Great value for money and access to the city”
We loved our stay at the historic Aida Plaza. The hotel is clean, comfortable and well located - plus it is great value in an expensive city! Our room was spotless, as were the common areas. While we had a room with private bathroom we peeked into one of the shared facilities and it too was very clean. We had two double beds, private bathroom, and TV in room. The room was small, but worked fine for us and our four cases (end of a 5 week trip) - having a wardrobe in room, and a large buffet style cupboard helped. While there is no A/C we could open the window to let in cool fresh air. There is a shared fridge, microwave, and hot water, plus a coffee maker in the lobby for guests to use, and a vending machine ($1.50 for Coca Cola beverages). We used both the fridge and microwave during our stay. Location wise we found it ideal. While Market can be a bit grungy (whether you stay at a cheap or expensive hotel - there's one directly across the road at more than twice the price), it's well placed to visit San Francisco. You have easy access to all public transport options in the city (bus, light rail, street cars, BART, cable car), and walking distance to attractions. There is a homeless population in the surrounds, but we found that no-one bothered us - we did see some limited overt drug use (once in 3 nights), but just minded our business and moved on. The sidewalks are cleaned daily, so we actually found the area quite clean. In terms of noise, we found the music from the rooftop bar in the hotel across the street (which runs to 1am Friday and Saturday morning) to be more of an issue than the mentioned issues in prior reviews. As for security - the hotel keeps the front door locked. The staff are very quick to come and let you in when you arrive - they have CCTV and constantly check for guests arriving. We felt safe and secure at all times. We would absolutely recommend the Aida to others, and will stay again on future visits to The City.
A bit of history in the ideal location”
We loved that the Aida Plaza Hotel is in an historic San Francisco building (circa 1912) and that it retains its historic charm. The collection of antique jukeboxes in the lobby is unique! Don't forget to look up and check out the old grand chandeliers! Our room was clean and comfortable. Two double beds, flat screen TV. No other amenities per se however there is a shared fridge and microwave in the lobby, and hot water and coffee all day too. We met the owner one morning - he has plans for a larger fridge in the lobby, he finds these shared facilities contribute to the traveller community, where guests meet and chat and become friends. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, with hot water practically instantly even on the 6th floor. We love the location for its connections to all of San Francisco. You have the BART, the fabulously rattling historic street cars, the Muni light rail and buses practically at your doorstep. Just a short walk and you're at the cable car. Yes, it's on the edge of the Tenderloin. During the day there weren't a lot of people around. At night groups tend to congregate in UN Plaza across the road. As a result the nights can get a bit noisy - we didn't experience the yelling some speak of in reviews, but did face some late and loud music. Bring earplugs and you'll be fine. We were not concerned for our safety at any stage. Finally, this hotel is good value in an expensive city! We've already booked to stay again!
Comfortable stay in central San Francisco”
The location of Aida Plaza is very good - just a few steps from the BART station, which is useful in view of the location. The hotel is quite "retro" and historic, we enjoyed the memorabilia in the foyer. Our room on the 6th floor was compact but comfortable, with ensuite bathroom. There was no traffic noise. However, there was noise from the heating system which stopped around 11pm and restarted around 6.30am. No coffee maker in the room, but there was coffee downstairs, Overall, a comfortable, good-value, central stay in San Francisco.
Good location but not that safe by night time”
Pros: Staff were very good very helpful. The building is a bit old okay for short stays. Clean rooms, they make sure to fix it and refill everything everyday. Location is convenient near to most public transportations. Cons: Room is a bit small. Very slow internet we had to use data the whole time. There are a lot of homeless outside and around the hotel. Very bad during night time they camp outside and so on.
Wonderful! A dream come true.”
Nestled in the northeast sector of the city, the Aida Plaza could not be a better deal to find affordable and kind service. They screen guests to keep you safe, and hold on to your keys, to prevent loss! The beds are comfortable, the rooms spacious enough to allow for rest and relaxation, with lots of room for clothing and what not. The facilities are separate from the room, but it wasn’t an issue. Bring a robe and shower shoes! The area around offered good shopping, and was not far from bus stations and right on top of a BART line, so you can get around easily. Staff was friendly, non judgmental, and helpful. It has the vibe of a young deniro movie.
