artha guesthouse is what i call "home away from home" in phuket. it is just a 10 min walk to patong beach and the bus terminal, and 15 min walk to jungceylon shopping centre, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the noisy tourist hotspots where you can sleep in peace (except for the occasional shaking of the building when a heavy vehicle passes by). overall, traffic is relatively light and there are some cheap and good eateries around the vincinity. convenient stores and laundry shops are all within easy reach. malley the owner and his lovely thai wife are warm, friendly and helpful hosts and his bar at the ground floor serves cheap alcohols to guests who are soccer fans watching matches on the big screen. there are 6 guest rooms altogether and if you are allocated room 5 or 6, you have to walk up 3 stories to reach it. but the rooms are considered spacious for a guest house standard and all the basic necessities are there, including a safe deposit box.

Patong, overcrowded beaches and a party place”

The best thing about Arthas Guesthouse is Mally the owner and his family. He was a great help for everything; getting you around the city and the best deals for excursions, things to do & where to go. The hotel is well situated just faraway from the crowds but close enough to walk or short taxi ride to the centre. One thing about Patong that you should all know is that it is overcrowded by tourists. If you are looking for a nice quit place this is not it. The beaches are lined up chair to chair, parasol to parasol that you have to rent. The city wakes up around 5 pm then parties until early morning. We had planned to stay on Phuket for a week and cut it short after 3 days and headed to the island of Koh Lanta; night and day difference.

Best value in Patong”

I came to Artha planning on staying 1 night. Now I´ve been here a week. Good location, with walking distance to both the beach and the city centre. Big clean and nice rooms, with loads of tv-channels and wifi. So the rooms and the place is great for the price, excellent value. But that is before I´ve talked about the Service. Mally, the owner, is a one of a kind guy. I´ve been travelling for 8 months now, all around the world, and Mally is the best host this far. Just a great guy with a lot of heart. He´ll book all the tours and tickets for you, without charging a dime for it. That means you´ll get more than 50 % discount on several tours and tickets compared to other places. Whatever you need, he´s there to help. So do not buy anything on the way back from the airport!! Great guesthouse, superb host, enjoyed my stay and will be coming back! Thanks Mally

Enjoyable stay & arrangement”

My friend & I traveled from 14-18 Nov for the first time to Phuket. The room conditions was better than what we expected. Clean room, clean toilet, big comfy bed, ac, hot shower, safety box, mini fridge, TV & towels. Free wifi available too, but if the connection is wonky there is another free wifi from the shop next door. The convenient mart is less than 1 min walk on the left side of the guesthouse. For thai local cuisine, the stall on the right side of it is HIGHLY recommended, especially the tomyam (spicy). Distance from Patong beach was bout 10-15 mins (depend on ur speed of walking), Bangla rd bout 25mins with all the sight seeing journey to there. There are few stalls selling local food and it not hard to find as u can see the queue (mainly tourist) and it delicious too. It is SAFE to walk from Bangla rd or anywhere back to the guesthouse even at night (3am & tipsy) tho it abit quiet. If u r looking for a place less noise, this would be suitable though there is Karaoke or Live Band right opposite the place, still better than nearby Bangla rd. Mally help us to book our tours for 3 days and it was cheaper than printed on the brochure. He arranged our transportation back to airport as well. Will be back!

Budget Hotels Don't Get Any Better”

I stayed at this guesthouse in February 2013 with my 20-month-old son. This guesthouse is a four-storey building with a bar (Mally's Bar) dedicated to Manchester United on the ground floor, then 2 rooms on each of the subsequent 3 floors. As I was travelling with an infant, Mally suggested I stayed on the upper floor away from the main street (room 5) to try to lessen the impact of the nightlife below. Although it was definitely noisy, it was so constant that it didn't really affect us. As for the room, the price was definitely in the budget bracket so I was really surprised at how big the en-suite rooms were. The bed was a massive double and really comfortable. There's a TV in the room with loads of channels and a wi-fi router in each floor so even up on the 3rd floor getting a signal was no problem. AC, fridge and room safe all did the job they are supposed to. There are no other facilities which I suppose keeps the price down. The British-Thai couple that run the place are brilliant. They couldn't do enough for us when my son got a tummy bug, and during our 9-day stay, I saw them sort out loads of trips and taxis for people that wanted it and let other guests get on with their own thing is that's what they wanted. In other words, there's no 'selling' going on but they know what the discounts on trips and tours should be, and the proper taxi prices and they'll make sure you get it. The bar is quiet during the day and even at night it never get's particularly raucous(or full). Most of the people in drinking are British ex-pats and Mally's mates who have come in for a drink and a chat and maybe to watch some football if it is on. It's definitely not a party pub, and there is no food available. There are restaurants all around, a cafe just behind the guesthouse (for coffee and danish pastries int the morning), the beach is more than 10 but less than 15 minutes away and 200 baht by taxi/tuk-tuk. (everywhere in Patong is 200 baht!). Highly recommended!

