Value for money accommodation”
It was mainly a dorm-style hostel accommodation, but I got a private room here. Located on the main road and with Vang Vieng being a small town, you are in close proximity to almost everything like eateries, shops, and the night market. The room was spartan and reminded me of my time in the army, but there were a strong ceiling fan and working aircon. There were lots of cobwebs in the corners of the room but otherwise, it was somewhat clean and adequate. Beds were comfy to sleep in and the staff was friendly. WiFi was terrible though, which I found to be generally the case in Laos.
The Best Hostel I've ever been! (직원들이 정말 친절해요ㅠㅠ)”
I have been to Laos with my friend. We, two, used the family room(it's for 3 people) here, since it was cheaper than the couple room maybe because of somekind of promotion in Agoda. Anyway, we stayed 2 nights here. We also visited Luangprabang by the night bus during staying so we actually haven't "slept" here(literally) but used the room. Firstly we liked the location since we could walk from the bus terminal that we arrived from Vientiane. Also the restaurant near was cheap but super delicious. Shampoo and other things for shower were provided. But the best thing was their service. When we arrived, the staff explained us so nicely and she carried our luggage to our room(it was 2nd floor) and she was always kind when we asked for help. Moreover, actually we had a problem going back to Vanvieng from Luangprabang, because we accidentally got off at Vientiane. So we called Army Barracks for help, since we couldn't go back again, so that we can get our luggage. We asked them can we get them by bus so that we can find them at the bus terminal in Vientiane, and we are going to pay the bus fee right away, the hostel staff said he is going to send them to where we are staying in Vientiane!! We were almost moved to tears. We said thank you so much and because of the Army Barracks, we could come back home well, since my passport was also in the luggage. So we deeply appreciate the help from Army Barracks. I really recommend every tourists who are to stay in Vangvieng. Oh I nearly forgot to note that the view was so great.
Friendly Staff and Good breakfast!”
I had two nights in Vang Vieng and selpt in this cozy and budget hostel. It is just outside from downtown but within walk distance. The front desk staff was very friendly and helped me a lot. The private room was also clean. The breakfast was also good. And I could make a reservation to have one-day tour in this hostel. Next time if I visit Vang Vieng I want to stay this hostel.
I tried to find some bad things on that Guesthouse, but could not really. Everything is perfectly fine there, starting from its lovely and so helpfull staff. Rooms à shared toilets/bathrooms are clean and generally OK, with hot and good showers & quiet OK beds (hard to ask for more in a dorm). The breakfast is just AWESOME. I did not test the restaurant because prefer to eat outside, but they also left me prepare my own dinners some times. Really the best place to stay in Vang Vieng.
Clean and comfortable”
After reading many reviews from hostels in Vang Vieng, I think this is the best place if you want a relatively quiet hostel, but where you can still meet people. Pros: • Clean (I saw them cleaning often and I sometimes even walked barefeet to the toilet) • Comfortable bed (although strange that my feet could touch my neighbours head, but that could be solved by me turning around what I did not do because I was already used to it when he came). • Breakfast was good (noodles, egg with fruit or just fruits, all with as much free salad and baguette slices as you want). You could use the oven to make the break crispy! • Staff was friendly, but not very interested compared to places where I went before. Did their jobs. • Walking distance to everything else was not bad, because the city is small. But people I met always said goodbye around their hostel when I still had to walk 5 to 10 minutes to mine. Cons: • After getting back my laundry, I had clothes from other people in my bag. I do not remember what I put in so maybe someone who did not look took my stuff as well without me knowing now. • I booked a minivan this morning in an office what was 10 minutes walking. I packed my bag so that it wss hard to walk a lot with it, but they would pick me up at 10 am or later. When I checked out at a few minutes before 10, the receptionist told me that I had to go to the office where I booked, because they already came 3 times to pick me up??? They knew my name, room and bed number so not sure why the receptionist not tried to find me when the pick up arrived way early. Not sure whether he had the chance to ask the driver who should step in, but since my backpack was as good as ready at my bed he could know it was me. So no fault, just a lack of service in my eyes, which made this a 3 star instead of 4 star. • No fun thing to meet people easily, like a pool table or table football. Would have made this hostel perfect! • Airconditioning / fan system made me sick every morning. Aft
Authentic clean mellow hostel”
I stayed 9 days at Army Barracks. The hosts are very kind and authentic. Over time they made me feel appart of the family. Comfortable beds. nice breakfast with 6 choice to varry. hottest shower i had in SE Asia. Free whisky for the party people! it is located about 10-15 min walk from the madness which if you want a more chill laydback vibe is grreat. not a party hostel but good vibes at night to get started. i was sad to leave and recommend this hostel great price/quality ratio! A+
Good place to stay and enjoy Vietnamese food”
The host is super nice. We can order Vietnamese food, especially hot pot with beef. They can support you to book tour as well as the bus ticket. Strongly recommend when visiting Vang Vieng
Best hostel? ”
Army barracks is pretty good. The army theme is limited to camo print bedsheets which I found amusing. Rooms arn’t as busy as other hostels so more chance to sleep. Really clean, fair breakfast. Coffee always runs out but you cant have everything. If looking for a hostel in VV which isn’t a wild youth club, this is the one.
