My preferred hotel in Kyoto ”
The staff are gracious and efficient. We received complimentary bowl of noodles for supper which is welcomed when one arrives late n too tired to step out of Ark hotel to search for a meal. Breakfast is substantial with Continental -cereals yoghurt choice of bakery n Local choice of rice porridge miso tofu fruits etc The main Hankyu Omiya station is 3 mins away. There is a subway called Shijo-omiya station one min away and 3 bus stops nearby to take you to the Gion area, Kyoto station & to other parts of Kyoto. Highly recommended
Good location, friendly staff, clean rooms”
The Ark Hotel at Kyoto is located in the center of Kyoto city. It is quite close to the metro/bus station and easy to reach. Nijo castle as well as the Imperial Palace can easily be reached in a 20 min walk or by bus. If you're interested in cheap breakfast or lunch, you will find three 7/11 shops close to the hotel. Price for accommodation is very good, rooms are small, but clean and way enough if sightseeing is the main reason for staying there.
Vacation at Ark Hotel”
We stayed 4 nights at Ark hotel Kyoto. The room was big and clean, the staff were nice and know good English. There is a computer in the lobby used for free internet access. The Hankyu Rail line one minuet walk from the hotel, from there a connection to the subway line is needed to get to Tokyo Station and to the main attractions. From Tokyo station, the hotel can be reached by a 10 min bus ride.
It was a really good hotel.”
I recommend this Ark hotel to my friends. I could take a bus at Kyoto station and get off in front of the hotel. Even though I was alone, I provided a really nice and big and clean room. It was convenient to move because it was right in front of Omiya Station. It was convenient to take the bus to go to the famous site of Kyoto. I wanted to stay at this hotel if the schedule permits.
Good location, clean rooms but poor wifi”
Ark hotel is close to the old electric railway that takes you to Arashiyama. There are also plenty of buses in the vicinity of the hotel that can take you to most attractions in Kyoto. The hotel has an interesting policy where you can trade up room service in the morning for two free bottled drinks. The only complaint is that the wifi connection is very poor (non-existent) in the rooms. I had to go down to the lobby to use the wifi, which was very inconvenient.
Ark Hotel Kyoto”
I would highly recommend Ark Hotel Kyoto for anyone planning a visit to this historical city. The hotel is very conveniently located next to a subway stop, streetcar stop, as well as a whole range of bus stops serving various tourist places within as well as outside the city.
Ark Hotel Kyoto”
When I arrived at Kyoto Station from Tokyo. The first thing was to visit Tourists' information center at the station. They provided me with the City map as well as the Bus route to the Hotel. Went to Bus stop A3 on the north side of station and catched Bus 206. It costs 200 Yen. Got off at the bus stop close to the Hotel. It's only few minutes walk. Room was not big but adequate with twin beds. The hotel is not the pick-up point for local tour. Have to go to nearby Hotel for pick-up. Hotel is central to few points of interest, such as Nijo Castle,Kyoto Imperial,Tenryuji Temple,Kikakuji temple(Golden Pavillion). They can be reached by either Bus or train. The 1-day Kyoto tour costs 11,600(including lunch) yen per person. If you want to save money, travel by bus or train yourself will still get you to the place you want.
Great location, good rooms, friendly staff”
I was a solo traveller first time in Kyoto. This hotel is in a excellent location, only 1 stop from the main part of town on the Hankyu line and right at the terminal stop of the shijo-omiya electric line which goes to a lot of tourist sites. The bonus is you can even take the Hankyu line all the way to Osaka which is a 40-45 minute rude for only 400 yen. Although the hotel is old it is very well mantained and spotless. The only thing to watch out for is carrying large bags from Kyoto station. You will have to swap lines twice in very non-big bag friendly stations as the companies that run the lines are different. Very bizzare concept coming from Sydney. That is just something to keep in mind that isn't to do anything with the hotel per se, but just something to consider when getting there. Also watch out what train you get on as the express ones don't stop at Oyima! Overall great hotel and Kyoto is a magical place you must visit. Can't wait to go back and would stay there again.
Excellent reception staff”
Superb service. Staff speaks good English is kind & very helpful. It’s location is on the Shio-dori and just 4 minutes walk to Omiya train station & the Shio-omiya subway(Randen Line takes you direct to Arashimaya ) Would definitely stay in Ark hotel again when I go to Kyoto. This hotel has THE best connectivity for smartphones ! Pleasant surprise to find a multi-charger for devices as well as an extension cord. Great attention to details and I am really a satisfied customer. Breakfast very good too
Good place to stay”
Close to Shijo-Omiya Station, around a 1-minute walk, if you are going to Arashiyama (no transfers required). Close to Omiya Station, around a 2-minute walk, if you are going to Gion (only two stops away, no transfers required). Far from Kyoto Station but only a bus ride away (we rode bus route 206). Bus stop to Kyoto Station is a 2-minute walk on the right side of Omiya Dori. Self-service laundry available but you have to pay and buy detergent from them. Confusing policy (because of the language barrier) about the No Cleaning Service but otherwise no complaints with hotel cleanliness/service. 7/10 - possibly would stay again due accessibility of location.
