"I have been to Koh Mak 5 times and 4 of the 5 times I have stayed at Makathanee Resort. The location is excellent. In high season the Leelawadee Speedboat docks right there from the mainland letting you off right at the hotel entrance. It sits in what can best be considered the "heart of town" on the island with several restaurants, shops, Bangkok Hospital and a pharmacy within a short walk. They do a nice job keeping their part of the beach very clean, the views are beautiful and the grounds well kept. The rooms may not be 5-star resort plush, but they are very comfortable and clean. The restaurant food is good and they have a more than the adequate breakfast buffet. The best part of this resort is the family atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and willing to help. Employees are allowed to have their young children with them while they work and look after them like a village. Even the beach dogs become your friends (if you feed them enough). It is really very pleasant."

"Located at beautiful Ao Kao beach...quiet and secluded, privacy is assured. Lived in beachfront bungalow, I was abounded in breezes. Cozy and comfy environment with friendly staff. Love the simplicity of the room especially the design of its toilet. The food is so so and think that the bbq seafood dinner is nothing to shout about. Alternatives - there are a row of restaurants behind Baan Koh Mak."
