Mixed Experience: Beautiful Resort But Not Worth the Price Tag”
I’m a little late sharing my review of our stay at Secrets Akumal in May. We were really excited for our trip as my parents visited a few years ago and constantly speak so highly of their visit. My husband and I found it wasn’t quite the right fit for us. I will caveat that this was our first time at an all-inclusive. While the resort is beautiful, there is a lot to do in the area, and the staff work really hard, it felt extremely curated and impersonal, and there were a few weird elements that didn’t seem to fit the very high price tag including an uncomfortable experience being locked out of our room. The worst part of our stay happened when we extended by one night as we weren’t feeling great and opted to skip the next location on our trip. We stopped by the front desk to confirm they had our updated reservation, to ensure our room keys were extended, and to check if they needed any credit card information for payment. They assured us they had everything they needed, our keys were updated, and to enjoy the rest of our extended stay. The next morning we had breakfast and headed to our room to grab our day bags to visit some cenotes. When we reached our room our keys didn’t work. It was unsettling as our passports, laptops, etc. were locked in the room. No one was at the concierge or responding to online messages. I had to walk to the front desk, wait for 15 minutes, and then be told that they had locked us out as we hadn't paid. The whole ordeal was really frustrating as we had asked if they needed our card the night before and ended up wasting two hours that morning and walking back and forth to the room twice. It was so strange to be treated like we were ‘stealing’ after we had already spent a lot of money at the resort. Overall the food was pretty good, especially the breakfasts. As vegetarians, we found some restaurants had better dinner menus than others. We especially enjoyed the Italian restaurant. Room service was a bit less tasty than the restaurants bu

Pure Bliss & Relaxation”
Looking for your best life away from home, Secrets is your place. Beautiful tropical grounds we didn't even mind we didn't have a beach view. We stayed in building 9, which was right by the spa. The spa here is excellent especially the Hydrotherapy. Come at least 45 min prior to treatment so you don't have to rush through the hydrotherapy. The food is excellent for an all-inclusive. Our favorite was the Seaside Grill for lunch and Seaside or Oceana for dinner. The entertainment is the best I have seen in an all-inclusive. Definitely try the pool yoga or pool bicycles if you want a little work out. Now be prepared the seaweed is bad at the beach, but they have workers who relentless work to clear it so you can get in and out of the ocean most of the central beach area. If you scuba, check out Akumal Dive Shop - important to go to Akumal Dive Shop not Akumal Dive Center. The Akumal Dive Shop is 2nd one down the beach to left of resort. Easy walk. It is basically the Shop before you get to breakwater wall. The turtles here are amazing. We didn't snorkel but we heard from others who did they saw some turtles too.

We needed to get away and it was the perfect place to do that. Everything was great! Definitely going back.
