Located away from the island’s lively nightlife, the only beach on the west coast of Samet is a self-contained area preferred by visitors who want relaxation and beach time. The long white sandy beach is ideal for swimming, and there are plenty of activities to choose from, including windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling, diving, fishing, kayaking and island-hopping.
The warm crystal clear waters of the beach’s two diving spots are home to colorful marine life and plenty of coral. Back on dry land, visitors can immerse themselves in nature on hiking and bicycle trips. The surrounding beaches are easily accessible by rented scooter and shared taxis.
The area was once home to budget guesthouses, but they have now been replaced by a handful of mid- to top-end resorts, making Ao Prao among the most luxurious options on Koh Samet. The beach is known for its spectacular sunsets, and hotel restaurants stage elaborate sunset barbecues. Unlike other parts of the island, visitors to Ao Prao are untroubled by venders and the sight of obtrusive deck chairs. Instead, hotels offer discrete beach service, comfy beach lounges and even beachside massage.