despite the number of stars i gave artha guesthouse, i was very pleased with my stay. i want to be clear, i did not pick this establishment for its facilities. this is not a five star resort and so it has been accordingly evaluated. to be completely honest, the furniture is a bit worn, and our sink was cracked. these mattered very little to us. we chose artha guesthouse because the service is incredible. we spoke with the owner , prior to our arrival about booking a few day excursions. as soon as we got there, he let us know he had already set up and appointment with the travel agency and they would pick us up in 15 minutes. given the time we were there, songkran, others had told us there was no way we would be able to book these trips. the travel agent mally sent us to was able to book every trip we wanted, all at half the price listed elsewhere. every day we returned, mally would be there to ask about our day. he was also able to recommend places to eat and shop. i would recommend artha guesthouse to others in a similar position: first time travelers to phuket who want a very active trip.

For a solo traveller who's looking for a comfort of a hotel at a guesthouse or dormitory price, this place is very ideal. For its price, which is almost of the same price as shared-room dormitories, this is really worth it. Although it's not on the main street where all the hustles of Patong take place, it's not really a big deal as it is just 15-minute walk to Patong Beach, 20-30 minute walk to Bangla Road (the party epicentre) and Jungceylon Mall. The host, who was so warm and jovial, was kind enough to assist me with almost everything that I needed especially the motorbike, which was very helpful indeed in touring the island. I'd definitely come back and stay here again.

Strategic location, excellent hosts, and value for money, what more can you ask for? Around 15 mins walk from the beach, and within accesible distance to anything Patong has to offer, this guesthouse is truly fantastic. For a reasonable price, you get a huge clean room with balcony, comfy bed, and excellent service. Oh! And Mally, the owner, is like the genie of Patong. He makes everything easier, from tours, transfers, or just someone to hang out with at his cozy bar downstairs.

There are lots to say about this guesthouse. The owner is the best guy you could ever come across, easy going, talkative, helpful and friendly. He was trying all that he can to get you have a great vacation meanwhile save your money. The room was huge compare to what we have stayed in Phi Phi Island, and the cost was only less than half. The bar in the guesthouse lobby was another attraction for sports lovers, there are signed shirts and posters of Man Utd, you can consider it as a little Old Trafford Museum. This is the place I will spend all my Patong times, there is no doublt that I will come back and stay again in the near future. Thank you Mally, you made my day!

I have spent about 2 years or more in Thailand over the last decade in many hotels and guest houses and I can honestly say this stay has been 1 of my favourites. Its perfect for budget travellers!!! The rooms are a little dated but make up for it in size and cleanliness! The locality is ideal…in one direction you have Jungceylon, the biggest shopping mall in phuket only minutes away, and that is opposite the infamous Bangla rd, which leads to the most popular beach in Patong In the other direction malin plaza is only minutes away and you are already on the rd that leads to kata and karon beach., shooting range, go karting, elephant trekking, and tiger kingdom. There is local family mart almost next door, a string of cheap thai restaurants, bars, opposite and in both directions. There is tax rank directly across the rd for those who don’t ride scooters. And for those who come often this guest house is at the bottom on nanai 8, so again easy access to all on nanai rd. The hosts Mally and Ae are extremely hospitable, and drinking at their bar is like a family party every night. Often full of rugulars! They have all the sports channels you need in the bar and several movie channels in the room, not just the usual 1. They say don’t judge a book by its cover…or appearances can be deceptive…its certainly true about this place. Bob Farrar (West Yorksire, England)

Comfortable room, staff very friendly and helpful”

This really is like a home away from home, we felt at ease right from the start which is really saying something as we have stayed at numerous places over many trips to Patong. Mally and his wife are very good at what they do and are very helpful and caring. There are some stairs, so if you have problems with them it is something to keep in mind. It is a 20 min walk to Jungceloyn shopping centre and another 5 or 10 to Bangla Rd but its an easy walk or 200 Baht set fee for a tuk-tuk anywhere in Patong Beach. We will definitely be back.

Massive room, best possible service ”

We had booked to stay here for two nights but within the first day/night of check in we changed our booking to stay a week!! The location is perfect, you are close enough to all the patong has to offer, beach and nightlife but far enough away to get a good night sleep. Mally (owner) is so helpful. He arranged day trips for us and also our trip to phi phi. He gives you great places to eat and drink. I couldnt recommend this place highly enough!

Great room for the price, easy access to the beach & minibuses to local attractions/airport, hassle-free check-in&out. Great advice on local tours, and booking was done in a jiffy. It seems that the hotel owner and the guests have strong passion in football. Would be a nice place to chill and enjoy the game.
