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were great. This is a good place that is right in the middle of everything (Thamel), but still gives you a break from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. Especially nice was 24 hour electricity (lots of hot water) and free Wi-Fi which are not "givens" when visiting Nepal.
Comfly little hotel”
We enjoyed our stay in Ambassador garden home very much. The staff were absolutely helpful and friendly. They upgrade our room for the first night which is nice but actually adding extra hassle that we don't need as we have to move to another room the next early morning when all we need is just dozing off. The breakfast is nice however a little bit too dry as they fried everything with full strength. my advice just pick any breakfast that doesn't include frying. We stayed for the second time in this hotel because we like it. However the price is a bit steep compared to the other nice hotel in the area. the good thing is this hotel does not feels like a hotel, instead it is a home, and you can rest just like at home. the room is shady and comfy makes you doesn't feel like staying in an industrial hotel. The hotel staff was friendly enough to let us check out late on our second stay due to our flight from pokhara to Kathmandu got cancelled due to bad weather. the hotel was not flexible enough to allow us to stay until 9 pm when we were only arrived at 12 PM on the day we were supposed to check out already, however they allowed us to stay until 4 pm which was nice, given that we had already pay the full amount upfront one week before. A little bit disappointing, but that's fine.
The Best Choice in Thamel, Kathmandu”
We had a wonderful stay at the Ambassador Garden Home thanks to manager and his always smiling and helpful staff! Right on the main drag of Thamel, yet tucked far enough from the road and clubs to be a quiet and peaceful getaway, everything about our stay there was perfect: the beds are very comfortable and the rooms are toasty warm in the winter due to the heating/air con unit that you can set to your own preferred liking. Breakfasts are huge and great, featuring excellent organic french-pressed coffee, fresh squeezed mandarin orange juice, toast, eggs, hash brown potatoes and your choice of sausage or ham. Plus, they serve from something like 6:30 am to 11 am, so you will never feel rushed or on a schedule. The only thing I would change would be to add an extra outdoor heater in the morning in the winter, as it can get quite cold - especially for travelers from always hot places such as Singapore. Other than that, though there is not a thing I would change. The staff, as noted, were uniformly great (and make an excellent Nepali Tea - ask for it as your complimentary welcome drink!)So, overall, we would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
One of the best boutique hotel I have stayed at!”
We were extremely impressed with Ambassador Garden Home and even recommended to our travel agency! Although it is centrally located in the heart of Thamel, the environment was peaceful and quiet. The rooms are nicely decorated, staff members were super friendly, check in process was quick and smooth (even though we arrived rather early in the morning), beds were clean and very comfortable, instant hot water provided and the breakfast was amazing! We stayed at a different hotel in Thamel previously and the experience was terrible. Definitely glad that we found this hotel and will definitely recommend it to everybody.
It's my best experience ever!”
Such a very nice & pleasant stay. At first I just plan to stay for 2 nights then go to Pokhara for other trip and plan to take a different hotel after. But after Pokhara, I came back here and stay for more 3 nights. Foods are awesome and delicious, both for breakfast and food at the restaurant. The restaurant has the unique seat setup that you can put your legs down so you can sit for long time without feeling pain. Room is too much good and goes beyond expectation. Room service is fast and clean, whenever I put my tag for room cleaning, staff come and clean it within a blink. Staff are friendly and supportive, anything I need, they assist me on time and with adorable attitude, especially Rahul. He's my best man here in Nepal, Kathmandu. This is my second time in Nepal, but it is not the last time, one reason for me is Ambassador Garden Home. With Love! Trung Nguyen Tri 17/08/2019
Great place in a great location!”
If you're looking for somewhere to stay in the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu the Ambassador Garden Home is the perfect place to escape from it all and be in the centre of everything. They have a lovely garden area which is great to relax in after a days sightseeing or shopping with a lovely restaurant that does delicious food. I can highly recommend the chilli chicken with a Nepal Ice beer! Only downside is lots of stairs to get to rooms, but it's not a dealbreaker as I'd definitely stay here again. Staff are great and nothing is too much trouble. Very convenient and perfect to explore what Kathmandu has to offer!