Pleasant and good value”
My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and were quite happy with the room and service. In our intila booking we asked for a non-smoking double, and when we checked in we were told it was a smoking double, but when we asked for that to be changed, the clerk at the desk was able to find a non-smoking room after about a minute's checking, which was fine. Room was small but adequate, the window opened which was a relief as it would have been hot otherwise. We booked for one night but extended our stay for a second night with no problem. The desk staff spoke English well enough for our needs and they were always polite and helpful, as we have found almost all Japanese to be. A slightly larger room would have been welcome, but overall we were quite pleased with the Ark Hotel and happy to disagree with the reviews we have seen which criticised it.
A Pleasant Stay”
I found the Ark to be a pleasant base for my research trip to Kyoto. It was about a 15 minute walk to a main shopping area (Shijo Kawaramachi) and trains. The area was quiet and had a number of convenience stores. The bed was a little hard but the room was bigger than most business hotels where I've stayed. I speak Japanese so I have no trouble communicating. I found the staff to a little less friendly than the reception at Tokyo hotels, but that might be a cultural difference between Kyoto and Tokyo. The Japanese breakfast was excellent; at 1000 yen (reserved the day before) the Western style offerings were somewhat limited (for people who don't want stew for breakfast, perhaps a hard-boiled egg would be nice.) I only bought the breakfast one day, so perhaps I shouldn't judge. I liked having the refrigerator in the room (as well as two types of Japanese tea and a real porcelain tea cup) and there is a very reasonable supermarket nearby on Omiya St., a little south of the hotel.
Nice stay / Good transportation network”
It's location was great, in between two train network; Hankyu line run between central Kyoto and Osaka, and the other one run between Arashiyama and Omiya and also between Kitano Hakubaicho and Omiya. Found a city bus stop just a few steps away from the main entrance, many more stops around the area of which we can reach most the sightseeing in Kyoto. Room sizes was satisfied. Especially the twin bed room , not just the room is much larger but also the bath is largely as well. Helpful staffs. An elder staff in the car park, stop his work and let us pass through first, very polite manner. Clean rooms. A 100 yen shop nearby. There are many food shops around the Omiya area, from cheaper price to better quality, higher price, which fit all budget. Will stay again when back to Kyoto.
Good location but not the greatest sleep”
Pros: More space than a lot of budget hotels in Japan, full size shower and tub plus a closet for suitcases. Good facilities. Really friendly and helpful staff. Super close to the subway for easy access to all major attractions in Kyoto City. Cons: The walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors laughing and talking until 1 am. It’s off a main street so you hear all the trucks and sirens. The bed is really firm and might not be great after a few nights. The smell from the smoking room fills the entrance when people are using it.
Nice hotel with fluent English staff”
Location requires riding the Kyoto subway and Hankyu train line to reach without much walking. Staff spoke excellent english and was very helpful with our travels. Double room had plenty of space for luggage and bed large enough for 2 people. Highly recommended if you are willing to spend 15-20 minutes from Kyoto station by train to reach this hotel.
Location good for travel to any place in Kyoto. Airport limousine bus stops at Shijo Omiya, about 3~5 minutes away on foot from the hotel. Family Mart is in the next building and drug store is in the same block. Room is small but clean. Breakfast is good enough. Staffs are professional. Not a luxury hotel but perfect for budget travellers.
Clean & Accessible Place to Stay in the Heart of Kyoto”
Ark Hotel is located near the train stations, grocery shops and 10 minutes away from Kyoto Central Station, though there is a subway just across the hotel. Hotel Staff speaks and understand English, I also hear them talk fluently in Fukien. Staffs are very polite and helpful.
Metro station, Randan rail station and bus stop nearby the hotel, just 1 minute walk, very convenience to go everywhere, . only spent 1300 yen to take taxi from the hotel to Kyoto Station. breakfast is good. Hotel room is not big but clean and cozy. worth to stay with ART Hotel.
Convenient, clean, nice staff”
The rooms are big when compare with the hotels in Osaka. Clean. location is convenient. Restaruants around. 100 yen store just around the corner. you can go to Arashiyama directly from the train station just next to the hotel. I will definitely stay here when I come back to Kyoto.
Compact but perfect for a couple of days stay”
it is budget priced hotel and the room very small but for a 2 night stay it was perfect due to the location and price, don't expect an spacious room it is somewhere to put your head down after a full day sight seeing. the Staff were very helpful and guided us on where to go and see the sights of Kyoto. Would we stay there again, yes for a short stay if you wanted a room to laze about in it would not be suitable, but then you will pay a lot more.
