Pleasant one night stay”
We had an appointment in Stratford early in the morning so decided to drive down from Manchester and stay the night. We had stayed in the Shakespeare before but many, many moons ago. We decided to do so again as it was convenient to where we had to go and it seemed good value. Glad we did. The receptionist was very pleasant as were all the staff we met, and very helpful. A great thing was that the hotel had not tried to save on the cental heating bill and the rooms were comfortably warm in this freezing weather. We had a standard room like many others we had stayed in, and it was very clean, had a hair dryer and an iron, bottled water in the fridge - but no biscuits! The location is very central and on a main street and it was very noisy at times, especially as some person in a high powered car seemed to use it as their personal drag strip until after midnight. However, this is outside the control of the hotel so no criticism there and the windows of our room did allow them to be opened which is another positive, I can't sleep in stuffy rooms. Next morning we had breakfast which was plentiful and varied and serviced by very pleasant staff. We checked out of the hotel feeling very satisfied. We would have no hesitation in staying here again, it's got a lovely atmosphere which will only be enhanced when visitor numbers increase with the warmer weather and the lifting of all restrictions. Would just like to give a shout out to Lambs, a restaurant on Sheep Street just beside the hotel car park entrance where we had a wonderful dinner.

This is the most cutest and beautiful hotel I've ever stayed in. First off, the exterior of the hotel is just perfect, and the inside is even more astounding. Greeted by the old Shakespearian aesthetic that it provides. The room is very cute and pretty, each room is written with a Shakespeare book or play title. My room is the double bed room, the room is very spacious with a huge desk, tray and etc. The toilet is also very spacious with the beautiful bathtub. However, the air-conditioning of the room wasn't working when I was there, so it was very very hot during the night. The room is very clean though. Environment wise, it is very peaceful and calm, The only problem with the location is that, it is very far from the train station about 20 minutes walk and it was raining at that time, which was brutal. Other than that, it's very convenient it's near the city centre and most of the attractions. Staff are very friendly and flexible with some of our requests.
Wonderful Stay”
The hotel is in a great location. We could easily wander around the town for shopping and down to the river. The hotel is in need of some loving attention with the paintwork and decor but its all work in progress. The charm and atmosphere of the hotel more than makes up for a few battered doorways. The hotel is clean. The bar is well stocked the barman friendly and the fires were burned bright and were carefully managed. Breakfast choices were amazing. We will definitely stop at this hotel again.

Great bit of history and great value”
Perfect location. It's not a new place and that just adds to the character. Really old English. The spirit level was not invented when this hotel went up.
