Good value, fantastic snorkelling,- shame about the plastic”
The all inclusive package is good value as it includes all meals, drinks (the alcohol inc wine was of very poor quality) as well as a snorkel trip by boat daily and one excellent day out with a bar b que on a remote small island. The facilities are at the budget end of the Maldive tourism market with rooms being basic but functional. The king bed is actually 2 singles pushed together. The air conditioning was very quiet. The rooms will soon be in need of upgrading. Our major concern is the total disregard for reusing bottles. Everyone is given several plastic water bottles every day. All mixer drinks are served in single use plastic bottles. The rubbish tip on the island is overflowing into the sea and it’s no wonder why. Come on Equator Village - get your act together and perhaps provide reusable bottles with water stations strategically placed - also use soft drinks from a dispenser - it will save you a fortune and more importantly do your bit for the environment.

I was pleasantly surprised when I checked into the Equator Village Resort. It had a nice laid back and relaxed feel to it. The staff were very helpful and professional, although I'd arrived early they were able to allocate me a room which was great. I had previously agreed with them I could use the facilities if early but a room was even better. Its an intriguing property - it felt like a trip back to a British colonial past - not surprising really given it started life as a British RAF base. So the rooms are all laid out barrack style not that there is anything wrong with that. Where it all ticked up was the beach front with a long good swimming beach with loungers and chairs amongst the trees. Then there is a lovely pool area with more loungers and a swim up bar, spa, gym etc The buffet meals, with some freshly prepared items, gave a good choice and was of good quality. My choice was to stay here one night and fly up to Male the following day or go straight to Male and find a hotel there. I'm so glad I chose the former. The value for money of Equator Village is great. My experience of Male hotels is either a disappointing city hotel or something like the Hulhule Island Hotel which is both disappointing and expensive. The room was a good size, a bit dated but absolutely fine. The bathroom was a good size, brightly lit and with a large walk-in shower So yes I'd recommend this if you fine yourself in this area, I think its great value and enjoyed my stay there.

Great location with a local twist”
A repeat visit. Comfortable, clean and convenient. Close to airport and you also access local shops and cafes on the next couple of islands by road (walk, bike or taxi). We love that you are not 'captive' like on the island resorts. Not 6-star or postcard beach, but still amazing snorkelling and diving at the doorstep. Can stay a few nights here for one night at a luxury island resort.

No other choice of accommodation on Gan island. Good boat trips to show you the area. All inclusive is worth paying for. If you pay at the resort. Bike riding would be nice but the hotel bikes are poorly maintained and therefore not a comfortable ride.
