”Old-world charm, great location“
I can't wait to come back to the Platinum Hotel! The exterior facade of the building is quite daunting, but the interior is charming and features a variety of old-fashioned touches, from ornate door handles to damask-style wallpaper in the hallways. My room was very large and comfortable; though the wallpaper was aging and slightly tattered in places, the wooden furniture was simple and classic; the sofas offered a wonderful place to relax; and the windows provided ample sunlight, a nice view, and blackout curtains. Room amenities included a hair dryer, an electric kettle, and a mini-fridge (plus mini-bar), as well as cups, glasses, and tea. In the bathroom were shampoo, body wash, hand soap, toothbrushes, and a razor. The included breakfast was delicious, usually featuring sandwiches, fresh fruit (dragon fruit, watermelon, and bananas were the most common), dumplings, bread, hard-boiled eggs with roe, fried eggs, sausages, fried rice, cereal, and more--plus coffee upon request. The breakfast staff were particularly lovely, especially the (English-speaking) young waiter/busboy; everyone always greeted me with a smile and were happy to refill my coffee. The hotel's location is fantastic--just a five-minute walk to Sukhbaatar Square, with convenience stores, restaurants, and a mall all easy to reach on foot. The entire area is very walkable; with this hotel as the starting point, it was easy to walk as far as Gandan Monastery to the northwest and Narantuul Market to the southeast (each about 40 minutes away from the Platinum Hotel on foot). My only (minor) complaint is that the housekeeping service was slightly erratic, arriving after 5 p.m. twice and never replacing the towels (or sheets, I think) during my 8-night stay (in fact, when I left a towel on the floor to indicate I wished to change it, they helpfully just hung up the towel for me); however, the room was generally kept quite clean, and I suppose the lack of new towels, linens, and bottled water was quite
