The day staying in the Amsterdam Hostel”
This is the day I stay in the Amsterdam Hostel, and I am glad to have the chance to stay in this hostel. When arriving in the hostel, I was asked by Amsterdam staff at the front desk saying that "May I have your id?" That 's the most memorable part I remembered in my trip. I have to admitted that staying in a 4 bed room makes me a little uncomfortable; however, I am very happy to have a chance to stay with a Russian and some other tourists from all over the world. That is the most unforgettable part when staying in the San Francisco. Meanwhile, this is the last day I stayed in the Amsterdam Hostel, so I have to cherish this opportunity very much. To be honest, this is one of the most valuable hostel I lived in the San Francisco, and I am very happy I can stay. Last, I think why this hostel is called "Amsterdam Hostel" since the manager here is an European, and that is why this hostel is called "Amsterdam Hostel".
charming SF-gritty ”
The shower was warm and the beds were clean. The kitchen was big and spacious but crowded for breakfast. It had dated decor and carpet wore down and repaired with duct tape in some spots (but I will take that any day for a decent price, not a problem); metal bunk beds that look like they have seen several decades but do the job, yet somehow all of these elements combined to make you feel like you may be in some cheap hostel in Amsterdam, somehow (never been but I imagine so) . If you are curious what this old city SF buildings look like on the inside, (windows that face dusty brick buildings) this could be a good lil stop. Neat experience.
Strategic location for budget travel in the city”
The hotel is strategically located in the town centre. It’s value for money if you are on budget. There’s a private room with own toilet and dometery that you have to share toilet with others. Laundry service is provided with $3.50 consider bargain rate compare to the city. There are common room for internet and tv room. You will have to cook your own breakfast, pancake mix, coffee and tea is provided. The kitchen is open for use, so you can cook your meal throughout the day. If you rent a car, you will have to pay the city parking rate, which will be higher then the car rental.
Standard rate but good service”
I had an enjoyable stay at the Monarch. There were a lot of other europeans there and it was nice to chct with them. The lobby downstairs was really nice and cozy and I enjoyed having my morning coffee downstairs in the lounge section of the lobby conversing with other guests. My only complaint was that the hotel was not equipped with the best Wi-fi, some guests reported that it only worked in the lobby for them. Both managers were absolutely great and had perfect customer service skills. Locution is very good.
If you are looking for something cheap”
If you are looking for something cheap with convenient location, it is your choice if you can bare belows, Everything was just acceptable , too noisy at until 12:30 which you need to wear earplugs if you sleep early. It is good to have restroom and shower in your room, but the shower is hard to control the hot and cold water & the pressure is too weak for runing out water , I could’t get my hair all wet. You need to carry your luggage to max 2 floors, the way to hotel has a few slopes, it would be a hard work with your luggage. Incl breakfast - pan cake /tea /coffee, pan cake have to be cook by yourself and many ppl was waiting for cooking after 9:00am.
Great experience!”
My first time traveling without my kids! I was in a dorm, it was clean and quiet and I slept like a log. Free breakfast and tea and coffee all day. Use of a shared kitchen was excellent, as America is EXPENSIVE! So made it doable. A Laundry downstairs and a tv room and wifi! I walked everywhere! So great! And made me feel like I was back in India with the lovely staff. Danyavad!
Great value overall!”
The location and neighborhood is excellent. If there was a downside to this property, it would only be that the carpet and furniture is dated and upholstery looks unkept. Otherwise, it's a great deal.
Good location”
Location and hostel facilities are the perfect combination
Great Location for your short stay”
Backpackers location of choice.. Very accessible to public transportation and walking distance to most tourist spots. They have a kitchen you can use to prepare for your own food. With patio you can use. Room is decent.. Bedsheets clean...
Excellent location and reasonable price”
The facilities are bit old but it is such a convenience location and quite clean. The staff was helpful too. Great value.
It's kinda cheap tho”
The reception staff was kind, but she forgot to gave me a towel and bed sheets (when I check-out another guy told me have to return them, then I knew they offer a towel.) Complimentary coffee, tea, pancakes are offered (they offer pancake dough so you should cook pancakes by yourself). The building is classic but clean, good atmosphere. They also have terrace, baggage cloak room, dinning room, laundry. Bathroom is located inside of each rooms. So in the morning rush, you may have to wait take a shower or washroom. It's little far from bart and muni station (about 10 minutes walking distance). So when you go to the hostel from, or go to SFO, you may expect extra time. (And you may know there are many slopes in SF, kinda tough way with large baggage. In the neighborhood, there are some dinners, bars, drugstores, so it's convenient when you hangout.
Reservation ”
I’d been booking for 5-7/05/2018 , I emailed to room reservation/front that I will check in late on 06/05/2018 in the afternoon but they canceled my booking and I need to check in so that they served me but they let me check out in the morning at 10:00 am on Monday 7/05/2018 but I cannot check out because I confused about the time so I come in to check out at noon 12:00 am but they charged me for 10$ because I check out late. (They said it’s gone) ... I wanna know about the time to check in/out for standard hostel/hotel if I booking for 5-7/05/2018 , so that when I can check out for this?
Sometimes there have Funny smell in basement floor ”
Because the kitchen was located on basement, and our room was on the same floor as well, sometimes there have a weird smell... It was very uncomfortable....
Exceptional”
Great stay. Clean and affordable with a great location.
Rude staffs, bad attitude n worn out & torn furniture! Dark hostel with dim lights all over! ”
This has got to be the worst ever hostel that I’ve stayed. Was in fact trying out my stay here having stayed in many HI NZ & USA HOSTELLING. Was truly disappointed by the condition of the hostel! Furnished with torn and worn out furniture (especially the sofa in TV room, pieces of torn PU leather hanging on the seats (yaks!) and dining chairs too. A small Kitchen with dim light (yup only 1 light!) you can only get a bit more light from opened backyard door and there’s no place for you to cut your meat/veggies or prepare your meals! Beds and bathroom are not cleaned upon check out unless you asked for it if you remained in the room. Dirty place, avoid it. The Indian staffs at the reception are young, inexperienced and rude to several visitors too.
Great location and reasonable price ”
A few minute from Union Sqare
A bit not clean hostel.”
Very good location. Friendly staff. A bit not so clean room. Very old hostel as well.
Got STOLEM in this hostel. TWICE.”
I stayed in here for 8 days. and got stolen twice. The staff told me I gotta put things in the locked closet. And my room has NO closets could be locked in. (WTF?) How the staff deal with: they sent the e-mail to the thief and said they would give me responses. AND I GOT NO RESPONSES. (they said: cause no reply back) (again, WTF?) So the rent is cheap in SF. But you might get stolen. many times.
Acceptable”
I was book a little bit late and. explain to the staff that I lost my ID but I have a paper fromdmv that supposted to be working. Staff . Then he ask me if I have 10 cash for keys deposit . I told him I have no cash because I have lost my wallet . That's why I have to go to dmv. . He said he won't except me to stay that night . And I told him it was fine just make sure I got a refund back. After that I was talk ing to the guy at the lobby and ask him the information about a cheap place I can stay . The front desk guy come out and ask me to leave . I think it was very rude . The next night I show up try to ask him weather he cancel my reservation because I saw the charge on credit card . He won't let me in so itry to ring the bell . Once I get inside he saw me with my dog ( a service dog with a dog tag from Ada . He shouting and told me I can't be in side the hotel .and my dog gave to get out of the property. I feel like I been treat poorly and the front desk was bpvery rude The next day
