Arundel House Hotel is a really nice and pleasant hotel to stay in Cambridge. It is not far from Cambridge town - a pleasant 10 mins walk and yet has all the good facilities for a traveler’s comfort. The restaurant is excellent!
If you look for a convenient location you may want to consider staying in this hotel.”
Small and very dated rooms which urgently require some renovation. The only positive about the hotel is the location close to the centre of Cambridge
Comfortable Place to Stay in Cambridge ”
My husband and I stayed here while visiting Cambridge. The location is very nice! It is right next to a beautiful park. The decoration and building seemed old-fashioned, but it was nice. I liked that at breakfast, you could choose the free continental breakfast or pay more for a cooked English breakfast. Also, the tea and coffee were good, as well as the jams. The only negative comment would be that there was no air-conditioning unit in my room, but luckily the summer weather was unseasonably cool, so it wasn't a big problem for us. Overall, we had a lovely stay and would stay there again.
Charming but noisy”
My room was charming but I couldn't sleep because of cars and busses on the street and noise in the roof. Internet was broken for the whole stay (4 nights) which is unseen and quite disruptive. The bathroom was moldy, probably due to the age of this venerable building. One receptionist (guy with earrings) was extremely competent and helpful; another one (woman of indian extraction) was clearly not up to the job (although kind and full of good will). Not a totally unpleasant experience in the end, but I wouldn't go back there.
Too much in small print.”
We were there for 1 night .....I assumed there was free parking but didn’t see all the exclusions until I got to the hotel car park. Also, I assumed breakfast would be a choice, including cooked. I didn’t see the bit that said Continental breakfast! Dim lights in room, suitable for watching TV.... had to bring my chair over to entrance area of room which was the only part of room bright enough to read. Ow nice clean decent sized room.
Pretty good overall...”
If you want a not unreasonable deal in a pretty faultless location it's well worth considering. The quirkiness of the building might not appeal to everyone. I'd said best suits reasonably fit and agile travellers.
The staff were very helpful, the room and bed confortable and the meals were well prepared. The addition of cold meats to the Continental breakfast would be welcome. The situation by the river and close to the historic centre is excellent. Sadly there is no direct bus servive to the railway station, I thoroughly recomment this hotel.
Live overseas & have been using this hotel for many years now when we visit our family, great location, great views of the river & excellent parking facilities. Double / King Size beds are very small though, which is a bit off putting for us. We often treat family / friends to breakfast or meals at the hotel during our stay & we've held family events there. On this occasion treated our elderly mother to breakfast & arrived 5-15 mins before the finishing time (as had to pick her up from her nursing home in Cambridge) & it was quite obvious that the staff were not happy & sadly not as accommodating as usual. However, the breakfast did go ahead & it was as delicious as always. We will definitely stay again, but just wish they would invest in some larger beds. See you next year.
Practical central location”
My room was clean if a bit outdated and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel had all the standard facilities and was well maintained. I did request an early check in that seemed to have been forgotten as no one got in touch with me to confirm or deny it beforehand and my room was only available at the standard time.
Enjoyed my stay in Arundel while visiting my son in Cambridge.”
The hotel is located at the river Cam with beautiful green pieces in front of it. A real pleasure to walk out in the morning and enjoy this nice city. The hotel is a 10-15 minutes walk from the city center and main colleges. I would recommend the hotel to visitors who seek for peaceful environment close to the main sights of the city.
I traveled with a group of 2, and resided in a Family Room. We had made a prior request for early check-in (because of our flight arrival in the morning) as well as a request for a room on the lower floor. We were aware that the requests could not be guaranteed. However, very much to our surprise, the Staff at Arundel accommodated our requests and allowed us to check-in at about 10 in the morning and gave us a lovely room on the lower floor at the reception level. The room (No. 108) was very clean and neat, and importantly, comfortable - just like a home away from home, and the Staff was warm and friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel at home. We have nothing but praise for Arundel and will certainly recommend Arundel to those traveling to Cambridge, London. On my part, I will surely return to Arundel whenever I visit Cambridge. Arundel - A 5 Star Hotel with a 5 Star Staff !!! Best Regards to Arundel !
