More about Botel

This hotel is a cruise ship moored at the media wharf in the former NDSM shipyard, connected to the central railway station by ferry. The Botel in Amsterdam is docked at NDSM Pier 3, a lively area with artists’ studios, funky bars, and vibrant cafés and restaurants. A free shuttle bus operates during the night when the ferry is not running. The hotel offers very clean, airy cabins with satellite TV and free in-house movies, wireless Internet access, and canal or land views. The Pollux Café serves excellent Dutch and international food, and the bar stays open until 1am.

Quiet and comfortable”

The Botel offers a slightly different 'hotel' experience. If coming from Central Station it is a short free ferry ride from the centre, takes about 10 minutes to get from central dock to the north dock, where the Hotel is a 5 minute walk from. The room is clean, and comfortable. It is quiet, being located outside the city. Regular check in is 3 pm, but I was able to check in earlier as a room was ready and available. Check out is 11 am. Bathroom is a little tight for space, but then again this is a cabin in a boat. It is functional and clean. I had a great 'catch up' sleep here which I really needed to re-charge the batteries. I think the Botel offers good value for money, when compared to staying in Amsterdam Central.

Fab base for a weekend in Amsterdam”

Booked the Botel to try it out for a weekend with the girls. Our room had a double bed, it was basic with a compact bathroom cubicle - but all clean. Weather was cold and wet during our stay but the radiator heated up quickly and made room feel cosy. Just what we needed to come back to after a day around the city. We were 1 level down from reception and could see the NSDM ferry come and go. Breakfast salon and bar is located on the same level as the reception area. Breakfast is a combi of continental spread ie cheese, ham, smoked salmon, salad, pate, preserves, toast and pastries, and some cooked food consisting of bacon, sausages, beans, boiled eggs. Our room was a deal that included breakfast and for that the fare offered was ok. If I had booked room only I would not have paid £12 pp for the breakfast. In that case we would have grabbed breakfast at the small cafe by the ferry pier. The Botel is basic but had everything we needed. We will come back.

Brilliant budget accommodation ”

The Botel exceeded our expectations, as we were very realistic when booking budget accommodation on a disused ferry! It was clean, comfortable and everything you need to sleep and have a bit of breakfast. That’s just it in a nutshell. You can eat dinner at the Pollux which right opposite, over the walkway and is fab. You need to get the free ferry to the heart of Amsterdam which runs every half hour and takes 10-15 minutes, we found this no bother, it literally takes you from the back of the Botel and drops you at central station, from there you can walk it, train it, tram it, whatever. We managed to see everywhere on foot and enjoyed every moment. I would stay at the Botel again.

Decent hotel”

For the given price (around £45 per night), I would say this was good hotel as it includes breakfast as well ! The Botel is located on the other side of backwaters from Central. There is a free ferry service which is run by GVB (Amsterdam local transport) every 30 minutes... In peak hours it runs every 15 minutes... It takes around 12 minutes to go from Central station to NDSM Werf... From that place it is just 1 min walk... The stop is right next to Botel... Please be careful to take the correct ferry as there are ferry services to other places as well (I took a wrong ferry and had to return to Central and take the correct one on first day). Breakfast is decent... The only problem is that the self-service area is too small for 100s of guests.. Often we need to wait 5-10 mins just to toast the breads! They have to consider expanding this! Staff were continously refilling the food, so that was not a problem.. Luggage storage room is right next to reception and it was locked by the staff and opened only when you had to access.. I left my luggage there on last day and had no issues.. Bed size is decent.. but the bathroom is really .. really small... considering that most of us spend few nights, it should be manageable.. Some of the staff are friendly and some of them don't even smile.. so can't really comment on this..