Excellent for me”
Strong point: The bedroom with pleasent sunshine and nature from window, friendly staff and delicious free breakfast Weakpoint: Nothing for me. Thanks to Army Barracks, I took a comfortable and peaceful trip. I wanna use this guest house next time again.
Very nice and accommodating ”
The staff here is very nice and helpful. I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely stay here again if back in Vang Vieng
Very friendly staff”
I would really recommend this place! I forgot my bag in the bus to Luang Prabang and the staff helped me to find it and send it from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang with another driver. so helpful!! About the hostel, it is very simple but according to the price you pay. Beds are old but breakfast is very good! Nice atmosphere
Army Barracks was a great stay for us -- we stayed in a private/double room and the bed was comfortable, shower was hot, and the air-conditioning was strong! The sheets were a strange material...somewhat vinyl feeling...but for a short stay it was no problem. Good location in the city, a short walk to everything.
Nice basic hostel, Pan is great guy”
The hostel is basic, it’s indeed like an army barrack, but it’s reasonably clean with spacious rooms. Reasonably quiet, not many backpackers while I was there. The dorm room only has 4 single beds while it’s 30sqm. Breakfast is ok while simple like other hostels. The receptionist/tourist information/booking agent/problem solver, named Pan is most friendly and helpful with always a smile. He is there 24/7. Flexible. Thank you Pan!! I recommend to stay here.
Did not stay there”
Got into Vang Vieng earlier than expected and passing the place I decided not to stay in Vang Vieng at all. Run down city, dusty like desert Sahara, ripped open road and terrible stench of sewers. This city has issues - seriously. For that reason I drove onto Luang Prabang and might not stay in Vang Vieng again until they clean up that horrible mess all over the place!
Really Cheap Hostel with free breakfast”
+ Price for private double room only 10 Euro per night including basic breakfast + Near the city center, walking only 2-5 minutes + Free drinks at the evening + good hostel flair - It's really loud in the night through drunken guests - Price for Tours, Motorbikes and Transport is more expensive as in every other shop in town - Staff not so friendly, explain only basic things
Nice Hostel with Free Breakfast”
Had a comfortable stay for 3 nights. Located on the main road and very close to the walking streets for the night market. We booked a double room with private bathroom, and also got a small balcony as we had the end room. The room was clean enough and had A/C and fan, not much else included. The blanket on the bed in a bit small but other than that can't complain. Breakfast was a nice addition as there were plenty of options. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially they helped us to book our bus to Vientiane . Had to pay at hotel, but they have the option to pay by card (3% fee added) if required. Internet was ok, though was a little slow at times.
Very basic, you get what you paid for. Booking tours was done efficiently for me. Big common space area to chill and eat. Appreciated the breakfast. In the dorm room, the beds are a bit too close together but there were no bunks so atleast you're your own. The only downside was that the water got shut down for us for a while. No showers, toilets, sink, etc. There were a lot of angry people but I felt bad for the staff who were trying their best to deal with it. I didn't spend that much time at the hostel anyway being out and about.
The room smelled like mold, had a big puddle of water under the bed, and we found a baby bed bug on the mattress and some crawling up the wall. Left immediatly and stayed in a much better located and cleaner guesthouse (Maylay- highly recommend!). The manager was really nice about it and gave us a full refund but I would check the beds with a fine toothed comb before staying here.
Great place to stay - fantastic food.”
This is a new place in Town, only open for a couple of months but I highly recommend it. When we checked in we asked for a different room as our room had no window (room was fine though) Tommy happily changed our room to a much nicer one with balcony for no extra cost. The food here is EXCELLENT, the best we have had in Laos. The friendly family who ru the place are from Vietnam and there are lots of Laos, Vietnam and western food options at good value. Breakfast is delicious too. They booked our bus tickets for onward travel with no problem. I would stay here again for sure.
The private room had no window at all, which was okay for us, but we didn’t know prior to arrival as it was not indicated anywhere on Agoda. The bed was comfy (memory foam mattress) but the AC was very very loud and leaky (water would drip on the floor until we turn it off). We had small ants in the bathroom and found a cockroach in the room, so cleanliness could have been better. Breakfast was little and simple. You get free salad and cucumbers with the breakfast but they are full of flies. The tours in the street were much cheaper than the ones sold by the hostel. Overall, it was an okay stay. Very close to night market.