Great location, very lovely hotel”
I have two nights staying in Ambassador Garden Home right before I left Nepal. They have the best location, at the center of Thamel. The hotel is very nice. I felt like went into someone home right after I stepped in their nice little lobby. They provide fruits and candies free for hotel guests in lobby too. Room, towels and bedding are all very nice and clean. Water also very hot all the time. I had used all their facilities as I stayed in their lobby for one whole day (i had my flight at mid-night), everything's perfect except their Wifi. Even they had tried very hard to improve it by adding 4 WiFi access points, but the signal still very poor.
Best Value For Money in 30 Years Of Travel”
I have been travelling for 30 years to all corners of the world including the best room in the top 5 star hotel in Kathmandu yet the Ambassador Garden Home was the best value hotel I have stayed in. Comfortable room with en suite toilet and shower. WiFi, TV and fridge and smack bang in the centre of town. To get this with Breakfast included for £27 for the night was amazing value for money but that wasn't even everything! There was a free Fruit Bowl and a Beer, Water and Fruit Juice in the fridge all on the house. Finally the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. They really did everything to help and make me feel valued.
Great hotel”
We stayed four nights in this very nice hotel which is conveniently located in the heart of bustling Thamel. The owners had completely renovated the former guesthouse from top to bottom offering 18 nicely decorated rooms. The small little terrace garden in the courtyard offers great local food specialities the whole day long and is a great and tranquille place to breath or read a book, just steps away from the noisy and busy streets of Thamel. The Deluxe rooms are spacious and cosy, offering over 100 TV channels, mini bar and a large and beautiful bathroom. The house used to belong to a former ambassador to Tibet. His grand son is now co-owner of this hotel and has turned it into a real beauty making you feel at home the first moment you arrive. There are also computers with internet access to be used, free of charge, in the lobby area. Apart from the great location, the nice setting and decoration, the staff is the real jewel of this place. Thanks to the staff, as you made our stay just perfect and unforgetable. We would definitively come back here.
Perfect”
This place was perfect for a short get away in thamel! After finishing 13 days of trekking it was great to sit back and relax at the ambassador garden home! Sit and have a beer with the manager or chill and watch movies in your room! This place really isn’t just a bed to sleep in. Aircon was great, steaming hot showers were amazing and there isn’t a single thing I’d fault about the hotel! (Oh maybe a squeak or two from the bed) Definitely recommend this place to stay whenever you are in thamel!!
Fantastic!”
I stayed at this beautiful boutique hotel before and after trekking the Annapurna. Thank you so much to Jeevan and the amazing staff at Ambassador Gardens Home. Above and beyond with their helpful manner. This boutique hotel in the heart of Thamel is beautiful, quiet, very clean and the staff pay great attention to detail. I highly recommend the Ambassador Gardens Home. Yvette from Western Australia
Ambassador Garden Home - Review of Stay.”
The location is right in the center of the town (Kalmel district) so you can walk the main sites of Kathmandu and this is a photography fantasy world of lane ways, people & history. Right in the heart for shopping and eating but once you enter the Ambassador Garden Home you are transported to a calm, cool, relaxing environment where you can sit in the garden sipping a refreshing drink and recover from the madness outside. The staff go out of the way to help, from arranging taxis, hints on walking around the city. The breakfast is great way to start the day at the hotel with a good range to suite most needs. Initially I stayed for 2 nights but decided to stay there on my return to Kathmandu for another 3 nights as it was great.
Friendly Nepal”
We haved traveled three of us and we have found most of the expectations from the Ambassador Garden Home. It small, traditional and very friendly hotel. Owner can help you to find good guides for your trips, his advices are very usefull. Price is quite reasonable. Standarts are realy acceptable with that price. Hotel is inside the city center but it is realy quite, which is realy surprising in city like Kathmandu. I recommend the Ambassador Garden Home.
closest thing to Nirvana in Thamel”
I just recently spent several days at the Ambassador Garden Home before and after the amazing trek through the Annapurna Circuit. Immediately you feel at home and treated honestly and invested in out of kindness and sincerity. The staff from the owners to the cooks and housekeepers were sweetness. They are aways improving things. You truly feel at home with sharing of the heirlooms and traditions and culture. Always going that extra mile and minute for you. The rooms are excellent whether Superior or Deluxe. They always pay attention to the smallest details. Kindness, cleanliness abounds. The garden is wonderful and relaxing. The other guests are wonderful also. Thanks for the opportunity for feedback, they truly made my first Nepalise experience heartwarning.
