Great location, clean and comfortable rooms”
This was my fourth time staying in this small budget guesthouse and I would not hesitate to return again. There are actually three separate buildings, Amber House, Amber Villa, and an annex. This time my room was in the annex across the street from Amber House. The rooms are simple but comfortable and have every amenity I needed including mini fridge, room safe, electric kettle, and free wifi. Breakfast is included with the price of the room and I was pleased with the selection of fresh fruit with musli and yogurt, various standard Western egg dishes, and fresh juice. The staff is super friendly and helpful and there are multiple tuk tuk drivers parked outside who can take you anywhere you’d like to visit. Great value for the money for a stay in Phnom Penh.

Very comfortable stay”
My stay at the Amber House was excellent. Location was great, lots of bars and restaurants in St 278, beautiful temples just around the corner, 15 min. walk to the riverside and the main sightseeing places, including the National Museum and the Royal Palace, close to the Central Market and the Night Market. The staff is very friendly and efficient, always ready to help or answer your questions. The fastest Wi-Fi I've had so far in Asia with very good signal. The room was spacious and quiet, Queen double bed, big wardrobe, nice clean bathroom, TV set and safe box inside the room. Cleaning and laundry service every day. Great choice of food for breakfast. I've got literally nothing to complain about. Great service and good value for money. I have recommended it already and will recommend it to anyone who's looking for a place to stay in Phnom Penh.
The stay was okay, but overpriced”
The stay was okay, the rooms at the back are big but not very clean and by night very noisy because another building is right in front of the window. i even could not close my window completely. overall i think it is overpriced, 20 usd per night would be okay. the rooms seem to be different, so the front rooms seem to be better according to some reviews here. so just try to get a room there because the back rooms are not that nice...
greedy unhelpful staff”
our stay at amber house was ruined by the staff who were really unhelpful, all they wanted to do was make extra money from you where they could. the room was fine (bathroom was tiny with a shower almost over the toilet!) but we really couldn't wait to leave because of the staff. it's a massive shame as if they were a bit more accommodating, our stay would have been far more pleasant.
We felt very welcomed and were very comfortable.”
Excellent. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. We don't like cities very much but this hotel sold the city to us
Large, clean rooms. Overall pleasant.”
This was my second time staying at Amber Guest House. The room was large and was the first place I stayed were I had a bathtub in the bathroom (bathtubs aren't in all rooms though, as I didn't have one last time I stayed here). Quiet neighborhood with nice restaurants.
Clean and comfortable rooms - Overall great stay! ”
I stayed here twice during my travels through Cambodia -both times were positive experiences. I had a larger bed (Queen or king sized), the hot shower was hot (not lukewarm), the decor was nicer than other guest houses I stayed at, the staff were friendly. The location is a nice neighborhood, the shops were little more expensive but with some good restaurants and bars. It's about 15-20 min walk or 2 minute (1$) motorcycle ride to downtown. The distance from the center hustle and bustle meant that it was calm and quiet at night.
Highly recommended guesthouse in Phnom Penh”
I have stayed here on two occasions and would choose nowhere else for future visits to Phnom Penh. Conveniently located, comfortable rooms, friendly and helpful staff, and excellent breakfast make Amber House/Villa an excellent choice for among the guesthouses in Phnom Penh.
A bit of a disappointment”
Problems started at check in. I arrived with my girlfriend to be told that the room t&c stated that I would only get one free breakfast. This was not stated clearly when booking. The room, though very large, was actually within the reception area which meant that all curtains had to be kept drawn to ensure any level of privacy. Room facilities appeared good; bed was large and quite comfy, large fridge, good sized bathroom and joy of joys, a bath! Unfortunately the bath plug did not work well which meant water drained out when you tried to run a bath. The shower was good however, with decent temperatures and pressure. The next morning we ordered breakfast for two. I went for a simple omelette, while my girlfriend chose a Khmer breakfast. When it arrived it was a total let down. My omelette was tiny, perhaps the smallest I have been served, and was plain with the ham etc on the side (surely adding to the omelette isn't that hard?) My gf's rice was way undercooked and had to be sent back. Even when done, she found it a total let down. The staff, especially at night, seem to spend their time out on the pavement playing cards so you often had to wait for any service. One minor good point is that they offer free laundry service for the first 5 items, quite handy for the weekend traveller. But overall I found the hotel a disappointment and not anywhere as good as is portrayed on its site. The casual attitude of staff, the way they treated my Khmer girlfriend (an accounting student and not a bar girl as they seemed to view her) and the truly awful food all add up to a 'do not return' decision. On an up side, the environs of the hotel seem to be filled with several good bars and restaurants, so I would look at that area again
An average hotel for Phnom Penh i guess”
My stay in Amber House was pretty average! The floor of my room was pretty cracked and the difference between a standard room and my "Superior King" seems to be that in my room was a cooking place with dishes AND a gas bottle for getting the cooking plates working! The shower took ages to get warm and the breakfast is like a la card and not very much (if you dont have breakfast included you would pay for that about 5$ and this is too much for what you will get!)