From the moment we approached the hotel we were delighted. The Christmas lights were very welcoming, as were the staff. The only problem I had were the four flights of stairs up to the room, but as I had not mentioned a bad knee on booking this was no fault of the hotel. The room once we got up there was spacious& had great views on two sides....Cambridge! Disappointed with no shower but lovely deep bath& each of the bed annexes had a vanity unit . I think it must have been a family suite& there were only two of us ... Nice to spread out! Will definately be returning.Thankyou.
Perfect for access to town centre”
This is an ideally placed hotel for access to the town centre via a short walk across Jesus Green, with parking, and good food available from the restaurant or more informally in the conservatory. Accommodation is no more than 3 star though the lounge and other facilities are generously proportioned. However we didn't come for the size of the room, but for a convenient location to attend an event, and this certainly fitted the bill. We were particularly impressd by the fact that one of our party, who had to leave at 0530am, was able to have the full continental breakfast before departure, although this was 2 hours before the published time for the start of breakfast.
very pleasant, professional with a cosy character”
it was great, pleasant, feeling as if you are in a small hotel, although it is big, always willing to give you the maximum of all the possibilities, it was clean, all necessary utilities. you do not have more wishes than what they give you. it means that just 'everything' a person wants in holidays is there. i would always like a hotel like this and specifically because you do not feel you are in a big business place
Don't expect eye contact”
I stayed just one night, in a single room. This is an English hotel so single room means very small. Still, it was modern and clean and even though the sink was in the bedroom whilst the toilet and shower were in a separate room, that was fine. I stay in a lot of hotels in the Far East and Middle East and that spoils me: in those places, levels of service are usually very high. In this case, I was party to two examples of poor service. I expect hotel staff to greet me: the waiter at breakfast greeted me but he was clearly stressed or in a great hurry. He found me a table and then left. I realised later that there was a menu that told me about the cooked breakfast option ... he had hidden it under the mat that was under the coffee pot. I didn't want a cooked breakfast but I realised it was an option when another guest arrived who got a lot of attention, was offered the cooked breakfast and was generally made a fuss of. Maybe he is a frequent visitor there. At check out, the receptionist didn't flinch when I arrived at the desk: she carried on with her task. I said good morning, can I check out, please? No eye contact and she responded in the way that someone with a personal problem responds. Quiet, looking down at the floor. I was processed in silence and as I said goodbye, I was left with silence. Did I feel valued at this hotel? No, I am afraid I didn't.
Small room but good location”
The hotel is near city center. You could reach 2 shopping centers within walking distance. There are also many restaurants nearby. Cambridge University is also within reach. However, the room is extremely small. A single bed with some walking space + a washroom is that all you get. The room I got was facing other buildings. My friends got better rooms where they're facing the river.
Rooms noisy customer service poor parking fees exorbitant when booking via agoda or other online booking sites. location is not central as advertised and free breakfast is continental only and many customers only were told this at the hotel.
Some of their staff, one young woman in particular, was extremely nasty and even bordering on discriminate people racially due to some kind of psychological problem. I certainly will not recommend an awful hotel like this one to any one, oriental travelers in particular. I'd also recommend that you take this black-list this hotel until some of their staff make fundamental changes to their behaviours towards guests.
The shower can only be described as filthy in the room I stayed in. Disgraceful. The road noise was constant and very loud. Booking through a third party website resulted in extra costs for car parking and breakfast which is not made clear on booking. The whole hotel looked tired and dated with threadbare carpets and poor decoration
Do I need to stay at this hotel ?”
The hotel is now charging for parking overnight at a ridiculous rate and should you stay after 11.00am you are charge more per hour. Should you book via a website, oh my gosh ! ! ! Management are asleep. With problems in the room involving the shower/ television and channels I doubt I will be coming back.