Wish Every city had a Botel Hotel Concept”

Great Idea really quirky. Very competitive very clean accommodation in the Centre of Amsterdam Great FREE ferry to and from Botel to Amsterdam Central Station ( Travel to anywhere in Netherlands/Europe) in addition ideally situated to catch a tram, bus or taxi to get anywhere in Amsterdam. All the staff are informative & friendly from my experience. I would recommend this to any/everyone Chris from Merthyr Tydfil

Set the tone for a great visit”

The botel was a great choice for us. Staff were very friendly and professional. The rooms are small (and the shower is tight) but it is a ships cabin after all. They were nice and clean, safe, and reasonably quiet. Well worth it for the character (my 11 year old loved it), we slept well, and the price was fair. Breakfast is simple and good. We never waited more than 5 minutes for the ferry (a 1 minute walk from the botel), then just a few minutes to centraal; it's a nice way to get to town. The neighborhood is fun and artsy, fantastic flea market on Sunday, a few restaurants and a great little fish and chip shop around the corner from the ferry landing. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

After reading some comments, I was ready for the worst stay, but Amstel Botel surprised me. The room was clean, the food was fresh and the personnel was helpful, I got everything I needed and it didn't take a lot of time. The free of charge ferry has a convenient schedule. If you go to Amsterdam not for staying in the hotel during the whole day, I would recommend it.

good value ”

comfort, staff, value for money

Great value for money. Staff are brilliant, we requested to be moved to a double room as we mistakenly didn't request one while booking online, they done this without a problem, stayed an extra night for a great rate. Free ferry across from central station to botel which only takes a few mins and they come every 20 mins or so... shuttle bus to the botel after a certain time when the ferry stops, I thought this would be an inconvenience but it wasn't at all.

Botel Review”

Good location, short free ferry ride from rear of Central station. Basic hotel but good price and very clean and friendly. Good shower and beds. All you need for a few days in Amsterdam. Excellent public transport and bike services. No need to drive anywhere in Dam. Good continental breakfast and nice bar that serves lovely pizza’s. Nice to watch the different boats going up and down the canal. Would definatley go back to the Botel.

Nice views over the harbour. Smallish room as expected of a cabin with very small shower room. Comfortable bed. No kettle but that wasn't a problem for me. Friendly staff. Nice to have fresh crisp apples on offer at reception for free. Free ferry over from the central train station to the Botel.

Beds so comfortable, staff really nice, we got a deal on this, although, I saw on side of boat cost from £89ppn don't think I would have paid that though. Walk way to botel very slippy with trip hazards but safe to walk on road. Also lighting quite poor and area is dark

Good breakfast, and a clean room.
Washroom a bit small.

It was a convenient stay with easy access to the city center, and will recommend for those who want a new experience on a boat hotel. You can easily take a free ferry from the jetty which is at the back of central railway station, then in about 10 minutes reach the Botel.

Good to be on a boat, but other than that…”

we booked the discounted rate via Agoda for a double room. Yet a twin room was given. As we were tired, and it was only for a night, we didn't care much and rested. Staff was in general friendly and helpful. Although there are occasions there's nobody at the reception. Being on boat and have the slight swings was quite comfortable. Yet it got quite noisy as of somebody was fixing sth/ scratching metal at 7/8am. The shower head looks quite lousy but had surprisingly high water pressure. But the toilet wasn't quite clean, and there's absolutely zero bathroom amenities except 2 rolls of toilet paper and 2 disposable cups. Towels look quite clean though. The botel is right next to pier for ferry back to centraal station, I find it quite convenient. there's a breakfast/coffee/bar place right next to the pier as well, that was such a nice place. I think this place is good for staying for 1 night or 2.

Good place”

Amstel botel is really good option to stay in Amsterdam. Is not in the city center (that's definitely the best thing) and you have to take a 15 min free boat to reach the destination but is quite easy from amsterdam centraal station. The worst thing? Maybe the boat is full of young people, and maybe in your adjacent cabin. At night, I tried to went to talk with the main receptionist to have a solution because was impossible to sleep but he didn't want to help me at all. Finally I asleep. The same for the two days.

Quirky stay”

Clean and friendly, bar drinks reasonably priced, quite location but you can hear the hustle bustle in the morning, breakfast get there early as they appear to find it difficult to keep up with topping the food up, easy transfer from main train station just make your way to the ferry terminal outside and take the ferry on the far left, they run about every 15 minutes and it’s free, if you are not bothered about all the luxuries of a big hotel and fancy something different then this is a place to stay, take a travel kettle also.

Not the Botel I thought.”

I use to stay in the Botel close to the station. When I booked this Botel I thought it was the same place. It was a pleasant boat ride to the area of this Botel and the service and facilities were the same as the older Botel I use to stay in. Just a little bit out the way for my trip, but easily managed to get there and into the city with a little boat ride and a walk.