Great hotel in a great neighborhood”
There are many cheaper options in Phnom Penh, but if you don't mind paying $20-#30/night, you'll get your money's worth at the Amber House. This isn't a hotel so much as a variety of properties scattered over a city block. My room was located across the street from reception above a (very good) Italian restaurant. It was nicely decorated and equipped with a fridge, flatscreen TV and a very large balcony. The hotel wifi was outstanding as well - perhaps the best I've found at this price point. I loved the neighborhood as well. The Amber House is located in an upscale neighborhood full of villas and Western-friendly restaurants. Reception faces an Italian and Indian restaurant, both very good. There is also a great sports bar called Score around the block that has American treats like Makers Mark bourbon and buffalo chicken wings. Most importantly, this is not the seedy section of Phnom Penh. If you're trying to avoid the girly bars - and I most certainly was - then it's hard to do better than the neighborhood around the Amber House. My one constructive criticism is the hotel restaurant. The breakfast was just o.k. All three days the staff omitted the fruit that was supposed to come with my breakfast. That's not a big deal but an odd omission in a SE Asian hotel. And once I went in somewhat late (The breakfast finishes at 10:00. I arrived at 9:30) and had to wait five minutes before even laying eyes on a staff member. That said, the food is alright. I've traveled a lot in SE Asia, and the Amber House is one of the best hotels I've found at this price. I'll be back.
Nice gem on St 278”
I had room across the street. Rooms were modern and comfortable. Cleaning staff fast and helpful. Big windows. No view. Some rooms in main building have balconies.
Nice hotel with large room”
I received a quiet room with large bed. Staff was helpful and friendly. Definitely will stay there again next time. There are many restaurants near to this hotel. You should stay there whenever you come Cambodia.
Good Budget Hotel”
An excellent value for the budget traveler. Large and clean room with a big comfortable bed, a big flat screen tv, and an in-room safe. There is no lobby to speak of, but the staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast choices and taste could be improved. Location is great -- near excellent restaurants and bars. A short moto ride from shopping and the river front.
a lovely hotel, an amazing staff, safe”
I duly recommend this guesthouse/hotel the staff was amazing and very helpfull/carefull. this place is also very safe (i left a small luguage for 1 week for a trip to thailand) and they keep it in a safety room). it is also located in the heart of the city (tourism, nightlife). it is on the same street (golden street) that all the accomodation recommanded by these books are. it is nos recommended by lonely Planet or Guide du Routard but I assure that this plase worth to be known. and I assure you that i have absolutly no regrets to have book at Amber House.
Great location in heart of BKK1 in Phnom Penh”
We had the balcony room in the building across the road from the main hotel. This is a recently renovated building, so everything was pretty clean. Lots of restaurants within 2-3 mins walk - Indian, Japanese, Spanish, vegetarian, Italian, Thai, Khmer, Chinese. Plenty of bars, cafes, spas in the area as well. Comfortable hotel, but not that prices quoted are for one person, so you may be charged extra if there are two of you. We were quoted an extra $10 on arrival because there were two of us. So check carefully what you're booking. Most hotels on Agoda have a maximum room occupancy of two, but a few have a maximum of one.
Friendly English speaking helpful staff”
My stay was very relaxed and pleasant. Each time returned daily staff very welcoming and helpful
Comfortable, friendly and convenient ”
Well located for sightseeing”
We enjoyed our stay in the hotel. It is well organized and the stuff is friendly. The only problem, which you will have propably in front of every international hotel, is the big amount of loals trying to sell you a tuktuk drive or other things. The best thing, is the Restaurant kmer surin which is awesome. Take a seat on the first floor. Good food and awesome atmosphere.
