Great location. Breakfast excellent. Spotlessly clean place.
A much needed oasis of calm in a busy travel schedule!”
Often in my travels I dash from here to there and rarely spend enough time to feel relaxed… particularly when my schedule only allows for a 1 night stay. Flight schedule and cheap flights out of Bulgaria allowed for a 1 night stop over in Sofia and I thought to why not use some of the money I saved by taking that leg and splurge on a nice hotel for once. After searching around I finally settled on the Sofia Hotel Balkan, a decision I am extremely pleased I made! Location wise it’s very conveniently location in a rather picturesque section of Sofia. However a metro station misread on my end resulted in a longer journey to the hotel then originally planned and a rather tired/flustered me stumbling through the door later in the afternoon. This was quickly amended by being greeted by the two lovely ladies (Anastasia- who’s name I over heard whilst filling out forms- and… i feel ashamed to say this but I never caught the German/Bulgarian ladies, name for which I hope she forgives me) at the desk with one of the warmest welcomes I have ever received from hotel people. I know on paper hotel people who choose to work in the hotel industry should be warm and inviting but not all receptionist are made equal …. Particularly in parts of Eastern Europe where I personally find people to be a bit more reserved/stand offish than other places. Thus when one is greeted so warmly it it’s a breath of fresh air to a tired traveller. All I can say is thank you:) The room it’s selfie was pleasant enough if a little tired around the edges. Some of the finishing (paint work and furniture stains) wasn’t what one would instantly assume 5 star. Possible 5 star that has seen better days or to be brutally honest probably closer to 4. However this was inconsequential since I was made to feel like a 5 star guest by the staff and I would take this over slick and spotless decor any day. In fact there was something alluring about the open and almost communistic grandiose of the main foyers and hal
dont take room to front or room 233”
The windows to the front are not tight enough to isolate totally from noise from tram. Room 233 is nicely renovated room but isolation for the water and wasterwater lines in the wall was forgotten, if you have light sleep take other room or earplugs.
